Default "Blood and Smoke" warning

1. The centaur you are sent to kill later during the quest does not drop multiple "Bloody Heart" quest items for groups. Only 1 is dropped when the mob is killed. Only the player who possesses the "Bloody Heart" will have their quest log updated.

2. However, when the "Bloody Heart" is returned to the task-giver, it does not disappear from your inventory.

3. So, a single "Bloody Heart" can be used by a group to complete the quest by dropping the item after returning to the task-giver.

4. And you can keep the "Bloody Heart" and pass it off to another group so they can save a lot time (or sell/trade/whatever).

Yes, we did kill the mob multiple times before figuring this out.

There's a quest you get at Fisherman's Haven that you open a chest and get an item from, and it only gives one. Wonder if the same thing applies. Never really paid attention >.>

If true, then that is very odd, because previous item-running quests I did with groups all dropped an item for each member of the group and that item disappeared from your inventory upon completion. This just makes sense, because:

1. Some of these quests are very long and it's not always practical for people to stay grouped. You should always be able to pick up a quest where you left off.

2. It would be absolutely unfair for someone who helps the group obtain the item, but does not take the item into their inventory, to get disconnected and have to recomplete that section of the quest again.

3. There is always the potential (as I discovered through actual experience) that the person who picks up the item could simply be a jerk and immediately leave the group, forcing them to recomplete the same task. With "Blood and Smoke" this problem is particularly aggrivated because the item does not disappear from your inventory. This provides motivation for someone (who has already completed the quest) to join a group simply to snag the item, ditch the group and take the item to trade or sell.
