They drop anywhere swords drop. You can probably buy one for less than 1k if you hang out in Lions Arch or Droknars for a bit.

I just realized I've never had any kind of weapon mod drop at all ever. And I've been playing for about a year. That's one thing I hate about GW is that some drops are all uber rare and you can never find one. And I mean mods aren't even all the great, it'd be easyer to just go buy an already moded weapon.

weapon mods don't drop by themselves. you have to salvage them from weapon drops you get.

Oh, well that explains it. You could've been more clear on that. You just made it sound like the drop by themselves in your other post.

Pretty much. If you had used an expert salvage kit on that ebon longsword, you would probably have gotten the ebon hilt from it, which you could then attach to another sword. (sometimes you get salvage materials instead of the weapon mod)

You've been playing for a year, and you never knew weapon mods dont drop?

Anyways, I havent tried this out, but salvaging the shocking plasma blade should get you a shocking sword hilt.

That's what I thought, but it sounded like they did from Mournblades post.

Come one now. That is sort of misleading. So I just figured it was like black dye. Very rare, and has never dropped for me.

I'm pretty sure collector items are unsalvagable for pretty much this reason - so that things like the plasma blade don't make it easy to get the mod you want. Somewhat irritating, in that the right elemental mod (or lack of it) can make (or break) a build.
