If you get a team that goofs off and will not listen, stop and try to get everyone on the same page, or kill the mission.

I am a E/N using Air primary.

This is the way I did it as well.I would watch the cutscene as to what the Vizer has to say as most skip it if more would watch the cutsecene then maybe they get an idea on what to do.When havieng a hard time with this mission and getting fustrated take a break go PvP or farm this is what I do.

I don't even bother with PUGs, if i can't get with some of my friends, i just do it with bots... ive done every mission except aurora glade with bots because i can't stand PUGs. I got the bonus in THK done too with bots. Heck, i even did Hell's Precipice in 2 tries with bots (i have a pic if no one believes me). THK, thirsty, elona, abbadon's, ring of fire, all easily doable with bots.

I don't have any real strategies, i just find that you are more likely to beat the mission with bots than with PUGs, and you don't have to sit there spamming "LFG" or try to communicate strategies.

For bonuses, i would recommend human groups, but if you just want to finish the mission, go for the bots.

get a minion master on your team. the first 3 characters i went through the mission like a breeze. my minion master, my 4th, it was tricky. i just helped a guildy do it the other day and WOW it is real difficult. but minion master ftw.

oh and zipp!, you can change your secondary as often as you'd like.

Every time of done this mission ive seen guilds helping out one of there people beat it, and join the group. Today i beat it with MKA and was a walk in the park. I dont see why people have such a tough time.

I get my guildies through Thunderhead by stance tanking with a torch. The trick is, I'm not a stance tank

What I do is bring my Ele and buff myself up with the enchantments - Armor of Earth, Aura of Restoration, Earth Attunement, and of course Obsidian Flesh. Then, I drop down wards and watch the Jade Armors use Wild Blow in a futile attempt to take away my defenses I do the above with an E/Mo, even though I have yet to use Rebirth - the only Monk skill I ever bring - on a Thunderwalk.

And if you want to know how a recent foray into Thunderhead Keep turned out for me and a guildie, check out http://www.houndsofcreegus.com/forum...topic.php?t=56 on the Hounds of Creegus forums

where-as I just take henchmen....

I can never be bothered to find Groups in PvE, so just grab the henchies and go. I've successfuly completed every mission in the game with 'em.

Easiest way to Complete Thunderhead Keep = Take Henchies, co-ordinate them they way you want, not the way random PUG co-ordinate themselves, and you will do it easily.

Thumbs up

Well, thanks everyone!

I, like many other contributers to this thread, have been having a really torrid time of it with Thunderdead Keep(dieing).

I am admittedly somewhat of the noobish persuasion, and THK was almost enough for me to abandon my W/Mo (i know, i know).

Taken a couple of weeks off to farm Grenth's FP and SF. Played wiv me Monk a bit (got him as far as the desert).

Started up a new Ele too (just to genderbend a bit).

But now, reading this massive and (mostly) informative thread,

Kedric's gonna pwn tha Keep!

...and he's gonna hench it

We did the Thunderhead the other day. I still needed my mesmer to get through, and as you know Mesmers still seem to be a very unpopulair class for PUG's. After advertising my Mesmer abilities for over an hour i got 2 guildies (2 Necro's) to help me. We decided to do thunderhead as a minion factory group. (2 saccers, 2 ressers/rezmers, 2 minion masters, a general Monk and a ranger for pulling and widowing. Needles to say is that we ruled the thunderhead keep, the MF wasnt necesarry for the way to the keep, but after we arrived there we started a small army of horrors and fiends and defended at the top of the stairs. For a few screenshots see Fred Kiwi's post (my guildie with the plan) http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...d.php?t=113419

I would advise anyone attempting this mission for the zillionth time to give the Minion Factory team a chance, it takes a little longer, but succes garanteed.

Default Tadaa!

Yea, and veriliy it was so.

For on the attempt of eight did go Kedric into the Keep of Thunderheads and victorious was he.

And hench it did he NOT, for indeed was he pulled by a PUG the instant he arrived.

Danish were they, and also Dutch; zero was the amount of common tongue they shared. And calling and pinging and pointing was the order of the day.

And it came to pass that victory was theirs, and the dawn did finally shine on the Camp of embers.

Much rejoicing and jubillation was had and many a celebratory troll did Kedrik twat.

Many thanks to thee, oh multitalented multinational PUG for surely thy name art blessed.

oh, and they had a kick-ass minion master....

I don't understand why on earth you go with ppl on this mission. There is no way to do it with a random team even with experienced ppl, there will be at least one who will not understand and will die. Go with hencies and don't go MM if you are a Necro as primary, go Bloodspiker.

Well, I read beforehand how difficult the Thunderhead Keep mission was and last night I tried it for the first time and the PUG group I was in did pretty well, but then fell apart about 1/2 way through defending the keep. We were doing such a good job at focusing in on one target at a time but then caller targeted a boss and then all the minions started over running us and then there was chaos and shortly thereafter death insued. Ugh. Thought that I'd give it a second go around this afternoon and after we started I could tell we were doomed. We had 3 warriors, 3 monks and 2 elementalists. One warrior kept charging groups without waiting on casters to rest and regain energy. He did stop after a bit of me yelling at him though. There was some arguing on strategy on whether to man the catapults or simply fight them when they came up the stairs. We did a bit of both though I guess. Catapults were used early on when defending, but as the white mantle, jade guys and mersaat came in we just defended the top. With about 5 minutes left 2 guys dropped out but fortunately the 6 of us hung in there and beat it. It was tough but we did it.

The only hard part for the mission is finding a good group.

NEVER is not even close to acurate..

I've completed this 5x+ with PUG groups, I told them I was leading, advertised in the channel I would lead the group, everyone did what I said, boom completed. Its very eazy..

I've probably only lost it 5x.. and every other time I've completed it with guildies.. but I've even done it with one guildie, myself and pugs..

This goes without saying for any mission unless you got 4 lv 20 w/mo taking on The Great Wall... teamwork is the key to every mission. Without teamwork, its going to be hard, the chances of failure are high. I know all my failed attempts at THK were because of the group I was in. I followed called targets, I knew my mesmer was no tank so I hung back casting backfire and interupts, empathy and phantasm. We would have people run on ahead, people would drop or just stop moving like they silently expected a free run. 99% of the time I would get to the final part after the cutscene and it would all fall apart. People would run this way and that, firing balistas at nothing....

Now the last group I got into was the one I had success with. Everyone listened, no one dropped. We all did our part the best we could and wow was that mission a lot of FUN! And rather easy to, none of us died even once that I remember. Success depends on leadership and teamwork... without either, good luck, your going to need it.

Well, sorry to hear that you haven't had any luck with PUG. My 2nd try I finished mission (both times with PUG) so perhaps I got lucky. I will say this though, the first time I tried it we had a MM and at any given time he had about a dozen minions and being a warrior I have to say all those minions were a royal pain in my ass. The kept getting in my way and cutting me off. I felt useless half the time because of it.

Also, I'm not sure if this is true or if it just seemed that way, but when the MM had all those minions running around on the screen + our team + all the enemy etc, it seemed like my old 1GHZ AMD computer (with a rather janky 128mb graphics card) kept slow up and lagging. Anyone else get this? If this is true then my computer and MM players simply do not get along very well.

I never lag with an MM around and since I'm a ranged attacker, those minions do awsome work at keeping the enemy from breaking through to me.

I remember when I first tried to do this mission and failed a couple times. Now I think it is actually one of the easier ones out there, including the bonus.

The key really is the group you go with, and their ability to listen.

A few tips:

Have the monk talk to the king at the beginning.

After clearing the town of the enemy forces, and openeing that side gate, let the monk who talked to the king go in before anyone else. It helps provide a chance that the kind will stay with the monk.

When you get into the keep, stick to the right, work your way around up to the center, down the right stairs and take out boss near last.

Activate the bonus

Ignore the catapults if you don't really need them.

This is the most important part:
Camp the king in the upper center of the keep. It is much much easier to deal with the mobs if they have to come through and bottleneck on the stairs.

Have ranger lay traps, eles and necros deal dmg, monk keeps the king healed.

Do bring interrupts for the mursaat bosses

At some point the king will probably move down a little. Just go with him, keep him healed and keep going.

Don't be in a rush to run out for loot. There will be a number of lulls where you can even leave the keep to get the usual chest that is out there.

The hard part is getting everyone in the party to understand and work together, and if nothing else in the mission is understood, make sure they understand to camp the king.
