Me and a guildmate monk just beat it with a PUG with 3 healing spells each, we both had: Dwayna's Kiss, Infuse Health, Healing Touch.

I also had OoB, and he had no energy management.

Flawless Victory. Not a single death. GG THK.

1 good monk, and 2 good warriors can make all the difference

So the torch-trick still works?

And, if you're standing by the king while holding the torch, you still take all the aggro? The king will be safe?

I understand this mission has been nerfed to make the most unskilled players happy. *shrugs*

I beat it for the first time with 4 Warriors, 1 Ele, 2 monks, 1 damn leaver.
Ele was the "aggroing-rushing" kind. He died 'til -60%DP then we told him to stay at catapults.
We still beat out the mission, because Warriors were full damage, Monks were good at their work, and we used catapults wisely.
Holding the catapatults and fire them correctly can also make the whole difference.
And DO NOT KILL the monk boss first.
Didn't make this time the bonus, still.

this mission isnt hard...the only hard part is finding a compitent group worth your 1-2 hours of time. find a good group that works together and actually knows what they are doing, and your in the money.

I've only done this mission once, but i have attempted it a good 25 times, its not so much people leaving - its people not working together.

It's not really the mission itself that is hard, it's the fact that you always loose people on the way to the fort, usually one of your monks. If you do it with your guild, it's just another mission, but if you do pug's it can be frustrating.

you just get people running off and not focusing on the task at hand which is pretty agro

done it by now but the hassle of people leaving when saying no quitters is really annoying.

Just did this mission last night with: 3 tanks, 2 nukers, 2 monks, and 1 ranger. Ive done this both ways, stay with the king and block doors/catapult usage. The group had but 3 veterans of THK, including myself, and 5 first timers. Needless to say, under great leadership, people listening and staying put, we squashed the enemies in no time. Im happy to say, Ive done this mission with 3 characters, once per character... 100% success. The key is people performing their roles 100% of the time. No running out the doors chasing enemies, or switching doors and leaving 1 person to watch a door. This is one of my favorite missions, and is in no way hard.

The problem is, most times, I get stuck with a bad group that aggros everything, and every1 just dies. My ele is still stuck on that mission.

I've done the mission four times, but messed up on only one..
My necro...I wore the wrong set of armor (not infused), and as an MM, my minions murdered the already weakened group.

This mission really just needs competent people.
I've done it both ways. Split and King

For the split, you need 1 torchholding tank, a monk, and 2 randoms per side.
If you split, it is NECESSARY to have a TANK be a TORCHHOLDER.

For the King guard, you only need 1 tank to hold the torch.

Every time, I've done the bonus though.

Thunderhead Keep! The mission everyone loves to hate.

I have done this mission more times than I can count. Decent sized guild with lots of mulitple characters for each person. We have many screen shots of this mission in our Galleries. Link

I have done this with groups consisting of just myself and henchman to full parties and all points in between. Last night was the first time we did it with a majority Ranger team and let me say, that combo works great!

Anyway, I found through our experiences is to stage everyone in the center of the courtyard (between the two gates/doors). Have warriors (if you have two, but not necessary) watch each door, as enemies approach, get the aggro and drag towards the center, this keeps anything from ever going up the steps to the king, and makes it much easier on the monks to keep eveyrone healed. Always kill bosses last, attack enemies as a team. A sure way to lose this mission is have eveyrone attacking seperate targets and/or everyone trying to kill the boss as everything else slowly kills the party.

Communication and teamwork is the key to this mission. It can seem like one of t he hardest missions in the game if approached wrong, and when approached correctly, people cant figure out what all the fuss is about

I had trouble with that one, gathering random groups..

I finally just did the smart things, and asked a few guildies..

We did thk, then went on to complete all of the ring of fire missions, abaddons, hell precepe(sp?)

My guild rocks, we had two random people(guldies had to leave) and they were amazed at our guild

We did hells precipe with 2 monks/ 2 warriors/ and a Necro, wasnt bad at all... no ones health went beloew 75%

I was proud. lol

THK used to seem like it was supposed to cull out the less skilled players and force them to learn how to play. =X

I have completed THK more than 10 times (for myself and helping friends/guildies) and have tried and failed more than that (closer to 20). Sometimes the group fails before gettingto the first group of beastmasters, sometimes it fails on the last group of mursaat. The thing all of the failures had in common was not working as a team - attacking 3 or 4 targets simultaneously and people leaving because they didn't want to...wait why do people leave?? The biggest reason for not completing has to be people being stupid and working only in their best short-term intrests.

When we completed the mission (either at the king, at the gates, or in the middle) everyone had the same plan - stay with the group, attack one target at a time, attack bosses last, and NOT GOING OUTSIDE THE GATES TO PICK UP LOOT. I really hate it when someone screws the whole mission because another teammates white raven staff expired (open for anyone to collect) and they have to run outside and get it. *head sags in disbelief of stupidity/greed*

It is really only takes what you should be doing all along - teamwork.

Six word answer to the title question:

It requires awareness of the terrain.

That's what makes it harder than other missions.

Torch trick ftw. Unfortunately, every time I picked, even after explaining clearly to my team beforehand what I was going to do,someone would shout 'zOmg no b0nus nooob!!!' and ragequit..thus creating a chain effect where the entire group would drop out ,leaving me standing alone, holding a torch and feeling a bit stupid.
