Unhappy /me is a little disappointed with the new areas

Seriously. They look fantastic, artistically they are huge. However, I don't see how these areas are supposed to be a veteran challenge. I went in with full 7 henches, and it was easier than a walk in the park. "Harder than FOW and UW" (ANet)? My ass. The new stone summit healers do a pretty good job, even rezzing their fallen. The new mobs (Dredge) look nice, but nothing memorable and skill-wise, they aren't the most dangerous either. All non-Boss Mobs are still at lvl 24 and are as easy to kill as they've always been in, say, frozen forest. What is this supposed to be? What am I missing?

I had the quest for the priest, where you have to return his tome. The only reason I didn't finish this quest was that once i dropped it, I couldn't pick it up again. Bug or feature? In either case it was frustrating enough for me to just warp back to Rankor. I guess I will play all the missions exactly once, see the famed uberboss, then grenths footprint and Sorrows Furnace will pretty much have lost their incentive for me to return, except maybe for farming. Unless I'm badly mistaken, these areas need serious buffing to provide the promised challenge.

And please, refrain from the usual assortment of "It's free as in beer, so don't complain" posts. I KNOW, and ANet has certainly done an outstanding job on this update, especially since I've not seen a lot of it in these few hours. I just want to see the challenge that was promised by ANet. How do you feel about it?

So you had an easy time doing the easy half of one of the quests. It is impossible to complete the second half of High Priest Alkor's quest with henchmen(the Balthazate Crystal part), and good luck doing some of the other quests with henchmen.

Also, try out the titan quests- if you can succeed on all of those on your first attempt(defend droknars is cakewalk to a couple of the others), I guess you're probably too good for the game. However, I'll wager 50 platinum that you can't do them all on your first attempt(or likely even 10th).

Try to get past the first half of one quest before decrying the new areas/quests as simple.

Heh and try to do the Fiery Djinn quest inside Sorrow's. That is one BAD MOFO that dishes out 400 points of damage per hit EVEN IF YOU HAVE PROTECTIVE SPIRIT ON! Our part of 4 just beat him but it was ALOT of hard work and ingenuity to do it.

Same has been said about ThunderHeadKeep.

Yet there are people (unfort. not including me, I only had 6 hench and 1 real person) who did it with hench.

I do agree and I must say I thank you for posting in a nice polite way of a complaint or issue with update. Better than another thread who blamed Anet for being lazy. =P

Anyway I ran from Rankor to Sorrows with nothing but henchmen and so far so good as for questing. I have screenshots as well but anyway I haven't gotten them all. But hey atleast I don't get my arse kicked within ten seconds of it and get confused about the situation I'm in.

Except.. Kilroy Stonekin.. easy quest but that is the most annoying dwarf ever...

KIIIIIIIIIILLLROOOOOY SSSSTOOOONNNNEKIIIN! everysingle time he fights he runs to each friggin group to agro and nearly gets himself killed and tries to fight.. poorly.
Yup and no doubt about it it's a parody of Leeroy Jenkins from WoW skit doen by that guild in the video. XD Funny but kinda annoying about that silly dwarf.

I never complained about GW as a game on any thread.
At least not in such a rude way as I've been complaining about those who created GW.

But don't get me started again, or else this non-democratic forum will shut down this thread in no time.

That's not new, is it?
Prince Rurik does it, the King in ThunderHeadKeep does it.
Probably there are other NPCs I don't recall who do the same thing.

Exactly, starting at 3rd quest they get much harder... I love when priests resurrect bosses, great idea xD

Dude the mesmer monsters are packed with max backfire and empathy, somehow constantly have hex breaker up so you can't backfire them and just cause general hell. The necros drop well of profane, and eles so far use the underappreciated earth skills to good use. Ran into a mob with one of every class, mesmer empathy'd the warrriors, I tried backfiring the monka nd mesmer. The mesmer hex breaked it, the monk did smite hex and did 85 damage on me. Then the necro casted wells of profane all over.

And yeah, you need teamwork for the priest quest.

Those mobs are definitely better than previous ones. Not only are there many of them but they seem to be using PvP skills.

It seems anet researched some builds/strats and put it in mobs.

I was getting ward against foes, then smited and with wells in this one little area and backfire to prevent some healing.

Anyone know if henchies got somewhat better?

Was about 2/3 of the way through that priest quest with henchies. Started seeing his health dropping, tried to run back, didn't quite make it to save him. Having no map also makes it harder. Crap, which way is back? Good times.

Yeah was that thing? A human firefly?

Just lead it to the Furnace Guardians and they will pretty much pwn him enough for you to dish out some damage without it attacking you.

I'm with Roland on this. It's just not that hard. I want it so hard that people complain it's impossible. Like underworld and FoW were before we all figured them out, at least to start it should be too hard to do.

I doubt there's a single quest that hasn't already been done within 12 hours of the patch.

actually a friend and I completed Alkors quest with 4 henchies...it's not at all difficult. The new area is visually stunning and well worth it for the graphic element alone....but the difficulty isn't exactly there.

Just wait untill you get to the last part of sorrows. You have to fight 3 of those fire fly guys at once. We had two henchies with us. We were unable to kill them. I have screen shots of it I can post in a bit.

Don't complain about Sorrows Furnace unleast until you have finished every quest. The original poster quit just at the first person you need to help. If it isn't so hard then why didn't you finish at least the first little part of a quest?

I played it for a bit before having to go to bed and died when we left the high priest stand alone and couldn't get back in time to save him. We had left one person back, but they came forward to help out. And then the mobs attacked the priest. Ohh well there is always today or tomorrow.

Hey, back off. Roland's got a point. I also did them all with hench, and the fire djinn went down w/o a single death, and yes by the way Freyas you can do the explosive crystals / priest bit with hench... there's two times you have to leave each fight and run back to assist him, once when you engage the next set and again when the crystal drops... but you can and pretty easily. (and do them out of order, leave the close ones on the ledge for last.)

And yes the first PuG within 3.25 seconds of the update going live, we grabbed the first titan quest (defend droknar) and ran up to granite and whooped on some titans. Yes we did it on our first pass. Unknowns. PuG. There is some parts that are supposed to be "ooh ahh surprise!" but really we've seen it all before. It took exactly 3 groups to figure out what did what class/attacks, and spawned what when it died.

I love ANet, and thanks for anything you're willing to do, and thanks for making them fight back harder and smarter, but I think my biggest letdown is I expected a whole lot more, all the hype and all the time it took to get here. It does leave you with a "hmm that's it?" feeling.

I'm sure those that don't PvP will find it a lot harder than those that do. When you're used to surviving (or trying to) a gankfest, and endless battles that drone on and on and on and on and on... like this post... well.

Anyway, I agree. A little disappointed. Expectations exceeded results.

Yes but spread across everyone in melee range; his hit is 400 total. So if you're trying to send in the bondtank and casters play off that = dead tank. x.x Get everyone in melee range and watch how less burnable you are. It's quite impressive, a new attack style. But it's not complicated.

-=-=-=-

PS: What is their obsession with horns and spikes? =) Wanna make a tough UW monster? Take a minotaur (who is already differentiated from weaker minotaurs by the number of spikes) and stick even more spikes on it. Want to make a Furnace Guardian? Stick some spikes on a giant. Want badass armour? why you want the spiked armor! etc etc. Even those balls on the end of the chains, which at first you would think are wrecking balls for mining but are apparently counterbalances - are spiked.

im also kinda disappointed. New, cool looking area with a few new enemies gets old FAST if there isnt anything new inside besides a bunch of boring quests that give you useless experience rewards.
