Default Ghosts of Ascalon not for sale??

The other day I was in town and decided to buy the guildwars book from Waterstone's. But lo and behold they didn't have it!!!

So i asked why not and after about 20 mins of various typing on computer and phone calls to head office and to the US Publishers. They told me that due to unforseen circumstances they cannot sell the book in the UK until as no distributer will take it. Seemed a bit strange to me so i asked why not?, no answer was forthcoming from the US Publishers but Waterstone's have now had 8,000 orders/requests for this book.

So why is it not available in the UK? Is it available in the rest of Europe or even the world yet? I know it's available to buy on import but I am a bit old fashioned, yet again I digress. Does anyone have any information as to why it's not on sale in the UK and there is no set date(that I was told when asked) for it's release?(Yes it was supposed to be released on the 27/07/10 but wasn't due to these unforseen circumstances).

So any information about the why's and wherefore's would be much appreciated, thankyou.

I really do not know an answer to this question. I've actually never heard of this until now. I know you said "I'm old fashioned", but sometimes it's best to suck up your old habits and simply "get with the times" (on this one occasion, anyways) and buy it off eBay/<insert website here>.

Good luck.

Was out by the end of last year in the U.S. Amazon has it right now (just ordered it for my brother). I don't know why you can't get it in the UK.

Even in the US it was difficult to find sometimes. I know that Borders chain only sold it online and my local Barnes & Noble only ordered 5 copies.

Amazon.co.uk is carrying it http://www.amazon.co.uk/Guild-Wars-A...3394891&sr=1-1

I had a huge problem finding sellers that would acknowledge the book's existence in the UK on the day of release, let alone getting a copy. Amazon was quoting 1-2 weeks at the time and the rates to get it shipped from the US was painful so I just went and got the electronic version and read it on my pc.

As for UK retail alternatives, tried looking at WHSmith (I can't check this at the moment, seems they have net problems)? Amazon UK now seems to have a healthy supply as well.

I tried to buy a copy from WHSmiths when I was in town a couple of weeks ago. The staff had never heard of it and they couldn't find it on their computer using either "Guild Wars" or "Ghosts of Ascalon" as their search terms. I got mine from Amazon UK in the end.

End of last year? No it wasn't. Unless you work by some strange new calendar system where August is the start of the new year. It came out July 27th.

Some Borders carry it in the store. I recently found it at mine (though I had ordered it online).

Anyway, I know that it's available in the UK, because I have several UK friends that own the book. Online stores are probably your best bet.

Hopefully, their publisher will do better organizing the next book. I don't think they expected it to sell on a par with a sci-fi bestseller.

Thanks for the answers. Shame no one knows the reason why it's not available for retail sale in the UK, except online, but yeah seems the best route to getting it is from amazon(godawful useless company).
