Default Ratio of actual people playing to forum posters?

Has anyone ever been able to correlate the amount of people playing, based upon how many people visit a forum related to said game?

No, it's impossible. These sort of questions can't be answered. Try again.

I asked an honest question, that you can't answer, so that makes it a bad question?

Never said it was a bad question. You just can't expect a precise answer.

Only an admin would know how many people visit this forum. Even then they'd have to filter out all the multiple accounts, some of which could be bogus. Then we'd have to figure out how many people actually know about Guru. Some people don't even register accounts and only lurk in the forums. We'd also have to find out how many people are playing GW and exclude all duplicate accounts. We'd also have to figure out how many forum/in-game accounts are still active. The variables are endless. You can see why I think a question like yours is not worth asking.

The only correlation can be made through the use of historical data of the frequency of registering members and posts, during the time when Anet were still churning out campaigns (since there were still things to discuss and discover), whilst being compared to the activity now when everything has been discovered in GW.

But that's just common sense.

It will never be accurate, registering to a forum/guru has never been a compulsory requirement and you can view threads without registering. That imo is the most important factor and why it will never be accurate.

Not to mention the number of Guru accounts made by people who don't play. The majority of the posts you see are made by people who play, or who did play. But there are the 'bots' and gold sellers, etc. that will make an account and post links to websites to sell things or hack people. Those accounts get banned pretty quick, but they exist. Same thing for GW accounts. People make them and never use them, get them perma banned, stolen, or lose their ability to connect. No way to even come close to knowing how many GW accounts exist, much less how many of those people use a specific forum. And there are many forums that are available, some for public use, some for guild/alliance, and some for $$. I myself use several forums, and only post on about 25% of those.

We can know how many people visit the site, but we can't really know how many actually play. Short of asking them all. Lol.

On this forum? I'd give a rough estimate that 75% of the GURU population actually plays anymore. The 25% that dosen't are the unhappy ones who come here to bitch and moan about the game they no longer play, which is quite funny.

95% of all statistics are made up. See what I just did? I just made that up. Easy.

I didn't read the question as how many forum posters still play, but if the total number of players can be estimated by the number of people posting. The short answer would be no. You could take gross sales of the game and guestimate. Anet do have hours played stats that they aren't likely to release.

To answer your question, I don't think this forum is indicative of the number of players or the current attitudes. Sadly, this forum seems to be infected with disgruntled griefers. Which, as Bob pointed out, is likely the people who don't play but still moan for some unknowable reason. I'd say that people who don't post are unlikely to keep visiting the site.

I find this forum is still fairly PvP centric. I'm not saying the forum doesn't cater to PvE, just that most posters seem to be PvPers. I have no stats to back this up, but I'd say 3/4 of GW payers are PvEers.

If there is a poll system here you could just make a poll and it could give you an estimate.

I don't see that as a stupid question thats how they make all polls or medical studies or whatever. You don't need everyone to answer just a decent amount and then consider margin for error.

Really not that hard.

Some of the answers to this topic are funny, you say the question is worthless and answer with useless responses, way to look like an ass.

in short NO

but i'm sure the above average player will visit some forum and if not Guru then a fan-made-guild page or the PVX website..

IMO it's 5:1 or higher.

No it wouldn't. That would tell you the proportion of people on Guru who play to the people who don't. The question being asked is number of people on Guru to how many in total (not just on Guru) play GW itself. For a Guru poll to work, you'd need to get a good sample of people who actually play GW independently of Guru.
