Default Do spells always hit the chest armor piece?

Hello,

I recall reading this info somewhere, but didn't find a source on the wiki. I have the 20 armor vs elemental in all pieces of my armor currently so I'm wondering if I can upgrade other pieces with survivor or stonefist instead. Does anyone know?

I remember having seen that somewhere too, but it seems it was from an unreliable source as I recall though, so I did not really take it to heart...I'm curious to know too, though since you saw the same maybe there is some truth to it? =/

Spells do NOT always hit the chest; however the vast majority do.

Key example: [Fire Storm] usually hits the head. There's a note about it in this:

I'm afraid I can't help with some others. There are ones that you would think should work that way, such as anything else falling from the sky ([Meteor], [Meteor Shower]), and other ones you should think should hit feet ([Unsteady Ground], [Earthquake]), but TBH I have no idea if these actually work that way, and I highly doubt that they do.

Oh, another thing that should theoretically always hit the head: [Temple Strike]. This is actually something that would be nice to look into.

The Mind spells always hit the head, and I can guarantee that.

I beleive that armour ignoring spells hit any piece of armour.

Any armor affected damage will hit armor pieces in the same normal distribution as all other sources of damage. The only circumstance I haven't tested is when shooting bows from a higher elevation (which supposedly would hit head more often).

There used to be some bugs with this, for example most spells could not hit the hands armor, but they were all fixed. Yes, this means traps can smack you in the face and the 20 foot tall giant will hit you in the feet 1/8th of the time.

lol, you realize the fact that it ignores armor means it ... ignores armor right?

BS, take off your helm, walk outside copperhammer mines and let the ice imps hit you with mind freeze. Same % chance to hit each armor piece as everything else.

I will test firestorm, but the first part of your post is pure BS, so I have little confidence in the second part. Remember any idiot can edit wiki.
Edit: Just tested on Renegade elementalists South of Fort Ranik. Firestorm hit my head 10 times out of 100. Fixed wiki.

There have been many rumors about directed magic vs random magic.

For example it was once generally thought that Air magic targeted the Head, while Fire targeted Chest/Arms and Earth the Feet/Legs.

However Monk spells, Necro spells and Mesmer spells were all found to hit random armor locations, though for most of those its armor ignoring there are a few that are effected by armor and were shown, I forget by whom, to hit random peices of armor.

Hey Meth - just for clarification; how do you test which part is being hit?

Take off the piece of armor you want to test, then get hit multiple times. When you take 2.5-5x damage, you got hit in the area without armor. Testing Fire storm, I counted 90 times I took -1 damage from firestorm and 10 times I took -6.

Fair enough; I admit that far too often I take the wiki's word as golden. I remembered seeing that about a month back so that's what I went off of, and certainly didn't test it because I'm not near that bored

An acknowledged mistake, well tested, and very useful to know.
