Default Where to get lots of bleach shells?

I need to find a place to get bleached shells... So far, Dune of despair mission isn't working for me.

In all my time in the desert I have never picked up a bleached shell. So it seems that they are pretty hard to come by.

its pretty hard to find a exact spot where worms are because they like to come out of the ground and knock you down. But i usually find that they come out of the ground near the teleporters

One place that I've ALWAYS seen a Sand Wurm is to the east of Hero's Audience just before the first portal into Vulture Drifts.

East of Hero's Audience, Usually when sand elementals are around with the sand wyrm spawning....
In my opinion sand wyrm is one of the toughest creature in guildwar.

Yesterday I ran into an earth (sand?) elemental (boss?) half way from the 1st teleporter right outside Amnoon Oasis to Heroes Audience. The elemental wasn't much of a problem, but the sand worm(s) that he summoned slaughtered myself and all of my henchmen. I was pretty pissed off because I hadn't "unlocked" Heroes Audience yet and I was about to step into the portal. Now I gotta walk all the way from Amnoon Oasis again.

The problem with the worms, is that they are few and hard to kill .... if you take henchies, then they will also swallow up the drops ...

I've managed one on my wa/mo with only the monk npc along, and yep, the one near heroes is the best one to "farm" because you can pop in and out to reset him.

By far the most "fun" fight I've had is 3 worms at once

i've found a way to get a 50% chance of finding bleached shell outside Hero's audience by bringing Alesia along. But the killing of the wyrm fails if alesia dies.. a good way is to lure the sand elemental to the wyrm and let the wyrm kills them first hehe

there are a couple of good spots where you can farm sand worms without being interupted by other creatures. the droprate for shells is pretty low though and I had to solo nearly 20 before getting the 5 shells I was after.

Siege Worms drop them too.
One of the ascension missions has a couple of them around at set spots you can farm.

Short story: ONLY consider bleached shells if you want the 15/-1/30 Idol (req 9 curses). If this is the case, just buy the shells from other players. Or if you're really stubborn, I'll give advice on farming them too.

Long story:
The first thing you need to ask yourself is "Why am I after bleached shells?" Let's take a look at the awesome collector post, page 7:

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...7&page=7&pp=40

There is 1 collector giving a helmet in exchange for bleached shells. Forget that. Your time, effort, and money are all better spent at an armor crafter. If you're worried about the AL differences, then don't... 9 AL on a single piece is not going to matter between here and Droknar's Forge.

Then there is the other collector:

===== o. Lord Dorn Lendrigen (5 Bleached Shells) =====
• Cane (chaos dmg:11-22, req. 9 illusion magic, 20% casting)
• Idol (energy+12, req. 9 curses, 15/-1/30)
• Air Staff (energy+10, lightning dmg:11-22, req. 9 air magic, 20/20)
• Holy Rod (fire dmg:11-22, req. 9 divine favor, 20% recharge)
• Crimson Carapace Shield (req. 9 tactics, 16/45/-2 while in stance)

The second item is the real treasure (the Idol). Bleached shells are the ONLY way to get it.

The Cane? Well, you can get a 20% recharge version at other collectors, which IMHO is better anyway.

The exact same Air Staff, Holy Rod, and Shield are available much more easily at other collectors. Just search that collector post for keywords.

Ok, so if you've gotten this far, hopefully you're being sensible and going for the 15/-1/30 Idol. Now, on to the topic at hand: how to get bleached shells.

IMHO, the best way to acquire bleached shells is to buy them. I accumulated 5 in under an hour by simply warping to all the districts in all the desert cities/missions and LA district 1 and Droknar's Forge. Name a price. Repeat a message like this in the trade channel: "WTB bleached shells @350g". Just be careful though: ANet changed the internal serial number of bleached shells recently, and older ones do not stack with newer ones. Keep an eye on your inventory and make sure that new shell purchases add to the same inventory slot. If you go to a collector with "2 bleached shells" and "3 bleached shells" in two different inventory slots, he will think you have only 2 total.

If you are intent on getting your own, seek out a wurm location that is near a zone portal and learn how to solo it. My favorite place is near the topmost eastern exit of Vulture Drifts. Draw the wurm as far east as possible, and no other mobs will bother you. Another good place is just east of Heroes Audience. Solo the wurm, exit/re-enter the zone, and repeat. However, I had to kill 12 wurms solo before I got a single bleached shell. That took over 2 hours. Not recommended, but if you must be self-sufficient, this is the fastest way.

FYI, I soloed the wurms with a W/Mo build. Lots of skill combinations work just fine. If other mobs happen to invade you, just sprint away and let the wurm eat them. They'll even damage the wurm a bit for you... so it's not a problem.

5 Bleached Shells will also get u Vile Scar tatoo (+1 Death magic AL60 ) from the Collector at Amnoon..

The collector, OR the drocknar is the only option.. and the Armorer at Drocknars takes 25 Parchment + 4 Feathers and 800 G to make the Tatoo..

I have a really hard time find ppl selling Bleached Shells, they simply drop WAY to rare

if the price at Parchement are 196g for one, the price will be arounf 5000 for the Armorer crafted tatoo.

I picked up 2 shells off seige worms drop whilst playing desert of despair and the rest I brought for about 200gp each from amnoon and augury rock. It took a while to buy the shells though. However I'm not very patient and got annoyed at those trying to sell me shells for 2 plat each.

Really? I run into sand wurms all the time, must be my luck. In Vulture Drifts, I seem to run into them in the southwestern corner of the map a lot. And in Prophet's Path in that path to the waypoint to Vulture's Drift. Those two spots are where I run into Sand Wurms the most.
