Default <3 nightfall...but **spoliers??**

Im cruising through the game with my friend and heroes and we are having a pretty good time...loving the game...until we get to the gate of madness mission...

this mission is total BS...

**we did these same steps 5 times before quitting**

we run around killing stuff, closing the portals and such, we kill the lich, get all the gods on our side...have koss stance tank shiro and then impossible odds happens...we heal him, over and over but dies...then shiro turns on me...and wont stay off me(im a paragon). so we res sig koss and shiro wont go back to koss...he wont aggro to anyone but ME. so i run off and shiro chases me for a while then goes back to koss. so im sitting away from my party not doing dmg and impossible odds happens again...kills koss. and then comes back to me kills me with impossible odds and we lose...

this mission is bullshit....we played all day and we cant beat it...it makes me want to quit guild wars....

other than that nice game ^^

I had troubles with this mission too (Shiro tbh) this is what you do:

Tanks hold aggro while casters stay in back
My necro hero had spoil victor, enfeeble, price of failure, shadow of fear, life siphon and one other skill I forget. This alone shut him down. To make things easier, bring a necro with those anti melee skills and a SS/Empathy necro. He should die easily.

Otherwise, kite him off while Battle Scars is active (This is your biggest problem here, he can't use Meditation of the Reaper now)

I lost to him the first time I did that mission. Impossible Odds is the problem. Other than that I just let him follow me while I did the bonus and he wasn't a threat. It's once you get him down to low life that he goes crazy. I defeated him the second time with two other players and Heroes. I was the monk, there was a water elementalist, and a SS necro. And I gave Koss the skill Wild Blow. Easy victory.

Weakness goes a long way with Shiro. I beat him on my first try while using a Dev Hammer Warrior. Wild Blow/Strike/Throw would probably be a good idea too.

Oh, and using Holy damage on the Lich gives you a 2x bonus, so it might be helpful if you just kill him quickly and then worry about Shiro.

Based on how to beat him in Factions...

An Air Elementalist with Ennervating Charge and Blinding Surge should do the trick. Blind + Weakness... Shiro gets owned.

Well several of us have been trying for 2 days now using the techiniques above and he still kills us with Impossible Odds.

Up until Nightfall has been flawless...now its beginning to suck.

I'm sure it will be better once I beat him, but doing the same, long, boring mission over and over and freakin over again for 2 days gets old. This is with multiple groups and such as well so it isnt just me.

Blinding Surge? You mean Blinding Flash? [EDIT: Apologies, my bad - didn't notice there was an elite called Blinding Surge]

Well I am an air elementalist and I used Blinding Flash, Lighning Strike, Enervating Charge, Lightning Orb and Lightning Surge. Still took a while to get him down...He owned most of us before we managed to get him down!

I know exactly what you mean...I thought I was doing really well killing him and managing to stay alive...but as we almost managed to kill shiro it was like he looked at me...and thought..."she's going to die"...and I did. It's odd though, you mention you're a Paragon...whenever I help by brother who does play a paragon EVERYTHING goes for him. I even tried aggroing stuff first as my ele, and even though I only have AL60 as soon as the enemies saw the Paragon they pounced! Makes AoE fantastic but it's just a wierd observation...are Paragons supposed to be the new tanks? O.o

SPOIL VIKTOR!!1

But seriously, a SS/Victor/Parasite build with Reckless Haste will own the hell out of Shiro. Blind helps too, thanks to a ranger I was able to tank him while keeping Spoil Victor and Insidious Parasite on him.

Once we figured out what to do this mission was pretty easy (with people), basically get shiro down till 1/4 and he will start doing impossible odds at this point he will tend to hold aggro on a single person. When that happens get them to run about while still having aggro and hit shiro with all the magic you have and stay out of meele and he will go down with out much trouble.

I did it taking 2 anti mele heroes (though my blood one accidently had soul leach not spoil victor oO). The key was making him stay entirely on the mele, once I got that sorted (took several wipes of the party but I had a hard res so ran around getting everyone back up) he went down no problem (with heroes/hench only).

It's totally do-able solo, with Heroes and henchies.
Even if you only have 1 Necro hero, all you need is Spoil Victor and a Wild Blow Warrior.

I was playing Warrior, so I brought wild blow myself, and had 1 Necro Hero with Spoil Victor and some degen, 1 Mesmer Hero with degen hex, a Monk Hero, and just random henchies.

Make sure to place the heroes spread apart, and put the main hench flag in the middle.
This way, Impossible Odds won't hit everyone.

                                 ○ Hero 1

                                  ○ ○
                    ○ Hero 2 ○ Henchies ○ Hero 3
                                    ○

This is pretty much how I had it placed.

I have the feeling, that a lot of people who have trouble with Nightfall quests and missions simply don't command their Heroes well. If you get used to positioning of the flag, and quickly changing its location depending on the situation, as well as using key skills they have manually, it gets a lot easier.
In other words, play it like RTS. Remember controlling three heroes in Warcraft III?
Micromanagement is the key to victory.
