I LIKE my user name....have used it for years---thought about it very long before then---"what name would I like to be called by for years to come?" ....and since then I have been a stuffed toy plush mouse made by steiff!

When I started playing GW, I joined a guild made by some RL buddies. They were into "Legend of the 5 Rings" at the time, so they wanted us all to have Japanese names. Since I didn't really care much for the theme, I figured Yang (as in Yin and Yang) would do, but since that didn't really have a fantasy feel to it I added Whirlwind as I was going to make an Elementalist for my first toon.
At the time I made my account here I was playing that ele, and made my user name here the same. Could easily have been the name of another one of my characters instead.

{well yang is not japanese....chinese maybe (all japanese names have a vowel at the end exception is n or m) so you would be yangi or yanga....but the concept was great!!}

Not a mod, but since we're on the topic of Japanses names, I picked my name from a list of surnames. Rikyu is my last name, which is technically what people should refer to me as. Or something like that.

Isn't that right cosy? I can't remember for sure.

yes in Japanese most people are referred to by their last name first so its johnson joe, and when you talk to him its johnson-san, unless he is your inferior (yes that matters to them over there) then he might be johnson-kun....if you are about the same age or have a similar job johnson-chan. Now johnson sue would never get the -kun thats only for boys so she would either be -san or -chan.
When kids get together who are good friends then they start to refer to each other by first names (you would not be calling her sue until you are to the -chan stage!).

As for the vowel ending.....thats easy, the japanese syllabary all end in vowels (ka, ku, ko, shi, tsu, wa, etc) the exception is -n or sometimes pronounced -m (see the san and chan and kun)....so its impossible to have a japanese name that ends in p (no cosyfiep....I would be coshifepu

) and since they have less diphthongs and consonant combinations (no th, nt, ng, st, pr etc) they have a much harder time learn our language. And they have no real r or l----they are kinda the same and they have big problems trying to tell the difference when you say go to the light and turn right!
