Unhappy Stragglers quest

omg that stragglers quest in shiverpeaks is so hard, those stupid refuges aggro everything which kills em and all of them die before i could even reach them. It's also unhelpful when your randomly picked team doesnt know that they have to save elise to complete the quest does anyone know how i can finish this quest sucessfully?

Two ways. Either have a monk run ahead and heal Elise, or... go through the gate to the Ascalon Foothills, then come back and do the quest from the south. When you do that, for whatever reason, there's a longer period of time before the refugees get attacked. Usually, when you come from the south, you will get to them before they get attacked.

I feel your pain. I tried this over and over and over probably about 30 times. If you did a search you'd find my posts about it here lol. Finally I was able to do it. I was lv20 E/Mo by that time, group of hench and one necro I was taking from Grendich Courthouse to Yak's Bend. I wasted no time getting there. From the Foothills gate I ran past the first two summits all the way to the spot where the stragglers were suppose to be. I had done this before many times but there was one thing I had now I didn't have then... more fire power. I got there to find the rush just starting so I hit them all with my toughest spells. Rodgort's Invocation nearly killed them all in one hit and then firestorm finished the job. They all lived. But if you think thats the end, you now have to lead them all the way back to Yak's bend. Thats the simple part. Head back the way you came towards the foothills gate but proceed past and along the side of the mountain towards Yaks. You'll come across little resistance till a bridge where a couple ice golums and summits are. Trick is to wait for the group to split up and then attack. A couple more summits after that and your back in yak's bend. If your having trouble, look me up if I'm on and I'll help you.

Why not just kill everything between the strgglers and the camp?

If you stay away from the stragglers - in other words - Don't get them in radar range.
you should be able to kill everything between the stragglers and the camp.
Even if you have to visit the rez point several times.
Once everything is dead you won't have to worry about anyone aggoing anything.

This one's a piece of cake with henchies.

rezoning from ascalon foothills is the easiest way to complete this one.

Default quest spoiler (maybe)

I called this one a piece of cake.

It also took me several tries at it before I got it right.

After I figured it to be a timed exercise I started running the route just to find out what to do to shorten the time I needed to get to the stragglers.

If the quest is not active then the stragglers won't be there but all of the same mobs will.

Rule 1. Don't try to gather loot or XP.

Rule 2. Stay is a very close together. A PUG should appear as a single green dot on radar. Keep it that way.

Henchies follow in your foot steps and fan out when you stop. Watch where you stop.

Rule 3. Avoid fighting whenever possible. Don't go out of your way to aggro anything.

Rule 4. Kill everything in your direct path. Leave nothing behind to aggro the stragglers on the return trip. They too will follow in your footsteps.

Rule 5. Concentrate fire on 1 target at a time. AOE damage is nice, but taking them out one at a time is the fastest way to completion.

Rule 6. Don't lollygag around. Treat this as a timed mission. Move right along. This is no time to stop for a picnic. You can have your cake when you finish the quest.

I found that going straight out the gate and taking the second left is the fastest route.

Go straight out gate.

Pass rez portal.

Fight, or bypass if possible, the 2 dwarfs attacking the Ascalon guards.

Continue going straight.

Pass through the opening in the trees.

You are now faced with a valley on the right and an uphill slope on the left.

Do not aggro any mobs in the valley.

Hug the left side of the path and angle uphill toward the nearby pass.

You have to attack a couple Stone golems here. Try to pull them one at a time.

There may also be a couple centaurs in the pass. (I can't remember for certain).

Don't agro the golems and the centaurs at the same time.

Go into pass and stop to take a look around and plan the next move.

Toward the right is a group of mobs guarding a bridge. Avoid these guys. You don't have to play with them this time around.

Close in the middle (straight ahead) are a couple patrolling dwarfs.

These 2 are one choice to fight. don’t attack them yet.

Farther out (straight out) is the Ice golem and dwarfs that will eventually attack the stragglers. These should be far enough away so you won't have to worry about them.

To the immediate left is another Ice golem and a dwarf or 2.

Your second choice to fight. Don't fight them yet.

On the left past the Ice golem are the stragglers.

Just past the stragglers is a bridge that is loaded with dwarfs and other mobs.

I think these guys are having a drinking/fishing party and get really hacked off if disturbed. Avoid these guys. They are busy partying and don't want to be disturbed. Besides they won't share their goodies with you anyway.

Now you know where all the mobs are.

The only ones you need to worry about are the 2 patrolling dwarfs and the ice golem's group on the immediate left.

The patrolling dwarfs will move off to the right and out of aggro range.

Hugging the left wall of the mountain slowly move into aggro range of the ice golem. The golem and his buddies will attack you. If y did it right then the attack will not be within aggro range of the patrolling dwarfs even if they do move back to the left.

Once the Ice golem group has been taken care of -

If in a PUG only one member of the group needs to go get the stragglers.

Additional PUG members might get within range of the mobs on the bridge.

You only have to "talk" to one straggler to get the whole group to follow you.

Talk to the closest straggler; the farthest one is within aggro range of the bridge party.

After grabbing the first straggler you get to retrace your steps back to Yak's Bend,.

There should be nothing left in your path to aggro the stragglers suffering form the Alesia Complex. Unless you bypassed the 2 dwarfs attacking the Ascalon guards outside the gate. The guards usually kill only one of them so there might be one lurking around there.

The above worked for my little Necro self so it should work for anyone.

Well I did the rezoning thing, rescuing them is easy enough. Trouble is then whenever you hit any aggro they run into the dwarves brandishing their swords screaming 'help its the dwarves, save us!' Coming from the south there are a few packs of them to clear out too, whichever way you go.

It would be funny if it wasn't such diabolically crap programming. Really annoying. Impossible to change the script? Hardly....

Example. The new quest in ascalon given by the avatar of dwayna in Sardenlac tells that you should find 2 ghosts and return them to the city gates. While leading them through the ruins they attack nothing.

Result: mission is doable.

I'm all for challenge but retarded beyond belief? These are SCARED PEASANTS, why the frigging hell would they attack heavily armed dwarves?

Bleh, It never used to be this hard as the monsters never used to spawn on top of them. You could clear a path to them in time. All for 500exp and a lousy weapon....

I just click 'abandon' now, or never bother with it in the first place.
