... dunno in what context, but at your normal lvl without a dedicated lvl 20 runner its a very difficult mission. Once it was rewarded only 500 xp, they improved the reward for it, because it proves so difficult...

Its not difficult to finish the quest (kill Galrath), but getting to him is the challenge.

With a dedicated runner or when leaving from fisherman have, its not a problem at all...

It is a difficult mission to do at the time you get it. At around level 17 or 18 it isn't too tough at all. Best thing to do is start from Temple of Ages.

Galrath is very easy. There are only two spots that cause consistant difficulty for people. Both are within the Kessex peak zone. There are a bunch of mobs of pinesouls and forest minotaurs that cause problems usually. The second is right at the peak before Galrath where all the Verata's are.

One easy way to do that last section is to just use your henchies as cannon fodder and take a quick hairpin turn up towards Galrath. Some of the henchies will die, but you will usually have a couple left or even just yourself to take out the bandits and galrath.

Not really, a ranger (subclass) runner can do it also, though the Fog Nightmares and Reed stalkers at the entrance of Kessex peak can be troublesome sometimes

Ideal is a R/mo or M/r with spell breaker and running skills

as for killing Galrath , just pull him into the verata mobs, and they do the job..

To get back to the original question (as to why people consider it not being worth doing):

First, as mentioned, it's relatively difficult. But worse than the difficulty is the time it takes. You get the quest in Lion's Arch. The way from there to the target is very far, it can easily take hours just to get there. Of course there are outposts on the way where you can take a break, the Temple of Ages was already mentioned, for example. Those are not stations if you just follow the main course of the game, though (doing missions and primary quests only), so people may consider it an unneccessary detour.

As you're playing the game for the first time, you shouldn't listen to people telling you what is worth doing and what isn't. Finding that out yourself is a huge part of the fun of the game, imho.

It also helps you clear off about 3% of the map that you normally would never touch.

4k is over 25% of a cycle for a skill point at level 20. It takes you to a really scenic area of Tyria. You get to see the floating castle!!!

More than enough reason for me to do this quest.

And I, too, remember when this quest was only worth 500XP.

Another nice trick for the quest (and avoiding all the verata mobs) is to have a necro with consume corpse or necrotic transversal.

When you get up to his area, you can always pull a mob of the bandits from south east of Galrath. Kill them, warp up to that group and avoid the verata mobs all together.

Although if you take on Galrath yourself as a necro, depending on your skills he can be a tough kill. I went at him with my standard Blood spike and was unable to kill him because of his healing sig. :ashamed:

N/Me - bring Diversion + Wastrel's Worry = dead Galrath.

I'd say it's a fun quest and definitely worth doing. Anyone who says it's not is looking for something other than just playing the game for fun. Will you get rich or pick up some amazing new skill? Probably not. But with a good group it's a fun run. I've done it even after I'd already completed the quest just for the fun of it.

Find a group of assassin wanting to do it, tell them all to take spells which allow them to teleport to a foes locaiton, or atleast an allies location. Let them port up to the bandits near glarath, and watch them assassinate him mercilessly.

this is indeed the main reason why not to do it. But as mentioned above: the scenery is worth it, and it will probably bring you to temple of ages, which is a place you will probably miss when not doing galrath... and THATS the place to be when you have favor...

I did this mission yesterday. When I started, I were a R/E lvl 13. I did it alone with Henchies, because ppl didn't want to do the Quest with me. Well I finished the Quest after 3 hours and at that time I were lvl 14, got my 4000 Exp and ended up lvl 15
And yes I died a lot of time, most of the time I had the death penalty of 60 %
When doing the Quest DONOT attack the horsemen and hellhounds in the Black Curtain or any creature unless you do wanna die. And if you do wanna attack them be prepare of the other 10 hellhounds, wraith etc. that is coming at you at the same time..-

Honestly, if you're patient, you can solo this yourself without any henchmen or help.

You can deal with almost everyone using Life Siphon and/or Life Transfer and kiting.

For Galrath, the key is timing when he'll use his healing signet and using Diversion to blank it out. Wastrel's should do the rest of the damage for you. Just don't forget to kite to make sure he doesn't land a ton of blows on you.
