this has been beaten to death many times. It is not complete yet, it will be in a live update that will be coming some time in the next few months.

Default The Scribe: 11/17/06 - Elite mission hints

Quote:
Mission for the Elite
Not for the Fainthearted

I have heard early, unconfirmed reports of an unknown region of The Realm of Torment. Though my source is...less than reliable... he reports that this area may contain the most vicious and dangerous adversaries Elonians have faced! However, with great risk comes great reward, and my informant has also begun ranting and raving about the great treasures he saw during his short foray into this mysterious area.

Unfortunately, as I said, my source is not exactly the most reliable of citizens. He is, in fact, the spirit of a corsair who, in his more corporeal form, was known to be overly fond of grog. In fact, the rumor is he drank a Ridgeback Skale under the table during a wild weekend in Mehtani Keys. According to members of the Order of Whispers—who have since apprehended the specter upon his escape to the living realm—the story this ghost has to tell may yet have merit.

The Order of Whispers has had little success in making inroads with this being, and cannot prove or disprove his tale. Hence, they asked me to meet with the condemned corsair and piece together his ramblings to come up with a coherent description, or preferably, directions to this supposed realm of riches. I will include my short interview in this missive. Perhaps others can better to decipher what could simply be the dementia of a deluded mind.

Monastery Scribe (MS): A representative from the Order of Whispers asked that I speak with you about this new area you seem to have stumbled upon. May I ask you your name?
Corsair (KP): They be callin' me Keg-leg Pete, Captain Keg-leg Pete. Scourge of these here seas of Elona, and the deadliest corsair in all the lands!
MS: Do you mean Peg-leg Pete, by chance? I could not help but notice your wooden limb.
KP: If that be what I was meanin', I would have uttered them words, scurvy landlubber. Me name is Keg-leg because I hollowed out this here peg and filled it with a ripe ol' batch of me mum's secret rum recipe. Care for a swig from the ol' Appendage o' Intoxication? Yar har har…
MS: I must pass, with thanks. I am on the job, so to speak. Could you please share with me how you came across this new area?
KP: I's done told the filthy Whisperin' sorts everything I be knowin'. One minute I was fast asleep in me quarters, the next minute I woke up in this dreadful land o' accursed beasts. These monsters would send the heartiest of corsairs climbin' to the crow's nest for safety.
MS: You have spoken to the Order of Whispers about treasures and valuable wares. Is this true?
KP: Aye! Oh the booty these eyes have seen would make the richest lords of Vaabi ache with jealousy. Gold droppin' like rain during a squall, weapons worth more than a boat full of ale! And gems! Oh, the gems! They be like nothin' I ever seen before! I don't know what they be for, but if they be half as valuable as they looked, every treasure-seeking scallywag in this wretched world would gladly pillage his grandmum's house for one such jewel, if that be what it took! If it weren't for those wretched beasts, I'd be the richest spirit in the Rift. Well, would be if I could take me riches with me, that is.
MS: So, how, might I ask, can one gain entry to this new region?
KP: Ah, so you want to be testin' yer might against them demons, eh? Come closer, and I'll whisper it to you. No…closer. These guys have made a whole order about whispers, remember? They got good ears. Ok…first, you need to pick up a back stabbin' landlubber of a first mate. Then you need to be foolish enough to share the map to yer stash with the scurvy dog. Then you need to drink until it's blacker than the blackest night, and like some sort of magic, you will wake up, as a spirit, in that forsaken land of pain and profit!
MS: That is less than helpful. Is there a way to get there that does not involve dying?
KP: Why would I care? I'm dead! HAHAHA!

And with that, the ghostly creature fell into a fit of hysterical laughter and I made a disgruntled departure.

As you can see, I did not get much useful information from the spectral corsair. It seems there was a mutiny on his ship—one that resulted in an unfavorable outcome for the soul in question. Perhaps as some sort of punishment for his life of avarice and violence, he was sent to a realm of unimaginable pain and suffering. And yet, this talk of riches has led the Order of Whispers to endeavor to find a portal to this new area. They are particularly interested in these alleged new gems, as they have never seen gems that fit this "captain's" description, and are eager to learn the nature and use of such items. Their objective is to find a direct path to the excessive riches the corsair claims to have seen. Members of the Order of Whispers will continue to search for a pathway, and upon finding one, will send members of their order ahead to scout the new area. I will keep you up to date with any news of progress in their search.
So, do you think the new "Hunting Abbaddon" quest has anything to do with this? Are there any new in-game hints relating to this or, much more likely, is this just the Scribe teasing us with the possibility of the elite mission?

It's not in the game yet I don't think, but I wonder if the Great Zehtuka's items and the quest to find him are the first steps toward the elite mission? Three out of four of the items don't always spawn so it seems you need to have search for them and be somewhat lucky.

Anyways, this is all just speculation. I'm just wondering what you guys think.

From reading the article one would suspect that the "portal" to the Elite mission would be accessed via the Order of Whispers in the Chantry of secrets after they "found a way in". Even though i am doubtful if the above mentioned quest will be used in determining access, if so for the first week or so, those quest items can easily sell for anywhere from 10-50k i suspect if they are hard to find should the quest be readily made for anyone to take it. Personally i hope that isnt the case.

Anet did express in PCgamer Nov that the Elite mission will be accessed by the public when they reach a certain point in the game. Which can mean a few things: Access limited by

1) Title specific- lightbringer comes to mind and the highest possiblity in accordance to the storyline since you would obtain Lightbringer titles from the order of whispers and if they were to sent scouts into the new domain, they would only allow those who have obtain at least lightbringer status inorder to have a higher chance to survive the trip in a "RPG story sense."

2)Timeline specfic-quest for access only trigger after you reached/completed a certain significant primary quest in the storyline/or completed the game?

Some other points which are of specific interest would be:

a) The rewards mentioned,Gems. In the case of the article, no specific names were mentioned in place of the gems ie, ruby, sapphire and diamonds which can mean either the "new gems" found in the Elite mission is a collectors items of sorts which can be exchanged later for the gems/other rewards we know of, or could possibly be the rubies, sapphires and diamonds themselves. Which in this case will affect gem prices greatly since they have been steadily climbing as more player reached Vabbi and the richer ones buying vabbial armours.

b) If Heros will be able to accompany your characters into the Elite mission is another possible question. Making comparison to Factions Elite mission, where henchman are absent, then it is likely that Heros similarly wont be able to accompany players into the Elite mission and hence rely on purely PuGs. Zinger on his other thread have fore-mention the possible discrimmination of PuGs by their lightbringer title and much disccussion have taken place after along with my own views on the matter. Read the thread from: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10077296
And since it has been confirmed that the Elite mission will take place in the realm of torment, hence it is likely the PuG mentality would evovle around the lightbringer title in one way or another.

In the thread about The Scribe in Riverside, someone said that the location the elite mission will take place in is Nightfallen City of Adashim. Considering the huge amounts of treasure described, and the thought of Abaddonic Djinn, this could very well be possible.

I will bet you a dollar that there will be an armor crafter somewhere in there who will require diamonds. Possibly even in addition to the rubies and sapphires needed for Vabbian armor.

thoughts:

As the scribe is hinting about getting drunk in order ot get to the elite mission, and we know zehtuka's jug is an alcoholic drink, the 2 may have to do something with eachother.

The scribe also mentions mehtani keys, if there is a download, it might be worth exploring there a bit.

lastly we know the there are currently unnused branches of juni berries, and there is a collector somewhere who trades (can't remember what, but not the branches) for alcoholic juni juice.

Just as a general comment, juniper berries are the main flavouring in gin. I don't think that is much help though :-)

From the "interview" with the ghostly corsair, it sounds to me like these gems are a whole new type of gem vice sapphires, rubies and diamonds. Just speculation, but maybe adding more rare crafting materials (like emeralds and whatnot) for chapter 4 armor.

Default Margrid??

Keg-leg mentions a "backstabbing landlubber of a first mate" that you have to "pick up"? Is that Margrid? Or was she a captain?

The reference to "the map to your stash" could mean: give him/her/it 1k? As in the donations/offerings to Balthie and Grenthie...

Then there's the drunken part... erm, he is a pirate, and they get drunk all the time... and going around say Gates of Torment drunk while growling: "yaarrrh" isnt exactly my idea of a suspense-ridden entry to an elite mission, but to each his/her/its own... But hey! Lets get liquered up for elite-fun!

The Scribe (curse him and his vague language) also mentions that The Order is searching for a pathway (entry?), and when they find one they'll send other members (players?) in to scout the area... To me that sounds like it isn't open yet.

That's it from Denmark this round, and let's wait and see what happens come x-mas time... the G-Girl DID promise us a gift?

I met this drunk keg leg in elena and after bribing him with some canthan rice wine he said that the elite area will accessed through a Npc that will appear near Xmas and he will be found in the Chantry of Secrets.

He said he will be quite distinguishable as he will be dresssed in red have a white beard and will be sitting in a sleigh which will have some snow griffons as the sleigh's means of propulsion.

There will be 3 quests to do before this bearded fat guy in a red suit gives you access to the elite area.

The first quest you get from the snow griffon with a shiny red nose and its to find the elves that were kidnapped by the troments.

Upon completion and getting your rewad the same griffon will give you the 2nd quest which will entail to go to Kamadam and search for the missing postman who was supposed to meet the guy in the red suit.

Once you find the missing postman, he will give you your reward and give you your 3rd quest which is to visit several towns to recover his lost mail.

WHEN all this is done the npc will give a quest item called postmans bag and you can return to the guy in the red suit and he will give you access to the elite area which will be through the new statue which is situated in this area.

ofc i am joking lol

Good one El S.

And about that gold: As far as i can remember (which isn't very far), that pile o' gold is in Ze Hidden Zitee of Ze Djinns, neh? That means that to gain entry to the elite would require one to have explored that or ? Not likely imho...

But hey any shot is a good shot when no-one can see if it misses or not...

Keep up the input ppl, maybe The Dev's haven't come up with a good idea on how to let us in yet, and they are desperately scouring the forums to nab good ideas...
