ok, 1 more question: Does the anti-farming code relate to a singe character, or to the account. i.e., if I farm for a while with character X, then switch for hours/days of playing character Y, can I go back to X and have good drops again? Or do I need to spend time with X in other areas of the game to refresh drops for characer X's same farming spot? Hope that made sense.

at the ettin location after the settlement on this map:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/a...0&d=1139971510
are very very often just about 4-5.. its kinda faster to just kill the ones outside of beetleton
+ these bog scales at the settlement really suck =/ and they are quite often with the ettins..

Thanks for thread, I have been looking for this place, and getting annoyed by mergoyles for a couple of days now. Lots of great suggestions, but use what works...

Bah come on people drop the whole w/mo thing its just gay unless you are running or soloing thirsty. Want a great ettin build

eviscerate
disrupting chop
executioners strike
axe twist
penetrating blow
tigers fury
sprint
troll ungent

skills set
axe mastery=14 or above
beast mastery=11
wilderness survival= whatever you have left
strength= 4 or 5

if your skills are charged after droping one ettin you can drop the second one in about 6-8 strikes given that you land disrupting chop right on the end of his healing sig(there seems to be a sweet spot right at the end which gives an insane critical hit)

I do this with a necro and a minion army. It works pretty good if I can keep my minions alive. A half dozen Bone Fiends usually do the trick along with keeping my char away from the Ettins. I also approach from Lions Arch.

I then rezone at the back of the Ascalon settlement and kill the Lynx's wandering around the area to get a new minion army (albeit smaller) up. Or I get the Ettins to attack the guards outside the settlement and use them for minions.

The ettins outside beetleton drop all the runes and since they are lvl 15 they are easy to kill. Here is my guide:

EDIT Added another map for the second leg of the runs by the ascalon settlement in the north kryta province.

Step 1: You will need a high level warrior. My build is as follows::

I have recently been using the axe build listed below, only I use cyclone not flurry, it works great. Thanks to all who posted

Lvl 20 warrior/monk

Attribute distribution :
Healing prayers: 8
Swordsmanship: 12
Tactics: 12

Skill Set:
1:Healing Signet
2:"Charge" (an altranate running skill can be used)
3:Sever Artery
4:Gash
5:Galrath Slash
6:Final Thrust
7:Flurry
8:Mending

The reasons for skills are as follows:
:healing sig, to heal when you are very low when 3 or 4 ettins are bashing away at you.
:"charge", to run by the avicarra and mergoyles at the start.
:sever artery, to start an etting bleading
:gash, to do extra damage because of bleeding and lower health by 20%
:galrath slash, to do as much damage as possible
:final thrust, to finish each ettin off
:flurry, to build your adrenaline very fast
:mending, to keep your hp in the high numbers.

The strategy:
Start out at Beetleton and head out the east exit. put on mending right away and head up the hill towards the east. There should be 3 or 4 mergoyles on your left, and 3 or 4 on your right, and usally an aloe that pops up when you walk by. You should only need to agro the left group. you should be able to just run by without using your running skills (they usually do from 0-2 damage per hit to me). As you walk down the hill into the pass with cliff on both sides there will be two sets of avicara. One wild and one scout. The wilds will shatter enchantment, doing a little damage but nothing to worry about. You continue to walk untill just when you hit the second group of avicara, you then charge (or whatever runnning skill you have) and rush right by them into the clearing between yourself and the ettins. You then re-enchant with mending and feel free to use your healing sig to get back in business faster. Now its time for Ettins! You should only agro 2-3 at a time, 4 if all else fails. If you take 6 you are probably in trouble (although it may be doable, depending on your items and runes you have on). You should start out by hitting flurry and slicing away at one untill you have enough to sever artery, then you gash, then galrath slash, then gash again, then galrath slash again, untill you have them nearly dead, then use final thrust and put him down. If you don't need to use final thrust it is better because you then can keep your adrenaline. You should be using flurry periodically to keep your attack rate high and your adrenaline charged quickly. After you kill one you turn to the next and continue. When you have cleared one group feel free to recharge and regen. Then its on to the next. There should be 6-8 ettins right where you find them first, then go up the hill or around to the right to find more, there should be from 5-8 more ettins depending on your spawn.

Now the beautiful part is that the ettins almost always drop "Ettins Pauldrons" so therefor, whenever you would get a purple or gold, it is a rune. Which happens MUCH more frequently then I had suspected when I started doing this, I usually get a couple purples a run and a gold rune every 1-3 runs.

Now when you finish killing all the ettins, don't just zone back to beetletun and go again.... No no no, that is what some do and that just wastes time. What you do is go to the east and there will be a zone there (see my map below). Once you are in the next zone, zone back and there will be a whole new group of ettins just waiting for you, and this time you don't even have to run through other guys. You can start right at the ettins, do a whole run, then just run back, zone-zone, and you are ready again!

Here are the maps:

Here is the product of 3 runs:

they are bombing the fun out of the game -.-

if reduce all the drops! everywhere..
like: we find a good spot to farm: patched!
we find a not as good spot: patched!
and this is going on the hole time, until the hole world is patched and u cant unluck anything in pve anymore -.-

WHY THE HACK ARE YOU DOING THAT?!

..
i cant get any pauldron drop from any ettin anymore (well one out of 12 drops one -.-)

thats not really a very good gadget for gw (and especially not for gwf!)
if they keep bombing all the drop rates im gonna quit this -.-

it really sux..
you arent giving the pve players a lot of chances! -.-

They did NOT nerf the ettins. In all likelyhood they WILL NOT nerf the ettins. I think the dev's do want people to be able to unlock things in PvE.

They "nerfed the reason to farm ettins" so to speak. Well, at least they reduced the reasons why one would do it. They decreased the likelyhood of getting rich off it, and by doing this they probably hoped for people to farm it for unlocks and not money.

Right now there are only 3 runes worth 5 figures: (sup) Absorbtion, Vigor, and Healing. Ettin farming just isn't so rewarding that people are making 60k/hour from it.

This is probably a good thing, because of the influx of runes, prices have been plunging, making even the most rare runes affordable to the common player. That's the way ANet would have wanted things to be, at least I think so.

I still get good drops, and there are days that I don't. When I don't I either keep going until the drops get better (and they usually do after 4-5 passes) or I do something else and farm ettins another day.

Hardly any reason to quit.

BTW if you want unlocks, try FoW and/or UW. I've had a lot of perfect mods from there.

I just went from Beetleton through ascalon settlement and back and forth about 6 times. I got 1 gold which was a major rune, about 6 or 7 purples and a few blues. 2 major vigors, a minor strength and everything else was crap.

I did the thing with the pig quest to get more ettins. It does work and they do drop runes. Thats where I got my only gold drop from along with a purple. From my runs there doesnt seem to be any spot between Beetleton and past Ascalon Settlement that gives more/better drops than others. Its pure random.

I might try a few more times but I think I'll end up sticking with farming Griffons. I get a steady stream of money from that and its quicker. Unless I can find a sup absorb....

Default Hundred Blades W/Me Build

The best build i have found so far is W/Me

15 (11+1+3) Sword
9 (8+1) Tactics - for shield (Grognar's Defender or the Crimson Carapace Stance Shield)
9 (8+1) Strength
9 Inspiration

1. Hundred Blades
2. Sever Artery
3. Gash
4. Galrath Slash
5. Final Thrust
6. Physical Resistance
7. Ether Feast
8. Sprint

Sprint is just for getting around and running past things. Physical Resistance should be up all the way through each fight, last just over a minute. Ether Feast is a decent self heal, 105 i think. Hundred Blades charges up your adrenal skills very fast in large groups. I dont take anything to stop healing signets because the damage is enough to kill straight through them.
