Some people sold their amber chunks/jadeite shards to the rare material trader during the first day of the FPE for quick cash. Since the traders in Cantha were linked to the traders in Tyria, the rare crafting material became up for sale at all traders, including the ones in Tyria. 250g or so each, I recall.

I'm guessing that Frost_ was either lucky enough to snag it before ArenaNet patched the traders to not sell amber and jadeite or the item was obtained through a trade.

Yep, I figured out how to get things out of Cantha the Tuesday after the update ended. Here's how, find something worth some money(gold item, crafting material, ect.). Next, find a loyal guildie or a friend(someone you can trust). Meet with your rare item in the PvP arenas in Cantha. Trade. Meet your friend somewhere in Tryia, trade again to get your stuff. And you now have a Cantha item in Tyria.

These were gotten from the rare material trader the first day.

You COULD NOT trade to a guildie like said in this thread.

Canthan characters had their Trade Button disabled in the PVP outposts.
