I've fought into the forest in the past, but getting there can be a pain so I don't do it much anymore.

I was thinking of taking an elite that is probably never used - Warrior's Endurance.

With a zealous hilt, you'd gain 4 energy per hit. Enough to use your signets liberally even under those damned spirits. It would also fuel any other energy based skills that you may want to use.

Good job on the guide, you actually posted it about 1 day after I mentioned in Rac's W/X FoW thread that I was going to do it. I probably would have been too lazy anyway

And BTW, in the past I've found that Elemental Resistance > MoL

EDIT: I know Warrior's Endurance is a stance... So that just means that you don't go as a W/Me with ER/MoL
W/E with Armor of Earth works quite nicely as well, and for the points that you spend in inspiration, I think AoE would give you more armor. Might be worth a 20% enchant pommel if you do this.

It's simple, I get damage spikes of 120 when I use MoL. When I use ele resistance it's 50 or so

You do not need Hundred blades to Solo this, just more helpful to gain energy when you have 3+ enemys in front of you(and damage).

The skills that I found to be most usefull in the Wailing Forest are Hundred Blades, Desperation Blow, And Svage slash(Interupt+dmg when they use a spell) And the sword I really like to use for this is the collector sword in Snake Dance for 5 Mountain trolls tusks(husks??).

Ok guys, nice job on the build and the method of farming, very nice work, I don't post very often but I love farming out of the way areas and have been farming the forest for sometime now. The build I am posting is nothing new or even very exciting, but it gets the job done very well...

sprint
elemental resistance
VIM (elite)
Heal Sig
Doly Sig
Sever Artery (VIM and bleeding )
Gash (again VIM and deep wound)
and this one is up to you, I use Final Thrust but do change sometimes for fun

No big secret here, I run full glads with knights boots with sup strength and sup swords, major absorption, major vigor and minor tactics although sup tactics can also be used. I am at work so I can't name my attributes exactly but I run doly sig at 20 secs., so no gap, ele res is at 50 secs and I believe VIM heals me for 53 hps per condition, the rest in swords. Now my sword is zealous and it has an armor +7 vs Physical and I use the crimson carapace shield of course, the only tough mob in the forest are the spirit wood or w/e they are called, so run doly and ele res at all times while fighting these, to me they do 12 lightning damage (thats right 12) and only 24 when chain lightning, so when fighting 3 I use heal sig usually only once and VIM until I have killed 1, then usually VIM is more than enough, I have 360 hps before the shield mod, if they are wanding me, I take 0 damage and will actually regen naturally, for every other mob, doly is fine except for the rock borer things, you can just kill them easy without doly if you choose, anyways, I never die doing this run but do enjoy the somewhat challenge...hope it helps...also, as you can see, you don't need high end gear for this and plate is not necessary...enjoy

I use that, but with my 2nd favorite skill desperation blow. Really its the build one uses when you dont wanna go stances.

one question. deeper in the forest there is a pack of 6 shepherds. Is there any way to separate them? or do I have to hack my way in? 3 is feasible but 6 is a bit difficult, even though I use Watch yourself to boost my armor rating further.
And w/ apocalypse's build could I kill the skeletons too?

The grouping of 6 to 9 Spirit Shepard's is a glitch. If you shoot them with a longbow they will usually seperate. If they regroup try shooting another one. It seems something in the forest gets stuck with every spawn.

Maybe I should have added that into the original guide about the 6/9 group of Shepherds. Like Lams3k said , try separating them with your bow, if they all follow sprint is your friend in that case.

how about epidemic for that apocalypse's empty slot? you lose +20 armor but every 15 seconds your health will be full with 300+ from ViM at 50. Plus you'd kill faster, since it might just be me but I've found it impossible to keep bleed/deep wound on all three shepherds.
Of course it doesn't help for spider or for the spirit, but they're not much of challenges anyways. I don't think I'd have problem w/ energy since ViM gives me evergy also, and would give me 30 everytime I use it w/ a successful epidemic.
I'd probably stick to watch yourself though, since my warrior doesn't have epi. Just a suggestion though.

Cool

Epidemic...never tried it, think I will give it a try. Anyways, I never even try to put bleeding and deep wound on more than 1 shepard, there is no need, the 106 hps every 15 secs. is enough, and yes, when you meet the pack of 6 shepards, use your trusty longbow to separate them, works like a charm. As far as skeles, the only ones I can easily kill are the archers, the others are way to much trouble IMO, after all, you can easily clear all the spiders in the cave as well if you choose, so this run would be around an hour or so anyways and there is all the chests to hunt down. However, if you need more things to kill, try this, get the skeles to chase you into the shadows near the second tower (where the forgemaster is), bring enough skeles and the shadows will lose, which spawns lots of shadow beasts which are very easy to kill---just remember, not attacking sometimes can be your friend with those. Personally, I use 2 different builds depending on the area I want to run, the forest is the build I posted, the cave spiders I have a different one that is far faster and is really quite easy...FTW...

cave spiders I run the build that MoNo (I think that is the person) posted, it works like a charm and is very fast...

sprint
phys res
VIM
Heal sig
Sever
Gash
Galrath
Final Thrust

I run same armor...so 360 hps, same sword and shield and I put swords to max and tactics to yield 60 hps per condition from VIM (remember no need for strength in this build), no need to worry about the spiders Melandru's Resilence either cause this just plain kills too fast...hehe, and the driftwoods, I don't think you can kill them any faster...have fun

Holy sweet, i just figured that when u use desperation blow when dolyak signet is on, you dont even get knockeed down. Thats a hell of an offensive skill, more than +30 damage WITH a condition. Oh lala!

Is there a clearer map of how to get to the Forest? I have never seen it and the little radar maps are hard to understand where he is going.

Cheers

From the start, run up along the wall on the right and stop where the small trees are. Two shadow warriors and a monk will appear up above you on your left. Turn to face them, you are now facing (basically) in the direction you want to be going. You can see the path heading to a point where the rock faces come together leaving a gap. You are aiming for there, it leads down a slope. Then follow left hand side round and you will see the trees (forest)
