Default 'To Tahnnakai Temple' quest - changed?

I've done this a few times on other chars, and each time we've always followed the method detailed at GuildWiki: clear the mobs out first, then fetch Mhenlo, but don't talk to him until he's at the location Togo & Nika will spawn.

Tried it again today: cleared mobs, Mhenlo followed us down to where T & N spawn, we clicked on him, they spawned, but no Afflicted attacked. Instead Mhenlo ran off, and fought in a different direction (through several groups of Am Fah), back to Tahnnakai entrance! Then he calmly walked back to Togo et al, and then the dialog kicked in and the Afflicted attacked.

This happened twice in a row. Has it been 'fixed' so that you must talk to Mhenlo where he spawns at Tahnnakai entrance, rather than wait until he gets to Togo's spawn point? Or has it always been like this, and I'm hallucinating?

I have no idea if it's changed or not, but what's the point of using that method in the first place? It's not like the afflicted would attack when you are on your way there, or at least it hasn't been like that for me ever since Factions was released.

I always talked to him before as soon as he spawned outside the temple. Then go a different path and mehnlo walks off by himself without ever taking damage from enemies.

I've always killed the am fah and afflicted that he agros on the way with him, maybe he has to react to a fight at certain waypoints he's programed to in that quest?

Either way...theres no Reason at all to wait til he is at Togo's Area to try to talk to him...(killing the am fah and stuff on the way there is valid though - smart)

What would doing that even effect...???

Sure you see a "Togo" and "Nika" name greyed out on your screen alittle eariler (noting that they spawned and are waiting for you)...But that doesn't effect anything.....

(BTw, Plushie Penguin, Mhenlo doesnt have to fight anything until the togo protecting part - Its pretty easy to just take out the 3 am fah groups he would have aggroed in getting there before hand.)

Most likely its just programming that that fixed in that upate where they said they fixed the quest. Where Mhenlo HAS to do his walk to Togo after you talk to him. But Like i said...it changes NOTHING about how the quest turns out...

You don't have to kill the afflicted, just kill the am fah then he will manage to do his godlike stroll off by himself through the afflicted without dying as long as you go the left way near lou of the knives.

I've always just folowed him after talking to him at temple when he spawns, never had to fight any aflicted on the way just the 2 little am fah groups. The one time I took a different route, Menhlo got ganked. Never had any issues with this quest at all. Never understood why everyone use 'tricks' when its just as easy/fast to walk with him? This quest is disgustingly easy, and usually its faster if I just leave from senji's with henchies as pugs nearly always fail on the way to the temple... Never understood this when you can solo run through all that...

And these "Tricks" dont really do anything.

Noone has YET answered what waiting to talk to him actually makes them think it does? Doesn't influence the quest at all..

Anyway, this quest has been nerfeds into being mindlessly easy as it is. Now the Afflicted "Groups" that attack Togo and Nika can hardly be called "Groups" as the "Groups" are merely 2 baddly paired afflicted. Just go to them, beat that 1 Afflicted group close to them....Then just wait...The NPCs there can literally kill the afflicted that then attack without you even stepping in now.

I guess for me it's always been 'better the devil you know' - I must have done it the Guildwiki way once, and just stuck to it on subsequent characters.

I'll just talk to Mhenlo at the start from now on - was just confused to watch him get all the way to T & N, then charge off in some odd direction, after never seeing him do it before!

I have had mhenlo do some odd things in this quest. The easiest time I have ever had was when something odd happened. Just fight with level 255 Nika and level 255 Togo. Makes the quest (and skill capping) really easy.

Edut-As whobitz says below, they do drop to level 20 once you get anywhere near them.

That has happend to me to several times. But by the time I get Nika and Togo within Radar distance, they drop to level 20. How did you manage to keep them in 255?

I just talk to Guard, Mhenlo, go to Nika, fight, talk to Togo, follow to Guard.

I'm pretty sure they always drop to level 20. Consider that the picture is outside the temple, not next to them.

It is a strange thing to see...Although it would be pretty sweet...I'd love to see a Death Blossom or Spirit Rift with 53 attribute points in it...

Not talking to him: will he then not agro the mobs?

I always do this quest by fighting my way up from the Keep, so the path is always clear in both directions anyway.
