Default Why Are People So Ignorant? Thirsty River Misconceptions...

So why are people so ignorant with regards to the Thirsty River mission? Everytime I advertise that I am soloing the mission, there is always 1-2+ people that decide it's necessary for them to contradict me. They proceed to tell me, "u cant run the mission nEwB!!1! stop trying to scam people noob!!"

Are there really that many people that think Thirsty River is not soloable? I mean, just sit there in town for 5 minutes and you will see someone advertising to solo the mission. Use some common sense and think: are there really this many scammers on this 1 mission. Obviously the mission IS SOLOABLE without the help of a group.

So does anyone know why so many people out there feel this mission is not soloable? There are guides out there detailing each and every step of the mission. And also, some guy was trying to tell me that 1k is the price of soloing Thirsty River. As far as I know, he is incorrect because within 15 minutes, there were 4 people who advertised 5k each person.

Hopefully this clears it up for anyone who still believes Thirsty River is not soloable. It is indeed VERY soloable and not difficult with some practice. I don't have time to post a build, but even if I did it takes careful instruction and observations to do it. Still don't believe it's soloable? Fork up 5k and watch someone do it. Various builds are available over the internet which can be found with some searching. I'm just sick and tired of all these people telling me I CAN'T do something that I do all the time.

It's a matter of semantics. You say "run" in the same way people would get a run to Droknar's Forge, which involves running past everything. That's different from "soloing" in some people's minds.

Because they can't do it, and because they regard themselves as supreme w/mo overlord of the universe, obviously you can't either. Some people just won't listen, and some of them might just be saying you can't so that theyll get a free trip if you go and prove it to them :P

I will admit, in my limite knowledge of warriors and iway, I was probably one of the people who pmed you. I've seen it done since and I no longer say anything to people advertising the same...

5k?? So, people are willing to 'farm' for hours to get those 5k to spend on one of the shortest missions in the game?

I just learned this in psychology class...this is a very typical child's way of thinking, just because they can't do it, they think everybody else can't do it either.

5k may seem a lot to some, but at the same time seem like pocket change to others. Take 1 ecto for example. Current price is going for about 6.5k each (+/-). 1 piece of Droks armor isnt too far off from 5k either.

But for the most part, even after I clarify that I am "Soloing" the mission (not "Running"), they still sit there in disbelief. They seem to 'know' what I can and can't do. It's starting to become extremely annoying and really screws things up, because some people will believe them and leave my group.

So does anyone know where the 1k a run statement came from?

If I can't beat the mission with 6 people you can't do it with 1!

Yeah, that's how it is out there =/

Funny thing is...

You can easily beat it as a level 1 with 5 henchmen.

the cost is 4-5k because thats what people will pay lol.

Usually farmers require some interaction with the people to get full bonus time getting levels of doing it.

Even the best W/Mos doing it will commonly ask the people to die for his IWAY uysage before tackling the monk boss. Some even ask the runnee's to help attack and kill that boss...

Ive never heard of using IWAY build to solo thirsty river. Seems somewhat less effective though, because once your group dies you need to take time to res them for payment.

The only time I ask people to come help kill, is the LAST boss of each section, that way we dont have to wait for me to singlehandedly take out the boss. It's not impossible, it's just time consuming. Taking out the ele boss takes me 1-2 minutes solo, but with my group it can be shortened to 30 seconds. So I just ask them to come help if they are bored of just sitting around. Asking your group to help kill the boss they need to pay after seems a bit strange to me. The only boss people struggle with is monk boss, so it's like paying 5k to someone that makes you fight like any other group.

And I'm surprised by the number of scammers these days. In 3 runs today, i had 3 people leave. All of them just capped whatever skill they needed and left, no payment to me. I have no problem with people capping skills, but if thats ALL they want to do, it just cheated me out of a paying customer. Can anyone think of a way to counter the constant skill cap scam? And half of the people i ran today had never seen someone run the mission...quite surprising to me.

I think that part of the problem was back in the day MM's used to charge 5k to "solo" the mission.

I actually took a guy up on it and after we were in he wanted us all to kill everything for his minions and thenhelp him kill the priests, bosses, and difficult groups...Not really worth paying someone to "solo" it when they aren't actually doing what they said they would. Incidentally, he was mad when the most of the party did not want to pay him (I did pay because we never would have passed the mission with outo him...too many lvl 10 and under)

So in the end lots of people got jaded, and now think it is not soloable. Unfortunate, but true...You just need to come up with a good, clear, nonconfrontational way to let people know that it is possible when you get griefers.

No idea what to do with the capper/leavers other than letting people know that Elona is MUCH easier to cap.

I felt like some of your griefers when I saw how much people are charging for a run from Ascalon to Sanctum now-a-days (10K!). I still don't get why it costs so much. The time is obviously a big investment, but it is really an easy run (other than getting past the Ice Golems that are between Yak's and the Ice cave).

Perhaps ask them to pay half up front or 2k or something, if you don't complete you refund. If they went in to just cap a skill then leave then at least they paid for it.

well, *you* can beat it at level 1 with 5 henchmen, and potentially they could too given enough failures with pugs, but they'd rather spend their time bitching about spending 5k on it...right? wrong?
