Default 'The Deep' PUG friendly build - can kill Kanaxai in 20 seconds!

Okay, so fun fact, life steal is not normal damage. In fact, it bypasses Kanaxai's damage reduction (same with his aspects). This means theres no need to even bring a KD, which is a ton of fun.

And I got to thinking, how are some good ways to deal lots of life steal damage? Spamming enchants under the effects of Vampiric Spirit on an Air of Enchantment target? Nah...

Barbed Signet? Itll never fail against his Demonic Refuge... nah...

Oh, I know. Vampiric Touch / Vampiric Bite! Its a skill too so I can use it in the Aspect of Failure... oh, but how will I ever manage the energy...

Expertise.

Yes, I am actually suggesting Touch Rangers as the FOTM for The Deep PUGs. Allow me to explain -

Touch Rangers have a DPS of ~44. That means that nine touch rangers have a DPS of ~400 (level 28 enemies have a base of 640 HP). Kanaxai can heal 1000 health every 10 seconds, giving him an impressive 100 HPS (healing per second). He still takes 300 DPS, and with his 6,120 HP, should fall before OoB recharges twice.

Three touch rangers should be able to take out rooms 1, 2, and 4, while the 'if you are hit with an attack you are KDed' room might be a problem. For this reason, I suggest putting 3 monks in there (can never be too safe with a PUG build).

Oh, and since Im sure people will end up reading this post then wanting to try it, let me provide you with the proper Touch Ranger build: http://gwshack.us/1bccd

16 Expertise
12 Blood

Vampiric Bite, Vampiric Touch, Offering of Blood, Whirling Defense, Dodge, Throw Dirt, Plague Touch, Resurrection Signet

Vamp Gaze, and Life Siphon have their place, but its not here.

Well, would anyone like to try this with me? I know it can get out of the first room, and I see no area being difficult beyond that other then (possibly) the aspect with the swarms of e-draining enemies.

Yeah, I decided it would be best to drop a monk and a toucher for 2 competent fire ele's for certain parts, like the Aspect of Fear. Currently the build is 2x Monks 2x Renewal Nukers 8x Touch Rangers.

What do you mean you dont have access to "OB"?

I don't have access to an area to cap Offering of Blood. Though my Ranger is Tyrian I went straight to LA and crossed over to Cantha. I've cleared most of Cantha with my Ranger, but he can't access the higher areas in Tyria to cap OB.

While interesting from a purely theoretical approach this is the kind of build that makes people worse players. It is not like the deep is that hard to begin with. Gl making it work... it won't be fast.

I don't think the point is to get better at doing it or to have something where you can actually manage to do it (meaning that you can't normally), I think the point is to see if it will work and how well it will work. It gets boring using the same exact builds to get through the exact same places. And personally I think even it fails miserably, it will be interesting to see the results and to determine where it fails.

BTW: I've seen that I can cap OB in Lornar's Pass. So I'll work on trying to do that if I can find the time.

People making new builds instead of using cookie-cutter ones makes them bad players? Care to explain how?

LOL, Touchers may be nooby, but he's trying to utilize them in a non-nooby way.

Not if I kick you.

Plus, lets honestly compare Touch Rangers to PVE trapping groups. Which one takes less skill. (hint: the answer is trappers)

Add that on with the fact that Ive been flamed many times before for even suggesting running something OTHER then a trapping group in Urgoz, and even if my build had an 'instant kill, ftw' button, I would still gladly use it in favor of the "WE NEED A 2ND MM PLZ" PUG groups whose ideas about party composition are tragically immutable.

Anyways, we can get an OoB capping group together. Lets say at 9CST tonight? PM me at Righteous Theory

Hi, I usually go with our regular 9 man group in The Deep, and we average 65-70 minute finish times. I usually monk with this group, and also do SS from time to time. I have two questions that I feel should be considered before attempting this group, and facing possible total wipe out at Kanaxai.

1. How are you gonig to overcome the total lack of energy your monks will have when they start HP spamming in the final Lair of Kanaxai (no SS = no BR)? Will you designate a Touchy as a BR? (BiP's are for spoiled monks)

2. When Kanaxai lays his beat down on you, how are you going to overcome the 180-240 damage you are going to receive + the degen? Seeing as Rangers don't have the armor that Tanks have.

Other than that, I don't see anything wrong with this build. It will definately be a slow run, but do-able.

No, I wont use a toucher as a BR, thats silly. The touchers can outheal the degen by a wide margin, monks only need worry about themselves and the eles. Throw Dirt and Protective Spirit will nueter Kanaxai.

I decided on a build that would have additional flexibility, and be far faster then what I originally proposed. Two Vampiric Spirit necros with RoF, Draw Conditions, or something of the like, and a Cultist's Fervor necro. The two Vampiric Spirit necros spam skills on the Cultist's Fervor necro (for free, due to the bug with Cultist's Fervor) to get the 59 DPS from 18 Blood Vampiric Spirit, while the Cultist's Fervor necro spams Jaundiced Gaze and Vampiric Gaze and the like.

This way requires only 3 necros, leaves their bars relatively open, and still hits 170 DPS - enough to overpower his healing should there be no enchant removal. With plentiful enchant removal you should be able to drop Kanaxai in <40 seconds (with just those three characters).

Alternatively there could be an Air of Enchantment monk (not even necessarily a smiter) and the 2x vamp necros could spam skills on whoever the Air is on. Thats 120 DPS, killing him in ~51 seconds.

Even a single Vampiric Spirit necro (59 dps) would be able to kill him in a reasonable amount of time, in the presence of enchant removal.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but this won't work. You'll still need some sort of knockdown skill to kill the aspects and Kanaxai. I just tried this with a few guildies, and we couldn't kill the aspect in the first room. He's health kept bouncing back to 80%. Plenty of damage, but no kill.

Nice idea though, with the mathematics and all. Maybe add some KD skill to every third touch-ranger? Keep trying. I'm sure you'll figure something out. Just trying to help. ^_^

Btw, when you do figure out how to do this, give me a whisp (Tamia Edge) and I'll join you on this adventure..
