Default Quest: Reversing the Skales

I found this while doing some quick research into a quest that 'infected' an area on me last night

Quote:
Quest: Reversing the Scales
- Quest difficulty: Moderate
- Received in: North Kryta Province
- Received from: Captain Greywind
- Classes restrictions: None
- Walkthrough: Talk to Captain Greywind in the Ascalon Settlement in North
Kryta Province. Map travel over to the Gates of Kryta outpost and find a
group or recruit henchmen. (It's easier to get to the destination of this
quest from here.). Get a party together and venture out into Scoundrel's
rise. Follow the path Northeast to the beach, then head back west. You
will soon come across a fair amount of Bog Scales. Keep on heading west
until you come across Executioners and an undead BOSS - unsure of name.
Kill them all, then report back to Captain Greywind in the Ascalon
Settlement in North Kryta Province for your reward.
- Reward: 500 XP, Focus Item (Energy +8, req. 6 Healing Prayers), Smiting
Rod (Light Dmg 5-10, req. 6 Smiting Prayers)
- Additional quests unlocked: None
Now with a group of friends this would be a simple matter. However, with henchies this is just not friendly. The executioners are lvl 18 hammer warriors. My poor monk hench got turned into paste before I could blink (level 10 coming out of Gates of Kryta).
Once the executioners aggro on you they will follow a pre-set route, walking until the Necrid Horseman boss gallops by heading towards the GoK zone point.

I was on my 19 E/Mo and the best solution I had for 3x 18 hammer warrior executioners was to let the hench fighter and brawler take aggro, the mes/cultist drop conditions while I lobbed a meteor storm+fireball+meteor. Lots of dead henchies, but I lived which was the important thing.
The boss on his own with no bodies around to use (because you ambush him elsewhere, or use the bodies yourself), is not too tough. Still, he's a lvl 18 necro so be prepared.

At the point where you can see the executioners start to walk towards you and you can see Lord Timot's name while holding CTRL, just start walking backwards for a ways. The executioners will stop at certain point for awhile and Lord Timot will pass them, so you can wait for him to come to you. Just can't take too long on killing him because, if I remember it correctly, the executioners do continue their walk after hanging around in that spot long enough.

They do indeed only hang around for a short while before continuing their plodding along the route.

Yeah, I had a recollection of them attacking my henchie group after Lord Timot had died.

This is one quest I always put aside and wait until I'm level 20 and have a few elites to choose from. It's dirt easy at that point. Sometimes I've succeeded when I do it earlier, at lower levels, but it's usually a bloodbath, or I fail, and the frustration isn't worth it. There are a few quests like this that I ignore until I'm 20.

Best way to do it is before going after Timot, clear the area of the mergoyle first. If you fight timot and lose he will continue marching on the Gates of Kryta. If he gets there and goes through the portal you have to rezone.

You are an ele? Try blinding flash. That will help hold the executioners at bay. Also look at gale or other air magic or water magic skills to slow, kd or blind the enemy.

Thanks Cherno, I've beaten it but just giving my take/tips because I found it a tough one that caught me by surprise.

Or you can simply buy it at Grendich Courthouse. Or wait till you get to the desert, where the skill is a quest reward.

Has anyone tried running all the way back to the Gates of Kryta area and waiting for him to wander that way? Do the executioner's follow the ENTIRE way?
