Red face Charting the forest, it won't let me in

I've already charted the Jade Isles, now I'm trying to do the forest. I haven't declared allegience to either side yes. I've done Arborstone, and am trying to get to Ferndale, but they won't let me in unless I'm Kurzick. How do I get in to keep exploring?

Do I need to swear allegience to the Kurzicks? If so, where do I go to do that?

Currently I have about 2k Kurzick faction, and 7k Luxon faction. Do I need to get rid of Luxon so I can join Kurzick? Or does having 10k faction make a difference?

Thanks for help,
Don

You don't need to join the kurzicks, or have any kurzick faction to finish that quest. Once you have done the battle in the sewers quest, you're able to pick a side. Having this ability opens both Cavalon and House zu Heltzer to you. Goto HzH and exit from the east portal, should put you in Ferndale. If you've already done the battle quest, then I'm not sure.

What is that quest? I don't remember if I did or not. If not, where do I get it?
The exit to ferndale is closed, which is why I can't go there, I'm in HzH.
Thanks

You should be able to get out of House without completing Befriending the Kurzicks - I know I explored every area on the Kurzick side doing all of the quests until I finally built up 10k Kurzick. You won't get the quest to get into Eternal Grove until you do Befriending, but as long as you have done To House zu Heltzer (from Jaime in Maatu Keep) and accepted the reward, you should be able to get out...

No, who do I accept reward from, Jaime has no"!", so I must have already done it, and gotten reward. Is there another quest I may have missed? I think I got them all.
Thanks

Ok, in semi-order. You did Arborstone, you then did Convocation that takes you to Boreas Seabed. Then you do some battle in the sewers stuff leading to Sunjiang District. After completing Sunjiang District mission it takes you back to Maatu Keep. Jaime has To Cavalon, and To House zu Heltzer. House zu Heltzer is completed by talking to the head of the house (can't remember his name) and he gives you Befriending the Kurzicks. At this point, you should be able to leave to Ferndale. I'm not sure what exactly the criteria are for opening the gate, but if you have Befriending the Kurzicks on your quest log (or finished) you should be able to exit.

You MAY have to have more Kurzick faction than Luxon, I cannot tell you for sure. I was always drained to 0/0 at that point.

I really hate how Anet has this game setup. TOO many people think they are restricted to one side, this confusion is perpetuated by being in an alliance with a particular faction. Being in an alliance, doing a befriending quest, having more faction for one Faction over another - nothing restricts you from exploring every area in the entire game EXCEPT not doing all of the Primary quests. At the point where you get to Maatu Keep and talk to Jaime, this is where the communication breakdown happens. Many people think once you do "To Cavalon" you can not do "To House zu Heltzer" - but you can. You can follow the storylines on both sides. I've done all missions, quests, have their 15k armor, and explored 100% all Luxon territory, but I am a Kurzick, my alliance is Kurzick. With the same character I've also explored 100%, and done all the missions/quests on the Kurzick side, not a problem.

Simple rule to play by: If you finish a primary quest and are not at a mission spot, there IS another primary quest in that exact same room. If you finish a primary quest and end up at a mission spot, doing the mission will take you to the area with the next Primary quest. Gates are locked to force people to follow this simple rule, so if you can not get somewhere then you missed a Primary quest. If you are Kurzick and cannot explore the Luxon side, you missed the Primary quest to do so. Etc, etc.

Yeah, so many people will say "I'm a Luxon, I'm a Kurzick, GTFO you Luxon, etc. etc." You can't BE a Kurzick or a Luxon in the game, you can only help out a side. You're like a mercenary than anything else.

I don't get all the discrimination and insults about how much "the other side" sucks. What are you going to do when you finish the short, short game? Just stop playing out of spite, because you hate the other Faction too much to do the remaining quests?

I was wondering, if my guild is alegned Kurzick and i want one char to be Kurzick and the other to be Luxon, will this affect my gameplay? Like, not being able to become Luxon, etc.?
If your guild is aligned with one side, the only thing that means is that you can only do alliance battles for that side. Plus, you can only buy favor for your alliance with that faction (in hopes of accumulating enough favor to control a town).

As far as your character being aligned to one side or another, the only thing that really matters is as I mentioned it before. If you have more favor for one side over the other, then you can deal with that faction. Otherwise, they will ignore you. You can temporarily "align" with one side by acquiring faction for that side. Then, you can easily "align" yourself with the other side by doing quests for the other side. A common practice would be to to get faction for one side to get either favor your your alliance or jade/amber if you're not interesting in controlling a town, then get faction for the other side to only get jade/amber. As I warned before, spend all your faction for one side before gaining faction for another side because you lose faction from both side when you redeem faction.

I figured it out. I hadn't taken battle under city quest from the emperors hand in Kaineng. After I did those, it all opened up.
Thanks all for help.
