Default GoA Obsidian Geomancer Tank Idea

OK I am not sure this will work but seems like it can. Basically you run a Geomancer out there as your tank with perpetual Obsidian Flesh. The only dmg you take is from the conditions given to you. I have tried running this solo and it appears to work fine...need to try it with a guildie to make sure it is doable in a group. Also you don't need to use serpents quickness if QZ is up of course.

The bonder monk can bond you with Life Barrier [E] or Life Bond if they choose but it's not neccessary. If you decide to go with Armor of Earth instead of Kinetic then you will need a bond from them. NRG can get a little tight at times so a Balthazars spirit from the monk would keep you full....thus allowing you too drop Stone Striker and Storm Chaser for 2 DMG Spells or Kiting Spells.

Obsidian Flesh [E] (20 AL)
Kinetic Armor (84 AL)
Stone Flesh (-33 DMG Taken per hit)
Aura of Restoration (Counter Conditions)
Ward of Stability (Counter KD interupts)
Stone Striker (Converts DMG to Earth)
Serpent Quickness (Allows for perpetual Obsidian Flesh)
Storn Chaser (+4 NRG per hit)
Cast Serpents Quickness then immediately cast Obsidian Flesh...recast Obsidian flesh as soon as you see Serpents or Obsidian Flash. Now cast Storm Chaser to fully recharge your NRG =).


-BONDED VER. 1-

Obsidian Flesh [E] (20 AL)
Kinetic Armor (84 AL)
Stone Flesh (-33 DMG Taken per hit)
Aura of Restoration (Counter Conditions)
Ward of Stability (Counter KD interupts)
Serpent Quickness (Allows for perpetual Obsidian Flesh)
Ebon Hawk (95 DMG +27hp)
Stoning (95 DMG +40hp)
Ebon Hawk and Stoning will give you a continuous KD on one of the Monks. Also the low recharge will keep your health topped out.

Crystal Wave (116 DMG +40hp)
Sliver Armor (37 DMG per +27hp)
Crystal wave is a nice skill to have cause of the 116 AoE Dmg. Sliver is tricky bacause it WILL cause scatter but may be nice to try and spike with. An option would be to let the geomancer kill the mele foes first with sliver armor. It won't take long with 10+ foes attacking you. The DMG given will out dmg the healing from the Ki's.

-BONDED VER. 3-

Kinetic Armor (84 AL)
Stone Flesh (-33 DMG Taken per hit)
Aura of Restoration (Counter Conditions)
Ward of Stability (Counter KD interupts)

Ward Against Foes (Kite for AoE Spikes +40hp)
Deep Freeze (Kite for AoE Spikes +67hp)

Ward Against Mele is enough for the front line foes and can stay up continuouly, Deep Freeze is for the Casters.

I've found that obsidian warrior is a much better choice for gloom. Opinions will of course differ, but with essentially the same group setup, tank takes 0 damage almost all of the time and has a much easier time surviving the few seconds when enchantments drop, get stripped or otherwise end. Your milage may vary of course, this is just my experience after multiple groups with both setups.

For City, obs ele can tank without support and without bonds with permanent obsidian. With sliver armor you can even solo kill some mobs, depending on the number of Kis and their position of course. The downside is ofcourse the lack of agro management. Depending on how you run the group, running Obs Flesh, Stoneflesh, Armor of Earth and sliver armor, combined with Earth attunement, Aura of Restoration and Balth spirit makes you indestructive with more than enough energy to spam your enchants, as long as you can keep up obs flesh. With QZ, that's no problem, didn't try the SQ. The good thing is that you're self-sufficient, and you don't need bonds, except possibly for the end group.

As always, there's no really right way, since it depends a lot on the rest of the team.

I ran a build similiar to the one you posted and it indeed works. the problem that i encountered is that sometimes QZ is down and when it is your in a world of hurt when Obs Flesh wears out and they strip you =(. This E/R build can solo if your not spam happy with the spells which can be difficult at times cause standing there as an Ele is kinda different then a Tank standing there. Ele's have itchy trigger fingers...or at least I do. Either way I gotta give this a shot with a decent group tonight.

This idea has been posted many times in many different threads, one specific one is called DoA brainstorming, there's whole group builds there, built around the idea of using obs flesh or SB to keep up immunity to spells
