Default Farming the Icy Dragon Sword

Sup guys, I just joined this forum and I've already learned a bunch. One question I have in particular, though. Where is the best place to farm for an Icy Dragon Sword? I have a max Fiery DS for my warrior, and I'd like to get a clean Icy one as well without paying the 20k. I've seen people farming out of Granite Citadel for it, is that the best area? Also, how sparse of a drop is it? Should I just knuckle down and pay the 20k?

Thanks in advance for the input. I have one ascended E/Mo20 and a lvl 18 Warrior in the desert right now.

It only drops @ mineral springs, the cave with the ice imps..

Drop rate sucks at the moment though

Mineral Springs out from Granite Citadel isn't the best area for IDS - it's the ONLY area.

The drop rate of the IDS isn't good (to put it nicely). Went there twice yesterday, killed lots of ice imps and no IDS. The only good things I got from the trip to the cave were two elite skills.

I've done at least 15 IDS runs lately and I haven't found one yet. :/

Been there a few times to cap elites for my different chars... usually finish the trips by saying 'hi' to the lil imps... so far, no IDS.

I haven't seen an IDS drop in ages. I got one on my first trip and another a little later on. But when I'd go with 5 man teams early on, one would always drop for someone. That hasn't been the case lately. You'd think the prices would go up, but they haven't. I guess supply is still greater than demand.

Okay, thanks for the info. I suppose I'll go on a few farming runs, see what I can find. I hear there's nice stuff out there anyways...

Sorry to disappoint you but the drops there are horrible, the only decent drop is the IDS and it's incredibly rare, haven't gotten one in 5 complete runs. So, I would suggest farming it only if you enjoy farming and have fun while farming, if you're only farming for gold or the IDS, you're mostly wasting your time IMO, unless you're really lucky. It's much faster to do 10 griffon runs, get the 20k and buy one, as griffon runs are much shorter and have better drops.

go up the back side (paths to the right)...the giants up on the hill by the res point often drop gold hammers...typically giant slayer's hammers with pretty good reqs....4 for me in 10 or so runs

I went on my first run tonight with 7 henchies just to get up there...I killed my first imp and an IDS dropped, no shittin you. My heart stopped and I was just like =O holy shit. I know I'm one lucky SOB and yer all gonna hate me now. =P

Changing the subject slightly -- can one also get to that area through the Iron Mines mission, or is it closed off to the rest of the map like most missions are?

Yes it is closed off.
Libitina, you're and unbelievably lucky SOB... lol It hardly ever drops when you solo it, so with 7 henchmen, I can't believe it! Nice one. I wish I could get some of your luck. Since my luck sucks, I'll move on to solo farming FoW when we have the favor.

w/me

sever artery
desperation blow
dolyak signet
victory is mine{elite}
Watch Yourself
Healing signet
sprint
Elemental Resistance

I solo sometimes, got 4 ids in the last 3 days. idk, I guess im lucky

BTW, it may take 2-3 runs before You get a good spawn. Sometimes you get to the very end and find out that a bunch of birdies spawn w/ imps.

It is possible to do this even with 15% DP from the heretic near the first portal.

You may have to kill some of the giants before you try and run by the rest.

aswell, It takes some time get get the technique for killing ice golems and the trolls that sometimes spawn by imps

____
VS siege golems: watch out for rust, when it drops, spam healing signet only when you have dolyak up(mine is at 18sec), if you have imps near(right next to you, use desperation blow + sever+ ViM, then get back to the golem(no flesh)

vs mountain trolls: if they try to interupt one of your skills, use healing sig right after

Even if you have rust on, concentrate on killing the golem, once he's down, heal yourself all you want. Executioner's strike and the like work very well against them (I use an axe ). Same for the trolls, you shouldn't need to heal until you they are dead. You should be mostly be taking 0 damage, so don't worry too much about healing...pound away on those unwanted guests. If you have the Lieutenant Helm, Rust won't last as long.

Went on a 2 man farming (2 x W/Mo) exercise last night. Ran from Granite to the Ice cave without engaging in any combat on the way, which we were proud of.

The first mob of ice imps we fought outside the cave dropped an IDS. After many trips to Mineral Springs, mainly for infusing armour, I've only picked up two IDS. Now my warrior finally has one, first one I gave away, I think I'll give this up and explore other areas.

The drops seem to have dried up for me in the cave, just 1 drop in 10 runs. I luckily managed to farm 5 IDS during wintersday. The other bonus of the run is of course the infusion. I just had to get my Grenth horns and Pumpkin crown infused.

Ditto.

I say you're time is better spent farming Griffons or something else to make the money to just buy one. Should be able to find one for cheaper then 20K I'd bet..
