Sapphires can technically drop from "any" creature (unconfirmed). Only one I have ever seen drop as you described was from a Warden during the Arborstone Mission. The Drop Rate is exceptionally low, and most players will likely never see one drop.

Gemstones are like dyes, then can be dropped by practically anything. Low droprates though.

It's not that rare ^^

It's generally known it happens, but like black dye some people get loads - some get none

i dont know if im just lucky or if anyone has had a similar experience...but farming elementals outside Sardelac i get sapphs/rubys more often than i should. Anyone else seeing this in that area? and yes Wardens have been known to drop them on rare occasions

Everything can drop them, but something do seem to have higher droprates - Djinn and other elementals are confirmed to have a higher droprate iirc. I believe smites might also have a better rate, but thats just my opinion.

I got a Ruby from a Fire Imp during the mission where you meet Oink. I think that is a little more common than the Sapphire though.

According to the WIKI anything does NOT drop them. It is not like Black Dye at all other than it is a "rare drop". Only certain foes will drop the Emeralds and you killed one of them that did.

Please Check the WIKI. It has been around for a long time now and is a great resource.

That said Rare is right. I have been playing for 2 years and got my first one as a drop last night killing the Hulking stones solo in Hard Mode with my war trying to get enough granite to buy the destroyer weapons for my hall - Account Based WOOT!!! They do not heal themselves. The one boss does but with the sniper support and a timely headbutt killing it is not that hard.

After it dropped I looked on the wiki to see what the heck it was used for. Vambian armor is the only thing that came up. I checked the Rare Mats and it is worth 3,800 Gold! Nice little drop!

A stack of them would be oh so pretty....

Hmmm I have also had them drop (Ruby) from the mantids on shing je 2 in about the last month
also amber a few times.
I know one of my chars gets lots of Charcoal drops from fire imps outside Lions arch
but any other char on same account don't see the same drop rate. lol

Anything can drop them, higher rates for elementals, and you can salvage them from Iridescent aegis, Jeweled daggers, and sapphire djinn essences. You can also get them from UW/FoW end chests, and hidden treasures in dungeons.

Please read my post above. Not every creature drops them in Hard Mode.

Check the wiki

There's a WIDE variety of creatures that can drop them, spread around all or almost all regions of the game, some have better chances than others, but the VAST MAJORITY of all mobs CANNOT drop them at all.

Wikis are a pretty bad source of information about drops, I've seen a lot of info which is completely wrong out there and the amounts of information regarding drops that is missing make them very unreliable.

The conventional wisdom regarding rubies and sapphires is that they can drop from any enemy who also drops other materials. It doesn't matter if it's charcoal or plant fibers; as long as they drop something, you might get a ruby.

I've gotten rubies and sapphires from virtually everything in the game...elementals or not. Wiki isn't 100% truth.
