Over on another forum Gaile confimed that there was going to be charmable bears in release....I'm not sure if they will have one for next BWE though. Would be nice ... I hope the bears will get along better with the birds than my kitty did, she just wouldn't leave them alone no matter how far away they were.

I did? Man, I can't keep up with myself some days. I think I said I wasn't sure, and that there may be charmable bears. But hey, I'm still trying to convince you guys it was the Rapid Gound Hog Boss Monster, and no one's buying that line.

Either way, an extremely mean trick to play on all those hapless rangers who felt that perhaps ArenaNet set the bears interrupt cap at 100 and if they could just wait it out, maybe the next one would work...How cruel.

Too bad, I was thinking more of the Monty Python bunny than the bear. Its easy to tell which one would be more terrifying.

And no I did not try to charm it 100 times.

CAPYBARA!! OH MY GOD, THATS MY FAVORITE ANIMAL!!

They are the largest rodents in the world, they weigh up 75lbs.

They live near the water and are good swimmers since they have partially webbed feet.

But anyways that isn't a Capybara, it's to big. I think it's a bear.

does anybody think that the bear is overpowered compared to all the other pets and therefore may not be a petable animal for balance?

I'm wondering if you could charm the bear with help from a friend. There are skills that might help... Maybe a way to interrupt that interrupt.. I'm sure it's been tried from about 100 different angles by now though, and probably with no success.

Think about bringing a pet with that kind of interrupt into a pvp match? It would completely shut people down. Not exactly fair.

There are no 'charmable animals' in Seared Ascalon.

The types of monsters are:
Charr
Devourer
Trogs
Gargoyles
Stone Elementals

As you can see, they are not animals.

Edit: I saw that through the 'Creatures' section but when I was sifting through 'Areas' I came upon the explorable area Old Ascalon and there is ojne tameable creatue: The Moa Bird!!!

I'm starting to think the only real way to get a bear or standard wolf is with mesner skills and ranger skills combo...

Mesner power drain
and high ranger charm animal attributes...
Maybe best to try this with a party of mesner / rangers...

I got real close to charming it this way. I think I just needed to level up a little more to do it. I tried this at level 5, but didnt get a mesner to help me once I was level 8. seems mesners are kinda rare in the game.. everyone likes monks and warriors...

And yes this beta they listened to the people asking for pets in post searing that forgot to get them pre... lol so that was nice... They are all over Old Ascalon... and katrya too... But there are some nice high level lynx in the western regions to watch for too... Still looking for bear post searing. havent found any...

Yes it is possible in the Tomb of the Primevile King. I have a clan buddy that charmed someone elses cat. After the guy was killed.

Default bears

I think the bears would make an awesome pet. In this last BWE I can't remember where I was but I stumbled upon a big field of bears running around and they seem to be much more hostile than other "pet-ables." Since I'm not a ranger I don't have any pets, but I was wondering what the objective of all the black bears was. (if I remember correctly, when I pressed ctrl the bears showed up as hostile (red) "black bears").

The field you probably stumbled on with bears also had rock elementals ans is on your way to foibles fair/wizards folly... it's the entrance of wizard's folly. Yes, a bear pet would be an easy addition since they already have the graphic done, only need to include AI. I'm not a ranger, so I say let's see what the rangers of the game want.

If I were going to take a Pet with me anymore, I would love to be able to charm a Bear. Just because of it's overall strength advantage that you would assume a Bear would have, they would have to be extremely rare, nothing like with the Striders where you could just close your eyes, reach out, and grab two or three by the neck.
