  • Buy a rune from a trader
  • Then double-click the rune
  • Then click on the piece of armor you'd like to add it to.

Might be a good idea to check this out -http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Rune

Before you do that though, check out which runes work for your class specifically.

i wouldn't worry about runing until you have max armor rating.

I rune my lowlvl armor, but only with EITHER a insignia OR a rune on each armor peace, because so it's 100% sure that I get my runes back for my next armor. In lowlvl areas, the additional 25 HP (2 survivor insignias) help a lot (but they are rather expensive for new players).

If you can't afford a full armor, only upgrade the chest armor as it takes 37,5% of all hits. Also, upgrade your headpiece at least once (not for the armor, but for the inherent +1 modifier for 1 attribute)

In Factions and Nightfall you get max armor rather early - i wouldn't buy a non-max armor there. (except the headpiece)

Given the low cost of most Runes and Insignias (100g), there is no problem with fully equipping your armor. When it comes time to get new armor, just use an Expert Salvage kit to remove the expensive Runes/Insignias first and then remove the cheap Runes/insignias off any pieces that survived. (Or, in some cases, you could purchase a Perfect Salvage kit from someone).
