Solo tournaments are hero battle tournaments. Therefore, to enter you just go to the hero battle isle during the 1 hour before the tournament starts. Because the solo tournaments are hero battles, you need to have Nightfall (or possibly just EotN?) to see the hero battle zone. If you haven't spent the 1000 balthazar faction to buy a tournament token before, talk to tolkano (they should have him stationed right near where you spawn) do so now.

Once you have your tournament token (for gvg, you'll need 5), just hit enter battle. It will ask you what type you want, and one of the selection should be "register for 1v1 tournament" or something like that. Afterward, there should be a box with a timer for when the tournament starts. All you have to do after that is be in the hero battle isle when the timer runs out and hit the enter mission button after it tells you who your opponent is.

good luck.
