Default Skipping the Factions Campaign?

I'm nearing the end of Prophecies and was trying to decide which campaign to hit up next (Factions or Nightfall). I played through Factions on a separate account a while back on a roleplaying character, but don't remember too much of it. I'm mainly playing this game for the PvE and story content, so that's what I've been trying to accomplish.

I'm trying out a Guild right now, and they say they're Kurzick. I've heard about these Factions, but picking a Faction and grinding reputation - is it really necessary?

You don't need to grind reputation. There are primary quest that requires 10k of a faction (the luxon requires 10k luxon, kurzick requires 10k kurick faction). There are a lot of side quests designed to get you this though so it's not like you're stuck doing the same thing to advance the plot.

Regarding picking a side, you sort of need to do it. Because titles require access to all the content, you are able to do both of the luxon and kurzick questlines, simultaneously if you really wanted to. There isn't anything in-game that permanently locks your account into one side or the other. When people say 'I'm a Luxon', they generally mean that is the side they prefer. The faction of your guild does not influence anything (though you won't be able to donate faction of the opposing faction).

Not so much picking a side, I meant picking a Faction in general. Do I need to go through Factions or could I just skip to Nightfall?

Campaigns are stand alone. There is no order to them and amount of completion of each is irrelevant. Even though you've saved the world once/twice, it's as if you're just any other person.

tl;dr, yes.

Yes, you can skip over factions and go straight to Nightfall. But, in the Chronology of the GW world, the events in factions occur before Nightfall. So if you're into the lore stuff, you should know that there are some elements of the Nightfall story-line that occur as a result of events that take place along the factions story-line.

If you like overpowered PVE skills it is!

I would go to Nightfall, grab a few hero's then invade Factions, but that's just me

Correction. You don't have to complete any campaigns. Just be level 10 and you can go.

Without spoiling the story line for you, it is difficult to explain why you should do Factions next. If you did finish it before, then starting to play might kick start your memory and you can move on to Nightfall before the end.

Do whatever you like. I remember enjoying Factions as a change of pace from Prophecies, mainly due to the environmental feel (landscapes, music, etc). You can get through Factions rather quickly compared to the other campaigns, as well.

Might be thinking of access to WiK stuff. You have to have one campaign finished for that I believe.

Factions: Short campaign but lots of fun. Only grinding needed is to get (10k I think) faction of your choice of Luxon or Kurzick to gain access to main city of that faction and go through that part of the storyline.

Nightfall: Heroes, Long campaign, lots of content (IMO) but having to have certain heroes to do some missions and grind different factions up was a pain and a turnoff IMO. And when you don't use a hero very much who ends up being required later on, it sucks bringing a level 7 along in a lvl 20 mission.

I'd say go with Factions first, then do Nightfall.

IMO ...

play Factions B4 nightfall. U will appreciate the Nighfall endgame more. Also, you will appreciate the elite "missions" in Factions which have normal mode environmental effects that aren't available in Nightfall normal mode elite "missions".

Additionally, Factions (Cantha) offers PvP competitive missions that PvE players can only access by advancing through the Factions campaign (These are actually FUN/SHORT matches. Although to be fair, the restarting timer debacle leaves a little to be desired.

+1 to this. If your playing for the storyline. You will want to do Factions before nf so that the End (edit: is it bad that I keep capitalizing End even when it's not used as a proper noun?) makes more sense.

You should probably check whether the guild you're trying out is one that's serious about Kurzick faction. Some guilds expect their members to grind faction regularly, and if it's one of those and you're not interested, then it might not be the best fit.
