Maybe somebody at THK got antsy and was afraid of disconnecting before completing the mission and thus losing all progress. Dunno... I can see that a little bit - although it is rude to say they'll let you explore and then change their mind at the last minute.

I think you gotta explore with hench. It is just mind numbingly dull for everyone else while you hug walls and they get no benefit unless they are interested too. People don't have patience - they piss and moan if everybody doesn't skip a cut scene, you can hardly be surprised nobody wants to hang out for a chunk of time while you uncover fog.

This is what makes the title so hard...

I've cleared Cantha, and I'm stuck at 97% on Tyria...
I know for the most part- what I need to discover...

The west border of the ring of fire mission area, and the entire bonus area for Dunes of Despair...

The Ring of fire mission isnt too bad since I can get out there with hench, but end up being wiped out by the lava imps with meteor shower T_T

But dunes.... Man... I'm still looking for a M/N with Rebirth and NT so I can run out there, map it all and try the bonus with no time limit....

There has been times where I needed to map something, and the party I was in didnt want to wait on me...
I'll admit that on more than one occasion I've run off from a fighting party to grab that last corner

Dunes can be done in three times with hench.

Do the mission and around 4 minutes before the end you have got everything and have the time to go exploring.

thk is actually a breeze with henchies, did it tonight (at least as a ranger). 100% map of the area in around 1-1.5 hr, just camp the king and slaughter them as they come. I didnt even use the bonus trick with hiding.
still need to do dod though, so this is likely how I'll do it, but I'm going to try another way first before actually repeating 3 times... for goodness sakes I've already even completed the bonus. 96% and counting.

We did that bonus with all the time in the world. Just don't kill the evil ghostly on the alter, let him stand there. Yours will follow you and watch as you all get rebirthed and just wait. But we all had the mission, so I'm not sure you can go back and get it if you need it.

I really hate exploring missions. I get a lot of invites because I'm a monk, then I greet everyone and state my intentions of helping them with mission/bonus in return for help exploring certain parts of the map. Great deal of people frown upon the exploring bit like I'm going to rape their sisters and like I'm the only one whos exploration progress will increase. Many of them don't respond and enter the mission as soon as I accept. And when I say I'm leaving they start whining and talking trash.

dunes was the only one where i had to ditch my group, i was playing touch ranger and they were all being idiots - i knew we wouldn't last, so i ditched them and made a desperation run, was able to get all but the part were you have to run across the invisible bridge, did that with hench after. i was fortunate to have 3 other people trying to get the title during THK, and one who already had it, so the majority ruled and the others were understanding. everywhere else i just ran, except the ice floe...henched all the way through with 60% dp =/ what a nightmare...

But if your left to solo as an elemental, then it makes a huge difference.

Which is what happened to me in THK when the entire team just couldnt be bothered to help me explore.

Or when you have to do DOD and only you can traverse over the wall if you take henches and your alone.

Both those instances would be alot easier for a warrior to solo.
i looked at Savio's screenshot one more time, and i think i see more then him in the party menu, and i think solo means only you? which means no henchies? Cus i remember you commented on him using a warrior and warrior being easier with the high armor al and yada yadabut as far as i see, he is using a warrior with henchies . . . .

Especially compared to THK and DOD! Those two are a pain in the ass, because you DO need humans to help. They cant be done with just henches....

...not from my experience anyway.
rofl, this is the common misconception of most pve noobs. The only missions in Tyria you should do with real people are Ring of Fire and Abaddon's. I always go with a full group of henchies.

And despite what everyone thinks, THK is one of the easiest missions in the game, just long. I tried 5 times on my orignal char with real people, only to fail all 5 times. Then I went with all henchies and did it in under an hour with little trouble. most people i've ever done that mission with since is 3 real people and 5 henchies. C+Space=ftw read the guide about using henchies...

Why is it people always throw around the word NOOB so lightly.

Im anything by a pve noob considering ive explored 100% of both tyria and cantha and got protector on both. So i know the maps and the missions inside and out.

I just personally find the THK and DOD are not easy to do with henches.

DOD because you cant take the henches with you if you traversal over the wall (and no im not doing it on timer, ive tried), and then youve no chance at getting inside the fort unless your a warrior, which im not.

THK you can do with henches, but I find it easier with humans.

I could be wrong in thinking this, but are you a warrior by any chance?

Because if you are, then obviously you have it easier then an elemental at exploring.

Even a warrior with henches would find it easier then an elemental with henches.

It just frustrates me a bit when warriors go on about exploring being easy. Obviously it is because they have huge advantages over lower armored players who cant tank.

wow, cmon

mist form
armor of earth
kinetic armor
magnetic armor
sliver armor
ward vs melee
ward vs foes
ward vs harm
ward of stability

no offense, but that just sounds like a senseless wine

Mist form - ok that might help.
Armor of earth - Ive tried it before and the 50% slower movement just gets you killed.
Kinetic armor - there isnt any slow down, but you have to keep casting a spell every 8 seconds, so its hardly good if you have to keep stopping to cast if your in the middle of a mob.
Magnetic armor? - did you mean Magnetic Aura? - 75% to block melee isnt going to help if the creatures arent using melee.
The ward againsts - ok they could help.

But over-all a warrior is still going to have a much simpler time exploring and running, purely from the advantage of stronger armor and warrior skills which allow the to endure attacks and strength'n armor and slow enemies down.

Im not suggesting ele's cant explore, considering i have 100% on mine for both. Im saying warriors do have it easier.

Yeah, I know I don't post much at all, but this is a subject that hit close to home for me too.

For those with no time to read all this, skip to the bold paragraph at the bottom

First of all, there is nothing wrong with explorers per say. Everyone wants something out of the game they're playing. And I believe that if you join a PUG stating your intentions and everyone agrees...then you should be allowed to explore without being hassled or cheated out of it.

Now, this is not saying that explorers are a bunch of kids, but a lot of people who play GW are also adults that have a wife and children at home. I, myself, happen to be one of them. When I get an hour or so to play, I certainly don't want to waste my game time dealing with an explorer...it's just not important to me at all. My attitude about explorers deal with just a couple of bad apples so to speak. When I took my Sin to the Riverside Province, we had a well-formed PUG and everything was going great, bonus and all until this little monk of ours carrying the Scepter of Orr decides she wants to explore for her title. I politely stated that I don't have time for that and she really should have mentioned it in the beginning so I can just go with another group. Instead, she (or he) stated that she had the scepter and we'll have to wait until she was done! That added another 15 minutes to the game for her to explore what she called a "small section of the map." That was really lame of her to do that to the whole team.

Later that same day, I had another hour to play and was getting my monk ready for Aurora Glade. Needless to say, I found a PUG very easily who were happy to have two monks on the team and ready to go. Before entering the mission, I simply asked, "Is there anyone on this team that intends to explore for their title on this mission?" The other monk replies, "I need to explore." With that, I said "Thank you for telling me. I'm sorry, but I don't have that kind of time." I left. They tried to get me to join them again, but I wouldn't join, and it's not about having an attitude problem, it's about stating my own intentions which is something I wish every explorer would be nice enough to do. That one monk at Riverside had really disgusted me against explorers...didn't last long, though, but now it's a regular question for me when entering a group.

The point being let those who state they want to explore before entering a mission to do so. At the same token, don't get upset over people who just don't have the time to deal with it (not pointing the finger at anyone in particular), they probably have a limited amount of playtime (just enough for the mission) and care little for titles. Henchies can work out well even if it takes a while longer. If it takes a long time to find an exploration group for the really hard missions, then so be it...isn't that title important enough to you for it to be worth the wait?

To freekedoutfish, congrats on all those titles! Serious devotion there.

About THK, I'll have to try it with my Elementalist to understand what you're talking about, it was easy to hench it with my Mesmer.

Happy exploring to those who want it.

Cheers!

Well, this thread has certainly dampened my spirits!

The problem of exploration in Cantha was non-existant as I could get to every area I need to...but Tyria seems to be a little more different in the way that you have to do the exploration in-mission. Hmm, Thankfully I am in an alliance now and when the time comes to explore THK, Abbadons Mouth and Dunes of Dispair maybe they will lend a hand.

I always maintain an encouraging attitude towards explorers...I got my Canthan Grandmaster Cartographer title a while back and may begin work on the Tyrian one (I'm at 50% atm...). When we're in-mission in Cantha I will occaisonally say "Anyone wanting Grandmasters should edge-walk this side", in missions such as the very beginning of Unwaking Waters where you can edge-walk the western edge after killing the Afflicted...that got me my last 0.1%!

I do hope when I feel up to the challenge of exploring Tyria I don't encounter too many problems.

Cheers for the congrats :P

I agree completely with you. I always state whether I want or need to explore before entering a mission.

Although Ive only ever needed humans to help on THK, DOD, and one or two of the fire aisle missions.

Others ive managed fine with henches.

Ofcourse its easier second time around. My Necro has reached 90% in tyria alot faster then my ele did.

I await the day I have kids running around my feet, while I try to juggled Guildwars at the same time :P....

...actually no I dont. I dont evny you :P

Warning Rant

I just did THk AGAIN to try and explore north of the keep and let everyone know from the start i wanted to explore, everyone aggred infact everyone was up for it then as dorian appears one guy turns round and say no im speaking to the king, we say it will only take 2 mins and he agrees once again. After we kill the Dorian and im 2 step out the gate BANG cut scene.
Once we appear at ember light the guys says i had school tommorow!!!!!!

sorry for the rant i just hate people that do that to you after spending near on an hour getting them through the go and do that to you especially when everyone else in the group was up for it.

THK can be done with henchies. Just stay near the king but make sure that he stays on top and does not run down the stairs. That way you should be fine. I died there on my try with henchies because I allowed the king to move. Then our dear healers kinda forget about healing the king and rather admire the sky...
