Seen that once, we were doing the wailing lord quest. After we completed it and got the reward, we went to kill the wailing lord for fun. Needles to say the quest "failed" and we all died, but at the same time, the wailing lord dropped an ecto for some guy in the group

Just some of the things that someone says isn't possible, or isn't normally probable.

I had a steel key drop for me from a monster in the southern shiverpeaks while doing THK. That was bizarre.

Is there any list of what has been confirmed to drop rubies and sapphires? I've seen them drop from smites, coldfires, dryders, and snarling driftwoods so far.

You can get them from more than just FoW/UW. I've seen one drop from an elemental before

fire imps.
wish ive had that pic. got one outside of L.A.
wiki also say that:
Rubies and Sapphires are probably the rarest crafting materials in the game. They are even harder to find than Ectoplasm. They are usually found in the Underworld or Fissure of Woe, but there have been reports of them found in other areas of the game too, such as in Sorrow's Furnace. There has been at least one ruby drop in North Kryta Province from a Fire Imp, and a ruby drop from a stone elemental in Pockmark Flats and just outside of Sardelac Sanitarium.

well 2 now.

I've been to FoW dozens of times, but have only done Wailing Lord once because everyone quits after Forgemaster.

Just to clarify, it's not the location, it's the type of monster that affects the drop. Banshee's are "native" to UW, so they drop ecto. Mhago Hydra's are "native" to Ring of Fire, so they drop Darkstone keys.
