But then, if they did go in the interior padding wouldn't it be all squishy and stuff? If my armor felt squishy and ewwy and gooey I sure as hell woundn't be wearing armor for long.

Maybe it has cloth inside, with the ecto to pad that? That way it would mould to your body size, and fit better? :S

That's what the other materials are for, to cover the ectos so you don't get them all over you
