As someone has said, farming groups usually have specific purpose in mind and ranger simply doesn't figure into it. I usually will take a ranger as the 6th, though, for a faster monk boss take down. The problem is, usually one of the other member would drop because they want a 5 man group, not 6 for the drop ratio. So what is a group leader to do?

As for the the reason why the ranger is usually the last one standing, I theorize that it is usually because rangers are low on the hit priority list in PVP or PVE, and they are usually even a step farther outside of aggro circles since bows (and some more than others) have greater range than other ranged weapons/skills (positioning), and better armor. This is not to say ranger is good or bad (I play every profession, depending on what I am doing ATM, and what my team need skill-wise), it just an observation that perhaps you should consider.

Even though I have a monk which can easily get a group in SF, I decided to make a ranger for SF because they are just all around fun to play. Not just that, but they can deal instant huge amounts of damage. I'd rather play as a ranger than a monk doing a 5 man SF group anyday!

that makes you a stupid little kid too for defending necros. it is an opinion that necros are more versatile, as it is with all classes. dont be an ass

I love playing as a ranger, that's just me.. the choice of character is a way of choosing your playing style... it does not mean 1 hate other classes... any class is veratile, depending on the level of skill of the player..

Default rangers sucking?

rangers, are the least class to say they suck...first off, interrupt, its one of the biggest mistakes,to go up against,if ur a mesmer, elementalist,or monk, maybe a necro...and to go off against them,as normal pvp monks do,they stick together(atleast most of the time for my pvp's)their screwed once you brign quick shot and choking gas, even if its recharge time is to long, you still have the other interrups...second off,a crippling ranger, not only can it stop a warrior in its tracks, but it could add hunter shot, with ignite/kindle/incendiary,and a poison to that,to even add on to damage...third,rangers arent just helping themselves, but their teams, with traps, healing spring especially, and spirits,to help with a warriors mp length...fourth,partner up a ranger with a mesmer secondary,or ele,you can spam more aoe for your teammates, and for the mesmer, you can bring imagined burden, crippling anguish, andto interrup, you can bring cry of frustration,to help interrup more...last,rangers(atleast some =/)can tank or take damage,as i did for my guild during a pve guild raid, spamming serpents quickness with whirling defense/lighting reflexes then using troll unguent(as its high hp regen with low req)then using a trap to slow them down

LOL I know I've already given my 2 cents worth, but personally I would have to say the number 1 reason why rangers aren't chosen to go to SF groups is because the people that make up the groups are the same people that choose to take a hench ele against a real Dom mesmer into Thirsty River.

well i take ele hench in thirsty and i do fine. i even farm exp there so is not that bad.
rangers arent usually pick for reasons like ppl don't know the power of a ranger. and sometimes casters want someone to tank the hits and ranger usually are farther back (slopes in hills) so the monks might be first hit. A ranger is always good it can help u escape and interrupt bosses. dmg is just a bonus

My ele is much further than my ranger, tho I wouldn't be as silly as you to draw any conclusions from that fact

Can your solo ranger handle infinite ice imps coming down the pipe without breaking a sweat? Maybe you have a build for that but I'm guessing not. The neat thing is I recognize Rangers too - that build is a E/R.

Eles r nothing without support team, show me 1 or even 2 eles who can do anything by themselves... well other then 2, lvl 20s farming around ascalon area... I am quite sure your ele cant "handle infinite ice imps" without some type of support or a tank.

Nothen wrong with ele skills, i have a fire necro who can hand himself very well, Just cannot belive you implied your solo ele can "handle infinite ice imps".....

As for rangers... 2 man UW trap team is very efficient....

The reason I wouldn't accept the majority of rangers into my party, is because I have seen a lot of very BAD rangers out there who just use power shot and other poor bow attacks without interrupts. I'm also not hugely keen on traps, I understand their uses in some missions in SF, but I really hate trappers in places such as FOW or UW as it just slows down the pace of killing so much, setting up a bunch of traps and then waiting for them to come in is just so slow compared to a balanced team.

Going off topic:
I have seen a lot of mesmers out there without any form of energy management with lots of 15 energy skills and thinking that because they are playing an advanced class and are lvl 20, they must know how to play their class!

I have seen a lot of necros just casting doing very little but cast vampiric gaze. Yes it's a nice skill, but some reason they manage to let lots of well of sufferings pop up despite you telling them to have some corpse exploitation.

I have a lot of experence with these classes and I have a good idea what makes a good ranger, mesmer, necro. Usually it requires a lot of patience to setup the team with these though. It takes time to change people's build so they fit in with other team member's build. I mean, ever had the trouble with 2 rangers or mesmers interrupting the same casters at the same time? Or the time when 2 necros try and use the same corpses at the same time?

The other classes such as elementalist, monk and warrior are easier to play and fit easier in the team build. Of course there are still awful ele, monk and warriors out there.

Scourgey... you couldnt have said it any better...

Few things about trapping though... crippled creatures run slow for better nuking and such, also, with the new AOE patch, traps around the casters keep them alive...

When i go to setup a team, i make sure ppl call their corps pulls and what not... actualy i try to make sure only one person is using corpses.... also, with interupts, best if 1 primary interuptor, and they call their interupts... Teamspeak is a god send.... Also, nothing pisses me off more then when im on my shutdown mesmer, and a freaking ranger keeps interupting... realy kills my abilities....

Team Work... Team Work... Team Work!!!!!!!

Default need some help...

I know this is off topic from thread a little but seeing as how Rangers are the topic of discussion I'll ask. I have Ranger/Monk recently Ascended with over 150 hours played just on it. I've tried every kind of build but can't really find one I can get to be offensive in anyway. I can't seem to find a basic barrage/interrupter build template either. So if you people could help me with some designs I'd be very grateful.

My best guess would be because it's rare that you find a 16 marks with barrage and serp's quickness. But what the hell do I know.. I only have like 4 or 5 ranger or sub ranger characters
