Default A monk's path??

Ive got a R/E and i wanted to make him into a R/Mo so after he ascended i went to seeker's passage to the the quest to change your second proffession. The quest takes place in Diviner's ascend, so i changed to Elona reach because i could get there faster. The run to the mission isnt that hard there aren't many monsters. after a little while of running i see the boss i have to kill his name is "Eater of souls" as i run towards him, he burries himself in the ground, I think to myself, darn ill have to wait til hes back up, but as i approache his location, i see a bunch of scarabs pop out of the ground, gosh i hate those things, so i start killing them but more just pop up, i figure this must be part of the mission, but more still keep coming after a while i cant kill fast enough to take them all down! and they just end up killing me! I must have tried this mission over 20 times with no success. Anyone else ever do this quest that could give me some pointers?

i think its a cool quest

you need to keep fighting, and attack again when you die. eventually he will dig himself back up and you will enjoy killing him...

I see i always though if i came back after they would just all come back again so i though u had to kill them all in one run. Thx for making it clear. It makes me so happy to kill him!

1. Kill all the scarabs.
2. Ranger or mesmer interrupts, and backfire.
3. Pure pwnage ftw

Barrage works quite nicely for scarab control

If he had just ascended, he won't have barrage for quite a long time. But yes, it works well.

Yeah i guess barrage would work but hadden't got it yet since markis is only later, but i found that if you use ignite arrows it works well since its pretty much hits all of them, also you can cast throw dirt then set a couple of fire traps and there done for. but you still need to run away then come back because if you stand on the spot were they spawn, they just overwhelm you.

But Thanks anyways, i now have an accended R/Mo at my disposal

Tips to anyone else that might experience these problems...bring a nuker with you I used to hate scarabs with my W/Mo, but my Ele takes them all out lol. Just have a tank (or someone other than the nuker) run up and activate them so they mostly aggro on him, then have them firestorm/meteor them. I was taking those things out like it was no big deal yesterday in the desert.

I just love when something gives you problems on your first character, and then you can go back and kick their butts with a diff profession

Three words for a solution that will work for all professions/builds (and all missions/quests I might add): take your time.

Don't rush
Get close enough to be detected by one scarab (use your radar).
Retreat
Pull only a few scarabs at a time
Fight far enough not to attract more
Kill scarabs one by one
There are about 4/5 waves of scarabs you must remove
Take out the big boss

That's exactly right. I'm always amazed at how many people think Monk's Path is impossible and they just to it through attrition with 60% death penalty, killing one scarab each life then marching back there after dying again and again. The secret is to recognize that the scarabs want to protect the eater of souls, and they won't wander far from where he is hiding. This quest really exposes who uses strategy and who doesn't. If you pull back, you can kill one or two at a time with any profession and have a really easy time and fun time with this quest.

Aroundabout that. It's east. Just head out of Elonas and follow the green arrow.

In relation to following the green arrow on your compass map, make sure the quest is selected or your arrow may point towards the wrong place.

Thank you. I can't tell you how many times this method has gotten me through rough spots in the game. My first strategy is to always try and pull a few creatures at a time. It takes some time, but you will almost always be happy with the results.

And yes, you can get a Monk's path in seeker's passage if I remember correctly, but head out of Elona Reach to do the quest.
