from what i understand, yes . But i belive this is why you gain so many skill points all the time, and the majority of quests give cash instead of items.

I just hate the price of the skills. After you've bought some skills, you're at 1k/skill.

What happens when you wanna change from a meleesin to a pressuresin or a monk killer?

Basically the price of skills forces you into farming for gold rather than playing the content. My first character I took through every available quest and have at the end missions without farming in the meantime and I barely made enough gold to afford more than a handful of my primary skills. I haven't even bothered with most of the secondaries due to no gold unless I farm ...

If you switch secondary class you can keep your previously purchased skills if you switch back, but you'll be starting back at zero each new secondary you choose otherwise.

Sure, the 'did' add a gold award on quests, but really the 150 gold award means you'll need to do at least 5 of them just to afford 1 sill once you reach the 1k mark per. Many people I've talked to all seem to agree that this is the low point of Factions. It seems they went from an interresting balance of RPG content / PvP content in the original game to putting most of their focus on PvP content in Factions, yet still selling it to consumers under the guise of being an RPG as well.

If you are having a problem with gold, go do some of the missions/quests that give you Kurzick/Luxon faction.

Yesterday, I got my 10k Kurzick faction, traded it in for 10 amber chunks, and sold that for 40k (pretty quickly). I now have all the Rit skills minus a few Elites I still need to cap.

there is one quest, after doing a certain quest in the first town[might be after you get a second profession], your primary class instructor will have a quest for you. You get most of the times two more skills[one for your classes each] or one on certain parts of the quest. Basically, you get stuck going through training to learn where your classes work [like pulling or killing kiters] and where they don't[like assassins having agroed on them selves too much]

give you a good example:
one of the parts for assassins are defencive skills, like a blind skill after you hit a lead attack and off hand attack [you can still use a dual hand after this skill too]. Your character talks to instructor ng after he gives you the skills and tell him you want to go to the dojo. Here, you have to last for 2 minutes with 2 warriorish guys on you, you can stop them by hiting them down to 1/4 or so health[do that to both and the timer stops]

and you get 50 gold per completed part so, just getting the skills and leaving is alright.. but it's so easy and you'll get at least a total of 300 gold in the end

I think the balance of gold for doing quests might just be a little low. I'd like to think that you could at least average one new skill for every quest you do, meaning that the gold rewards should probably be pretty close to 1k (since most of the skills you buy will cost that much).

I own Prophecies and have been attempting to gather skills by taking my Factions character there and doing some skill quests. Unfortunately, it seems most of these skill-giving quests are unavailable, especially in the Northern Shiverpeaks. Anyone else having this problem? Am I just missing prerequisite quests, or is it designed such that I can't do this?

Actually you can't do any missions or quests before LA with canthan characters

Problem is, with such high rewards, Fissure Armor (assuming a player would want one) would be much easier to accomplish.

Dammit. Oh well. At the very least, my run to Ascalon City might prove helpful during a holiday event. I suppose this means I can buy them with no regerets, but I'll be pissed if this lockdown gets removed in a patch.

FYI it seems that Canthans are also unable to do Ascalon Settlement and The Last Hog, both of which give skills.

There is a way to get a few more skills. Go have a talk with Instructor Ng and do his training quests. Those will award you with new skills for both of your profesions. At least enough to get you a bit better situated.

Beyond that... yeah, gotta buy them. Just don't get all crazy with it. Just look at all the ones that are available, and buy the ones you need the most first.

You can skip the training by talking to Togo. You'll get the skills anyhow and be lvl 2 automaticly, saves you a lot of time. I did this with all professions to get some new skills. After you get the quest to get your insignia, you'll get a lot of skills for free. I only played through the whole starter island with a Rt/A to buy all the usefull skills for those 2 professions, so I have them unlocked for PvP. I'd rather use balthazar faction to unlock eliteskills first.

Well... I have to agree that there isn't enough money for skills anymore. Three solutions I've come up with are:

1. A-net could double the amount of money from the quests that are scattered all over the place.

2. A-net could reduce the maximum price of skills from 1K down to 750g each.

Or...

3. A-net could be really nice and could allow you to trade your Imperial Commendations to the skill trainers. I'd gladly trade 2 or possibly even 3 commendations for a free skill from the trainer.

I vote for #3.
