I've done this with 3 chars using just henchies; used a speed buff with one but it din't seem to make any difference.

My strategy each time: do the far right one, do the near right one, do the left one, run back and do the far right one again.

Personally, I think it has everything to do with your configuration (class, skill set, etc) plus selection of henchmen plus strategy. The AI also appears to be random, not just "if this, then that".

Ran a r/mo through it a few months ago with henchmen and couldn't take it. Fought the mantle -- no luck, tried to run it -- no luck, bypassed the mission.

Yesterday, my daughter's fiancee got to that point in the game, so I trotted out my e/mo and went down there with them and three henchmen. The mantle swarmed out like bees (about three groups), and handed our butts to us proper like; then when we went back they did it again.

Later that evening, I went back with the same e/mo and five henchmen. One group of mantle showed up and never engaged. Old longshanks just outran them, and in less than five minutes it was in the bag.

10/28 Ran my necro through it today with henchmen. No fighting, just running against one group of mantle. Took a lot longer for some reason, but the result was the same.
