The place that I've gotten dyes most often is from this Skalebrood Caller thing in pre-searing. Everytime I start a new character I go to this spot and kill this guy, I don't get a dye every time I kill him but I've gotten two blacks, 1 red, and 3 yellows overall from that one guy every time I've gone back to kill him so 6 out of 30ish times or 1/5 I've gotten a dye. Most of you will probably say thats not possibly but thats how many I have got from that one guy. Hes in a cave where all the skalebroods are.

Dunno bout dyes anymore...I dont really PvE anymore.

But when I did, sometimes I would get no dyes one day, 5 the next hour. The people in my group would always be like...WTF?

I think GW online system just rewards people with no lives who are on there all day long by giving them all the good drops.

I'm sure this is a rather pointless thread if viewed as a source on the results of dye drops. They're random. There may be quirks to the drops through programming errors, but anyone with a brain can realize that they're just random, and nothing else really matters on a noticeable level.

But on the amusing side, I installed my account at my friends place (the one who dragged me into the game) and the first creature I killed dropped me a black dye. Back in the day, that meant that within 5 minutes of starting the game, I had 30k.

Michelle had a RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing stroke right there next to me.

I seem to recall when I started back in June, thinking the asking price of 400g was too much for black dye.

Yes. Dye drops are completely random.

Indeed, in pre-searing Ascalon, you get dye drops from just about anything, but after the searing, very few of them occur

Well in pre-searing you have a higher chance to get dye drops because a monster's drop pool is much smaller than in post-searing.

A monster in pre-searing can drop like what? A total of around 20 different items. While in post-searing it is like 50.

Don't feel bad, neither have I But I do get a good amount of colored items so I guess that kinda makes up for it. I've also only had like 3 silver dye drops.

I've gotten a few silvers, though I rarely see those drop. I think only once or twice have I seen a Black Dye drop for someone else in one of my groups.

I could be totally wrong and this could be a mere coincidence, but it sure seems to me that the higher the price of the dye, the less it will drop.
I agree 100%. I've been playing for 4 months+ now. About 3 lvl 20's deleted and 3 more lvl 20's later; I've only gotten 1 black dye drop. Every other dye drops like mosquitos when they run into the bright blue light. It seems as if black and silver are the least common dropped, due to my hours/experience of playing teh game.

Like everyone else has said before, black dyes are a bit more common in pre-searing than in post.
