Winter is essential in Ring of Fire. Also, when you get to the front gate, pulling enemies out one at a time or in small groups is essential. Don't be seduced by those people who think they can run you through. Calling targets is key as well. A necro with Mark of Pain will help with the small aggros you get. Finally, and as always, a couple of skilled Monks will make life a lot easier.

Patience, patience, patience in this mission will bring success.

I am a Ranger and I bring winter each time.
I have tried this mission at least 10 times and the group has failed everytime.
I am very frustrated because the members will not listen or work together.
grrrrr.

I even tried it with henches and made it a lot farther but still failed.

Winter is not essential, it can help, but if your not doing elemental damage to begin with, it won't do squat. Just go very slow, kill the Ether Seals at range from outside their ring of suck you dry. Like I said in another post, myself and 4 other guildmates did this mission friday night, as one needed incendiary arrows, atleast 1 of them hadn't done it yet, and I wanted oath shot. It took a couple attempts, but in the end we did it via the back way with henchmen to fill out the party.

Default How do you complete the mission?

I did that mission last night, and went in the front door, killed the mursaat and ether seals, cleared the building except for a few lava imps where you come in the back way, but no mission complete. We completed the bonus but couldn't figure out how to finish mission and open wall to Abaddon's Mouth. Three hours we spent in that mission trying to figure out how to complete the thing, before wiping on the last imps. Would killing those imps have completed the mission for us? I'm at a loss considering I spent the longest time I've spent in any mission trying to figure out how to complete it. Is the mission bugged or is there something I just don't know?

Doing the last 3 missions with PUG's is like playing a lottery. The odds are against you, but after a while you will find the right party and complete it. I had the same problems with that mission, and was lucky to do it in 5 tries. The next one was done in 2 tries. The last one... I stopped trying for the moment because I want my chr. for some experiments with alternative builds and that means much more fun to me than doing that mission over and over. One day I'll give it some more tries and sooner or later it will succeed. Patience is the key but fixation leads to faillure and annoyment. Go do something you like when you feel it takes too long

near the bridge, there is a switch you must press to open the way to the gatehouse. Clearing the gatehouse is the final task to completing the mission.

I saw a lever behind a wall that I couldn't reach on the far side of a bridge, but the map said that led to Abaddon's Mouth. Is that the switch you meant? Or did we just miss a switch in there somewhere? There were two mursaat behind the wall which I took out by spells that didn't require line of sight, but that didn't help.

Once you have a mission figured out it isn't too hard, but figuring it out sometimes can be a problem.

When you break through the front gate, and kill off the enemies who come charging out at you, there are 2 ether seals and 2 boss monsters. The first boss is down beside one of the seals, the second up on a raised area you have to go up a stairs to reach. The lever should be up by the second boss. It looks like a design on the ground so you might not think it's a lever, just hold "Alt" to be sure to spot it.

well about winter...it does help aginst the few monsters you encounter b4 the mursaat in the mission, but it actually decreases your damage agisnt the mursaat. also, i think people think that cold damage inceases your elemental damage aginst fire monsters. thats not true at all. winter just makes it so that your fire damage is not reduced. its like the monsters wear armor that gives them armor bonuses against fire damage, but any other damage is still applied normally.

I think Winter is only useful in Hell's... as for dmg Its pretty insane in Hell's, I think they have cold weakness, cos was much over the average. anyone else noticed that?

P.S.
a bit OT, so as for RoF, pull mobs, patience, and go thru door! vizier is a liar!

Yup, we killed him from below and never noticed the switch! That kept us from succeeding. Thanks a bunch!

Oh, one bit of spoiler and a seeming plot hole:

The vizier tells you not to go thru the front door even though it's the easier way. Now we know the vizier is not who he seems, but if he wanted you dead he'd have had ways to do it earlier. Why he would give bad advice there seems like a bad guy twist but doesn't make sense as one.

Did this mission with a team full of henchies. The hardest bit was taking out the mursaat monk boss. It didn't help that Dunham refused to use any skills and just fired at him with his wand instead.
I didn't use winter because I'm a hydromancer.

To finish this/every mission
There not many things to think about:
Have a leader(one who did the mission before), she tells you what to do, she uses the mini map.
All other just listen and follow.
Never ever rush, take your time.
Watch your circle/area in the mini map.
Never be rude or use bad language.
One calls targets, all press t.
Cant be so hard.

If you give me a group that acts like that, I can win every mission for you.
The only mission I do not like is Thunderhead Keep. Its because you have to explain so much to all members all the time.
But the drops in that mission are nice, so its worth to do it many times.

why is it that everyone find thunderhead keep so hard? i've done it on my first try on all three of my chars, and on one of them, there was almost no conversation
