Default How to Complete Althea's Ashes Solo (Redux)

On a second character I was determined to do this one solo.

You're not going to believe how easy it is. I *think* others have eluded to this, but I've never seen it laid out. It's real simple.

Follow the primary quests until you reach Nolani Academy. Begin your quest for the Ashes from Nolani, NOT Piken Square. If you leave from Nolani Academy you set off with a party of 5 level 8 NPCs, rather than a party of 3 level 6 NPCs. It made ALL the world of difference, and with a lot less frustration. It was suddenly no harder than any other mission.

I'm thinking that this may have even been the designed route to take, but the difficulty is realizing that its easier if you pass it up and take it from the other end.

Hope this helps.

True. It's possible to get more than three henchmen for that quest, which I think would help alot of people out.

(Although I you're referring to my solo writeup, I didn't even use any henchmen.)

I was actually considering trying this, but the walk deterred me from it, even though it really isn't that far.

And after travelling that far, there should be some kind of morale bonus as well.

Wow, just finished it. Took me about 2 hours due to all of the hoards of charr in the Flame Corridor. Never seen so many, lol. But yeah, listen to these guys - if you're going to do the quest, start from Nolani Academy and venture your way up there. It makes everything much easier.

anyone who wants to do quests alone should change to morrowind or something else, the secret of sucess in GW is teamplay, not your uber-roxx0r-class.

Real supportive. Somebody does something cool or challenging, and you have to try and be and stomp them down.

The "secret" of sucess isn't teamplay, it's strategy- of which teamplay is certainly a part. If you read (and comprehended) my writeup, you'd know that I wasn't saying "Warrior is so awesome, I can play this game without anyone else," but rather "I made this insane challenge for myself, it was pretty hard, and I'd like to share my ideas and results with the community."

To me it's clear that Cogburn was doing this too- albiet with a simpler and less challenging strategy, but you can't say he didn't do some planning to try and figure out how to deal with the games challenges. Cogburn- good for you.

With enough HP you can run up and just click on the altar to complete the quest. You don't even need to deal with the 239048230492 charr surrounding it.

Strategy is absolutely the key. When you're playing with a pick up group that doesn't have a cohesive strategy, is some cases they fair much worse than henchmen. Finding enjoyment in solving the challenges of the game keeps the game entertaining and worthwhile. Althea's Ashes is one of the hardest quests and requires good strategy (including putting the pedal to the metal at the right time) to complete.
