Default Salvaging Obsidian Armor...

Well, this probably doesn't count as a starter question, but I couldn't think of a better place to put it. My question is to anyone who has salvaged FoW armor to make another set; how much gets lost in the salvage? Or is it possible to just salvage the basic mats instead of the ectos/shards? Just want to know if it's feasable to get enough or near to enough mats to get a different set.

You'll get a 33% chance of getting the rare materials back from a salvage.

And adding to what the other guy said, you don't get your full 100+ ectos, if you're lucky enough to get ectos at all.

About 6 months ago I salvaged two sets of FoW that were necro + monk armor that, at the time, didn't need shards as they were +energy armors.

From one set I got 11 shards total.
From the other I got about 6 shards and 5-7 ectos.
(Yes, armor that wasn't made with shards... got me some shards \o_O/)

There's a few threads in search about this. Some have helpful info, some have "OMG Y U SALVAGE NOOB?" so um. yeah.

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...si dian+armor is one such thread that came up.

Um, I don't think it says anywhere that this forum is only for "starter questions".... I could be wrong, but "basic" is not the same as "starter".

It's only worth it if you're deleting the character.

It's not worth it imo. It's better to have an obsidian armor on an inactive char than to salvage it and destroy it. Salvaging will not yield much, so you will need to pay/farm a lot of ecto's/shards anyways.
