Question Dye drops - completely random?

Hi all,

I did a search check first, but "dye" apparently is way too common on these boards Anyways, I was wondering if dye drops are completely random or are there some creatures more likely to drop dye? Almost all the dye I found in the game came from Charr, but that could be just coincidence

I don't think it's random, the higher the value the dye, the less likely it will drop, at least from my experiences. I've gotten tons of orange and blue dye, a medium amount of red, green, and the rest of the colors, but in 500+ hours of PvE I've never gotten a black dye drop. I've gotten a few silvers, though I rarely see those drop. I think only once or twice have I seen a Black Dye drop for someone else in one of my groups.

I could be totally wrong and this could be a mere coincidence, but it sure seems to me that the higher the price of the dye, the less it will drop.

this is just what I think, but from what I have noticed black is more likely to drop in pre searing.

The other colors just seem random, yesterday I got a green and a yellow in the same run, the day before I got a silver in the mines outside SF, we thought it was a good omen for drops, and then half an hour later still no green drops, so we asked a monk to do a prayer for some green drops and the very next drop was a green dye....not exactly what we were looking for but you can't say we didn't get a green drop :P

I believe that dye drops are completely random. If there is any certain places that drop certain dyes, but until then, no, there is no specific places where you can get specific dye drops.

I've gotten tons of dye's in "pre" but not as many in "post" I've gotten (3) Blacks in pre and only 1 in post. lots of silvers and everything else. pritty common drops. The key is to solo so you get drops from every monster which increases your drops and so better chance to get dye. The color is random.

Then the prices would continue rising because if would get rarer!

No the reason why they raise in price is because of a augmentation in players buying that type of dye.
I remember silver once was 2k and black was like 11-14k at one point.

And in the 400+ hours I'v played I'v only seen 1 black drop and have never gotten any either.

I've notice pre-searing also has good dye drops for ever 1-2 horus I'd play there I would have a dye drop and silver and pruple where just as common as the yellow and orange varieties.

Random IMO... some days I'll get a couple, mostly orange or purple... on rare occasions a black, silver or red. On very rare occasions, I'll maybe get a green or yellow.

But its all random... one day I'll get 2-3 dyes in a day... one day I got 5 dyes in an hour... then I'll go a few weeks without getting any...

Yeah, totally random. I get blues, greens, and purples mostly, but I've got a few silvers and reds. No black yet, waiting anxiously for one of those...I need the cash. ^_^

when I had just started playing and was a "noob" as you people call them, I went in pre searing with someone else in my party, and got a black dye, I forget from what creature, and he said something like "Black is a lousy color for armor, because you cant see the details, can I have it?" so I said sure, and have never gotten a black since lmao. I probably would have sold it in pre for 250g anyways, so it doesn't really matter.

Yah sure, dye is cool on all. But it's not something I would pay for more than 100 gold. I've only used 5 blue dye, and that's it. I'm just waiting for all the prices to inflate, one day, and i'll be selling purple for 500 .

If it's a no go, oh well. More dye for me

I only like dyes for mixing. I mixed blue+green on my female ele with aeromancer's armor from droks and its pretty cool looking.
