Default Sanctum Cay: Are henchmen *supposed to* abandon you?

I've tried doing the Sanctum Cay mission with henchmen a couple times so far. Each time, after the cutscene with Vizier Khilbron, the undead pop up and I run off following them. However, my henchmen remain with Khilbron, leaving me only these worse-than-henchmen undead (4 grasping ghouls and 2 smoke phantoms are supposed to fight through White Mantle? *scoff*). If I follow them, I wind up dead, since they wind up dead and I can't take on the entire White Mantle solo. Moreover, because it's just me who's dead, the mission doesn't end, and I'm not resurrected.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there a bug when you take a henchmen-only party through this mission?

LMAO! I've never had that happen. Try going back near the Vizier and "alerting" the henchmen to your whereabouts. The game puts your character into autorunning after the undead from the cutscene, but maybe they forgot to program the henchies' autorun.

I never use henchies in missions for the most part.

the same thing happened to me today
the undeads minions ran off and I followed alone
I had to got through the first gate before my henchies moved from the vizier

I thought it may have had something to do with him disappearing
(as he does to pop up further down the road)

All you have to do is run back enough so that the henchmen can see you and they will start to follow again. What you don't see in the cut-scene is the Vizier and the henchmen are getting drunk on ale. They don't realize you left.

I did this mission today with henchies, and yup, they got stuck at the Vizier...I went back for them, ran circles around them, and they still didn't move. Ran all the way out of the gate, they didn't move...it took me running to find a White Mantle and then dragging the Knight on my tail back to where they were to get them to move and attack...

I finally managed to get my henchpeople to acknowledge me by simply skipping the cutscene (hey, I'd already seen it at least twice by then...). They seemed to have no problem recognizing me when I did that.

Of course, then I had another interesting occurrance: at the end, when I was supposed to be defending the Vizier at the dock, I took my group up to the top of the rise just to the left of the dock (assuming you are facing the dock). And there we stood, twiddling our collective thumbs for several minutes, with nary a single White Mantle showing up to the party. I saw a few red blips off to the east, and I could see a Savant way out there doing some prep work, but it seems they never worked up the courage to come see what was going on over there at the dock.

Anyway, as a result, I got to see my ship come in, as it were. It's quite impressive the way the whole thing just kind of falls into the scene from the left, hits the water with a loud splash, actually goes under water partially from the momentum, then bobs back up. Then sails appear, and the Vizier urges us to board (which, since there was obviously no danger at the moment, we did at a leisurely pace).

Only then did we see hordes of White Mantle out to the west running in our direction....

Aha!! That's the secret of the runners here! Yesterday I took a runner to get to the desert at low lvl. He insisted that we shouldnt suicide: if someone would die, he'd cancel the run. Well, he finished it and I was wondering how he fought the waves of mantles. It was a long time since I ve played that mission so couldnt remember what lvl mobs there are in there at the end. Since I did not see his health bar dropping, I really was wondering what happened over there.

I guess now i know. I ll try it soon and let u guys know if this happened to me too!

Oddly enough, when I later did the mission with my Mesmer/Necro, the exact same thing happened at the end: we stood around and waited, and no-one showed up to fight us. Maybe the alleged White Mantle hordes are triggered by first stepping onto the dock (I never touched the dock either time, until the boat had been summoned)....

I have done the mission 4 times now... first time, no problems... and only one white mantle showed up to stop us but we outnumbered him 6-1 and he died very quickly... With my second character it took 3 tries to complete. Santum cay was so buggy... We all made it to the dock... and all died as swarms of mantle attacked us... second time... we all died but one warrior... but his game was so buggy that the boat never showed up... yet I saw it. To him it was in pieces. Third attempt... hench died after cutscene... we made it to the dock. we fought, we died... all but the warrior... who held them off till the boat dropped and this time was able to get on.

Its a tough mission because of those bugs.

I'm pretty sure that's not it...I went with a group to do the bonus, and we went down past the dock and too far down to the beach (where all these enemies just kinda kept popping up and killing us). Wound up killing the guy, so we're like "alright, no bonus, lets just finish the mission" and walked back to the dock...holy crap every single mantle that you're supposed to fight was standing on top of each other right in front of the dock. LOL, we were dead in 2 seconds (I really wish I woulda screenshot that scene).

Same here I waited not far from the dock. I was all nervous, because i knew that a lot of people are suppose to come. But no one showed up!!!

For me, it wasn't enough. I had to "circle" around them, click on them and I still don't know what made them finally change their minds...

I've seen just about all these issues. First time I ran the bonus, and we passed by the dock without going near it. We planted the ghost, got the bonus and headed back to the dock. There was only one red dot on my radar, but when I hit CTRL, 20 names popped up in red! Well, we called a target and ran in. As soon as we got in Aggro range, the Vizier appeared started to say something, and the Mantle wailed on him. He was dead in under a second.

Second time, I went with henchmen. I talked to the vizier, and headed off after the undead. I attacked the first group of 4 mantle, and quickly died. I couldn't believe it at first, but then I noticed I had no help. The undead had run past, and the henchmen weren't there. I clicked on Alesia, and found her and all the others stuck on the first switchback (still near the Vizier) trying to run through the mountain. I had to pull up the map and double-click.

Third time, after the cutscene, I waited around, and ran back and forth a bit until the henchmen moved a bit. Then I ran off. The undead were long gone and dead, but big deal really. We went straight for the dock, and waited for the Mantle to show up. Alesia tried to tank, and I had to throw myself into the midst of it to keep her from dying. Of course, I died instead. About this time the ship emerged, and the Vizier told everyone to get on board. Instead, the henchmen fought until they died off one by one. Alesia standing over my corpse and casting Orison on herself. When she was the last one left, she tried to res me. Unfortunately, the Mantle didn't give her the 8 seconds she needed. I watched until the Mantle turned to the Vizier and wailed on him as he just stood there. His sense of urgency was gone.

Fourth time, henchmen followed me, and we kept the Smoke Phantoms alive until the end. We kicked arse.
