I finished thirsty river yesterday with an awsome group yesterday after 5 failed attempts at doing so with hench and what not. I was getting a little worried about finding a good group when someone was being rather rude to me when I countered his "looking for runner for mission" with "you can't run thirsty river... cause the end doesn't happen until every last priest and group is dead." And we who know the mission know you can't run to the last priest and boss. But with that good group, I actually enjoyed Thirsty River though I think my favorite is The Frost Gate... I think thats the one... where you light the beacons?

I still really like the North of the Wall quest in Pre. That is, the Charr hunting , not the actual quest itself. It's a great way to get to know other players.

I really strongly dislike Thunderhead Keep.
The funny thing is, I have gotten through it on the first or second try when I have had to do it for a char. In fact, I have had some of my best PuGs there.

But..... every single time, without exception, a guildie or friend asks me to go through it with them, the group might as well be trying to cross the Alps in cricket gear while riding three toe ground sloth on Valium.

I believe they need to ease up on the missions and make them like the Sactum Cay Mission as that was cat walk compared to the 3 ascention missions. This is so others that are behind can catch up this teachs you nothing about PVP as it is suppose to.

Disagree entirely. The ascention missions are hard for a reason. I see lvl 9's in the desert all the time. They are a moron barrier to stop these a-holes getting an easy ascention, just like thunderhead keep keeps retards and greifers out of the ring of fire. I don't give a rats ass about PVP. Leave the missions alone. Some are actually a good test of skill and make people work as a TEAM. (heaven forbid)

Anyway, none of the missions teach you about PVP. They aren't supposed to. You don't see monsters hurling abuse at you and shouting PWND!!!!111 all the time. They don't all use the same FotM build either. Weird....

Agreed!! Especially the Ascention tests. This is probably the most rewarding experience in the game IMHO, especially since you don't actually gain much of anything at all. All you have is the ability to say you did it.

And I love standing in Thirsty River listening to lvl 12 m/n shouting for someone to "Run me through". Sorry pal, you are going to have to get your hands dirty.

I also get a shameful joy in reading posts here where people have trouble getting past the doppleganger. The posts might as well read:

"The AI that I'm always complaining about that has Alesia tanking, Reyna standing in poison swamps, and Orion casting Firestorm after the battle is over -- That same AI beats me hands down using my skillbar against me, even when I've had the opportunity to prepare it before the match."

Sorry, that sounds Elitist, but these 4 (5 if you count Glint) missions are actually intended to test skill as opposed to all other missions that are intended to tell a story.

Today, after work I'm going to Augery Rock and offer to run people through the Doppleganger for 2k.

a lvl 9 maybe not but as a lvl 14 in the crystal desert i still beat all the misssions on my first go and i did not get run through them. The lower lvl playeres are the ones you want. They have done this missions and probably have played before thats why they are low lvl. They don't want to do all the missions 4 times + all the failed attempts

Anyone who can't get past Doppleganger on their own doesn't deserve to see the rest of the game.

When you enter the last area with glint, if you talk to her she plays a cut scene about whats ahead of you and whats happened while you where in teh desert, which after opens a portal for you to run through, but it still gives you the option to steal her eggs. However if you just enter and steal her eggs it doesnt play the video clip, which is what seems to of happened to you.

Ascension = Cakewalk. If you're using a monk, you'd better be able to solo heal all 3 or you're a failure. o.O It's a good test of skill for every class, IMO.

My most favorite would be Hell's Precipice (closely followed by Abaddon's Mouth).
My least favorite would be Ruins of Surmia. It's just so boring! :|

Favorites:
Thirsty for the increasing difficulty and attempt at a PvP-type mission.
Thunderhead for the monsters that are considerate enough to come to me so I don't have to chase them around.
Hell's Precipice from the portals to the end.
Dragon's Lair is always a blast, especially trying to beat down Glint.

Most Hated:
Elona. Why is there always one party member who thinks they can run it, die while bringing about 10 monsters with them, then blame the party and leave?
Ring of Fire. Similar to Elona one person always aggroes monsters, brings them under the ether seal the party is destroying, and wipes out 7/8. And that person is the one living, and of course did not bring a rez sig.
Thunderhead when I join a PUG of rushers. I guess they're bottlenecked there for a reason.

[ Off topic ]
One thing I have noticed about Thunderhead though: Always start the party yourself. Before enterring the mission, discuss tactics with the team. Anyone who spams "gogogogogogo" is a rusher -- kick 'em fast. Anyone who never types anything is a possible freeloader or they don't read team's messages. Make sure they actually understand English (hey, never know) or aren't simply afraid of being flamed for saying something "noobish". If they are the previous boot 'em. If latter, they're probably a good player in disguise. Last warning sign is the guy who insists his Axe/Smite/Heal/Tactics/Strength tank is teh uber pwn and won't decide on three (or four...I've seen it work) attributes is not a team player. They'll probably be the ones to watch the team die, spam some obscenities, and map. Again, kickity-kick-boot 'em beforehand. A lot of folks in Thunderhead have been trying to pass that mission for a while. Anyone willing to spend an extra 5-10 minutes discussing tactics is probably a good choice.
[ /end off topic ]

On a side note: Most abused mission is Sanctum Cay. I usually get good drops there (silver and black dyes, golds, scrolls) so I sometimes hang out waiting for a good looking party to request one more.

I think my favorite mission has to be Hell Precipice or the FoW quests. The worst mission ever has to be thunderhead. Your forced to sit there and wait, its like...serving time.

Favorite: -Thunderhead Keep.
Least Favorite-Elona/Abaddons Mouth. Simply because I was stuck in both missions... And in Abbadons Mouth I was unable to find a decent PUG, so couldnt do the mission.. (Impossible with henchies)

As for Thunderhead Keep. I love forming a decent PUG and play the leader and do the mission with great ease, have done it 5 times now and have made it 4 times (Other warrior died at eastern wall, letting the creatures go thro that gate and backstab us)

Just play leader, call targets, be clear, and repeat every strategie that you are going to use 5 times, just because there is always 1 person who thinks he is Üba l337 and he might not listen to jou.

My favorite mission......I'd say its a tie between Thunderhead (love the somewhat LOTR style battle at the end, especially if you choose to guard the top of the stairs ^ ^) and Nolani, just love seeing the looks on ppl's faces when they see 1 person drop an army of Charr without a scratch ^ ^
My most hated mission...hmmm....idk, they were all pretty fun to me, the harder the better ^ ^

I'm still laughing and took no offense to all the foul words I was called when I told someone that he can't get a runner through thirsty river. "Oh but I have gotten run through here 5 times with previous characters, I know it can be done." blah blah. Even though I had a lot of difficulty with the desert missions, they were actually the most rewarding ones to complete. Plus ascending itself. I took firestorm with me and that was it. Waited for him to cast it, then I ran to the side and cast mine on him. Then to avoid being hit by his fire attack, I ran behind one of the walls while firestorm finished him off. With Glint, I got the cutscene and then someone touched her eggs... so we killed her lol.

And I love going back and doing charr missions and quests with people. So fun to destroy them without being to harmed by their attacks.

I dislike the Thunderhead keep mission also, not because it is so hard (I like the challenge) but because it is sooooo looooong. I get tired of waiting around and you have no idea how much time is left. The mission really needs a timer.

Oh, and any mission when somebody leaves or goes afk. Is it just me or is this happening more and more often.

My favorite one is Elona by far. It is so easy once you get it, I can do it with henchies, bonus and still 10 minutes left. I know it by heart and I just love it - because it teaches so much yet lots of people don't learn from their failures there.

The one I dislike the most? Maybe D'Alessio Seabord, it is just a boring long mission without any challenge. The part where you defend the monastery with Dorian is so easy yet so long and boring, I almost fall asleep there. And the bonus is not too great either, just a long run back after clearing the way (or maybe have a monk take the relic) - they could have made the bridge repairable from the other side at least to spare you that.

For all those that complain about Thirsty River:
I beat that mission with 4 people, my lvl20 mo/w, a lvl13 N/me, a lvl20 Me/x, and a lvl20 Ele/x. The Mesmer was the tank and smite target, because we lost our 2 W's by the 2nd boss. In the end the mesmer was dead on the ground, I was hiding behind something so the arrows couldn't hit me, and I propped up the Ghost who basically slaughtered everything.

We even got the bonus, because we killed the last three groups so fast.

So I look back on that mission as one of my favorites, because as a team we pulled though and achieved what looked to be impossible.

My build was probably something like this:
shield of judgement/balths aura/OoH/Dwaynas kiss/heal party/healing breeze/rebirth

Nothing kills PVE aggro like a 16 smiting shield of judgement cast with a 20% longer enchanting mod. So long as all aggro targets only 1 person this works beautifully, the only problem being when casters follow to closely and chain aggro back into the group.
