Default Alliance Rules

Basically this is what happened:

One of the other alliances used alliance chat to try sell a weapon and the Lead Guild started getting upset about it sayin WTS spam should be kept out, personally i dont see a prob if u ask once then handle any corresponding messages through whisper because my stance is if im in need of a weapon and someone in the alliance has it I can get it quicker and likewise if someone needs a weapon occasionally i may have something someone needs but hasnt got round to searching for yet.

In the end it started getting a bit heated and egos started to show with messages such as "OUR ALLIANCE OUR RULES" and "if u dont like it u can leave", now none of these messages were from the leader but the blatent disrespect and lookin down on the other guilds has made me question whether this is a place I would want to stay with my guild. A lil bit later the A.Leader warned them and said if it happens again he will boot em sorry but i reckon that some of his officers pressured him because a lil bit lata they had been kicked anyway..

After the event today I was wondering what other guilds have as rules for their alliance? And how is it handled?

Hah, to be honest there's enough WTS WTB badly spelled crap all over local chat without bombarding alliance chat with it too. Occassionally sending a message like:

"Anyone need this green I picked up, or shall I sell it?"

Is probably ok, but spamming alliance chat with:

"WTB some crappy item plz plz kkthx"

will probably make you rather unpopular.

Meh...sometimes you get this:

WTS: Starter sword 50k
oops wrong channel

Most of the times they intended to do that, which does make things rather annoying.

lol.. starter sword?

yea i can understand if it becomes a problem but our alliance chat is usually silent like guild chat til my officers start coming on.. its a real shame aswell because opening should encourage talking but i think people are afraid to use it or get told to use guild chat for that..

It's a fine line. You want the entire alliance to get to know one another, yet you don't want it to get so chitchatty that people are forced to turn off alliance chat.

I'm trying mostly to do my announcements for missions/quests, Q&A, etc, over alliance, but most responses to such, I will whisper or use guild chat, depending.

There are some Chatty Cathys around who enjoy the spotlight, such as filling the AC with the following inane nothingness:

Alliance Member: ?
Alliance Member: oh
Alliance Member: ok
Alliance Member: lol

I would probably say something (in whisper) if it's one of my own guildies. If it's another guild, I'll hold my tongue usually.

our alliance chat is going pretty good. its mainly used for organizing stuff, missionhelps, random alliance battles and w/e else. we dont have any that really try to use it as trade channel, just someone asking if someone is interested in item x, which would be given away for free, though. besides of that, people use it to greet others, sometimes have a random chat. if someone does actualyl decide to trade an item, or spams it with crap, i whisper them, no matter which guild it is, because most used to be in one guild that split up into 4 guilds. so we basically know eachother anyways. if the person wouldnt stop, id let the other officers of the guild know, or the leader if he is there.

but in general - no problem with alliance chat, ive expected it to be really horrible so id have it turned off more often than all :P but nah - common sense does the job.

I was going to say the same thing, but just as I got ready to post I realized who I was quoting (Hey!)

WTS/WTB on alliance would equal an instant channel turn off if I were just a member, but officers/leaders cannot just turn off the channel. Depending on how your guild is run, a friendly warning/reminder about alliance chat use should be more than enough. That is, IF there were rules about its use that everyone had access to. It's not really fair to scold/punish someone based on unknown rules, so alliance guild leaders should come together and create rules and make sure everyone knows of their existence.

But, yeah Sof... the message length in GW is short enough, when people shorten it even more to increase the spammage... Rubs me a little bit raw

Haha. The breakup of the TC alliance was over alliance chat and the leader of TC not putting up with crappy (your mama etc..) jokes in alliance chats. So apon bootage of the offending guild after a heated debate, the rest of the guilds all fell out one after the other to form the KEYS alliance. Now with the recent update of all-member chat in the alliance channel it's a free for all, but we all agree, no trade spamming in the AC!

Alliance chat is opening slowly for us (I'm not sure everyone knows it's available to be honest).

It's mostly used for announcing when you log on/off and group forming for missions/PvP etc.
