Default A Necro tank

Recently i was playing with a friend of mine who was complaining to me about the state of affairs in the War Camp.So we tried something completely differen in the 5 man farm format.WE USED THE NECRO AS THE TANK.He went heavy curses with proximity spells like suffering, feast of corruption, parasitic bond, and shadow of fear.We still had a healer and protection monk, myself a e/n nuker pushing BiP for the monks. and of all things a ranger for interrupts mainly. It was quite nice watching all the green come up from the huddled masses.Honedtly, i dont see the need anymore for a warrior. It wasnt perfect, but it went just as well.

You betcha Necro's can tank. There's lots of variations possible here:

Start off with some Necrotic/Tormentors for AL70 and then get Morgriff's Staff for +10 armor.

Death -> Aura of the Lich + Dark Aura
Blood -> heavy on the Vampiric spells
Curses -> Shadow of Fear + Enfeebling Blood + Feast of Corruption.

I once saw a necro tank and kill 3 warriors in compettition arena. Some necro's seriously deserve respect!
I myself have fell foul to many necro's who have caught me without melandru's resilience.

My necro tanked against Tanzit once.. which was kinda amusing to see.. I had Live vicariously on me and another enchantment.. everyone was dead except me.. Eventually I took LV off me and I died.. lol

Dont laugh...but I farm grenths and sf melee.....

N/W

chaos axe or hammer is good, Its not too hard... you just needa backup monk for extra healing support when you get all of them on you....

Basically i have max Axe mastery, and Max blood, and the rest on soul reaping

then take demonic flesh, endure pain, vamp gaze, vamp touch, unholy feast and other axe skills (cyclone axe, or if hammer take crude swing)

then i go in and and hack away....if its gonna be a big fight i activate demonic flesh about halfway through or when low on health, and then when even lower i use endure pain and run into a group and do unholy feast then cyclone then vamp touch/gaze and i'm back at full and at least one bastard is dead....and disrupting chop is useful to stop binders and gnashers doing wells and fiends

and don't laugh again but i farm griffins in prophets using this build and lina and alesia....altho I should only take alesia....It's just nice to know that at least someone has my back....

If a situation gets messy my Necro can tank for a bit, using Siphon, Transfer, Gaze, Vampiric Touch, Well of Blood etc. all at the same time. Gives the team time to regroup. Can take an awful lot of punishment as well.

And people seem to forget that rangers can also tank very well - especially with a suitable secondary profession (like earth ele)

The only problem ranger tanks have is keeping the monster's attention - a problem Necro tanks also have, I think.

I've done things that made people respect a necro.

IE: Arcane echoing Spiteful spirit against 4 warriors who frenzied and instantly dropped in five seconds.

Arcane Echoing Life Transfer and making the entire enemy team go WOW WTF DOT MORE PLEASE

I use Unholy Feast when tanking, it seems to work wonders.

We did this in a group earlier. The war lagged out before the last set of bosses (FA run), and we didn't see a point in just leaving, so I bonded up the Necro, and had him take a keg. Same result as a War, except this time he was actually doing damame . I might try this tomorrow as a 4 man run.

Necros are the most suitable class for self survival because of their wide tange of skills and are taken for granted more than anyone else except mesmers. I took out 3 warriors with my N/W and warriors are just usually stupid.
