Default Costume as a gift

Is it possible to give someone a costume as a gift, without having to go on their account to buy it?

Nope, not possible. You still need to log-in with an account because the product gets added directly to it.

In the words of Terry Pratchett: Make it easy for people to give you money. GW could earn a few more euros from me if they allowed me to buy gifts for other people

Or get your friend one of those pre-paid Visa Cards. Gives them the money to buy the costumes themselves.

True, Spyder, but that takes all the romance out of it.

Giving money for someone else to buy their gift just isn't the same as giving them the gift yourself. Though it has the same result, it's really just awkward.

occasionally they have a contest where they give away the key codes for the costumes (won one myself)....but other than that there is no way of giving your code to someone else----

Yup, but then it wouldn't be a surprise anymore.^^
Anyways, thanks a lot for the replies. I wasn't expecting a yes, but just wanted to make sure.

Definitely agree with you there, but when it comes to the GW Store, sadly we cannot purchase for friends unless they trust us with their account info.

Default Sorry if I sound noobish...

...but have you tried contacting Anet directly, via email maybe, and asking if it's possible?

They might have the ability to generate a key and send it to your email, allowing you to forward it to your recipient.

Or maybe your email will be lost in the abyss. I dunno. Maybe worth a shot...?

No, costumes cannot be traded. Regretfully there is no way to make a gift unless you convince the person to leave you alone with their character selection screen. Still takes some of the surprise away.

I think they don't have this function because of concerns about credit card fraud. They most likely feel that they already have enough problems with hacked accounts without adding in people using someone else's credit card to purchase stuff for their account. I know that many websites won't ship items anywhere but the billing address when you use a Visa card.

Default I think my suggestion was misunderstood

I'm not talking about buying the COSTUME and trading it in-game.

I'm talking about emailing Anet saying "I would like to buy a costume for another player, I will send you credit card information if you will send me a transferrable unlock key." I'm pretty sure they're CAPABLE of this, even if they don't do it very often.

Then, when you get that unlock key, you simply pass the KEY along to the person to whom you want to give the costume. Then they apply it to their account to unlock the costume package.

Make sense?

People can use a pre-paid card on pretty much anything and sharing account information is risky. Honestly, I wouldn't go into a friend's account and use my credit card if I wanted to give them anything. I worry about red flags going up about the different credit card being used and the IP using it. There's nothing cool about potentially getting a friend banned because I wanted to ninja them a product. HAPPY BIRTHDAY... oh and you might wanna contact support about getting your account unbanned. Oops!

I recently gifted something to a friend on Steam and I have to wonder why NCSoft can't do something similar with their store. It was as simple as specifying that the item being purchased was intended as a gift at the checkout screen and selecting the recipient from my FL or putting in their e-mail. An e-mail is then sent out to that person to let them know that they received a gift and gave instructions on how to redeem it.

Maybe they will make some enhancements to the online store when GW2 is released. I don't really see them putting in the time or effort to make gifting an option at this stage of the game.

Ok, so I had an idea. A glorious idea.

Why not have an NCsoft gift card? A gift card for a specific company is much more specific and thus meaningful than a random prepaid visa card or something, because it's more personal and directly related to their interests.

For example, you can get a, say, Barnes & Noble gift card for a friend who loves books, or you could get an NCsoft gift card for a friend who likes Guild Wars.

Emailed gift cards are already in widespread use, so there is no need for them to print physical cards (which would be incredibly practical and, honestly, a dumb thing for them to waste resources on).

By using a gift card, no account or credit card information needs to be transferred. It would be just like buying a gift card for Victoria's Secret, or something.

Really, this seems like the most feasible way for a gifting system to work, because it is easy and flexible, requires only very minimal work for NCsoft to set up the system, and I'm sure it would raise a lot more funds for them to work on GW2.

Ailina, I like that. Sort of like buying credits, as you would do with a makeover pack, except the credits would be transferrable in real life.

Really, I don't understand why they wouldn't make it as easy as possible for people to give them real money...

I'd love it if it was possible that when buying a Costume, you can enter your friend's name in the gift field, and next time your friend logs in on that character he will have a present in their inventory (or it will show up there as soon as they sell an item if their inventory hapens to be full). Double click to open and to receive the Costume.^^

Having some way to purchase items from the in-game store for someone would be great.

Or their email address, and it sends them an email that says "You have received a gift - to redeem, go to 'add access keys' and enter this code". Something like that would be awesome, and I see no real reason why it can't be done.

I'm sure people would find a way to exploit a gift function for in-game gold trade some how... (selling codes... ect) this would also create scams.....probably there reasoning for not having a gift function.
