Default Necrotic Transversal trick bugged/not working?

Hi, I'm not sure if this is would go in the tips for 100% cartographer thread or not, but I'm trying to get that title, and I read on wiki that in Great Northern Wall you can position a charr under a bridge and kill it. When you kill it if you cast necrotic transversal/consume corpse it would take you above the bridge without setting off the timer so you can explore without worrying about failing the mission. I tried this a few times and it won't work. Is it bugged or did Anet somehow fix this? Any answer would be appreciated.

I'm not entirely sure if they fixed it, I'd have to go try it, but it's 3:30 am and I haven't the brain power.

I'll check it out tomorrow and reply with more info if someone hasnt' already.

In regards to them fixing it, it really wouldn't surprise me. It has been available as an exploit, yes an exploit, for far too long. I use the term exploit not because you can zone out into different areas in PvE to help get your 100% Tyrian Grandmaster Cartographer... I've done that myself. I'm using the term exploit because it was able to be used to gain access to an opposing parties base during GvG without needing the Guild Thief.

I hope i didn't give anythign away... just incase it hasn't been fixed.

It still works. I just did the bonus for Dunes of Despair, and using Necrotic to Teleport down and kill the Generals without capping the alter with Hero.

You probably just weren't close enough to do it.

I can confirm that in the Great Northern Wall mission it no longer seems possible to get yourself up onto the bridge to explore at leisure (without the timer going).
It could have something to do with the guildwars.com update of

Bug Fixes
Fixed a skill exploit that allowed players to walk through closed gates.


I found that trying to use necrotic traversal to a boss killed under the bridge, or rebirth of a partner killed by vampiric weapon under the bridge, no longer works to transport someone up a level onto the bridge. The rebirth repeatedly transports the other character to the rebirther on the ground under the bridge. And necrotic traversal brings you to the boss on the ground, not up above the corpse onto the bridge.

We’re back to repeating the mission and using speed boost skills to gradually clear the map fog during the available minutes. Sad day for cartographers.

Dunes got nerfed IMO. I've tried to do the necrotic traversal trick, the corpse was in my aggro zone, tried to use the skill, and nothing.

I'm just curious, did anybody try death's charge instead of necrotic traversal? Of course, you do it when the mob is alive.

Users may not shadow step to locations that they cannot normally walk to. For example, users may not shadow step past closed gates to enemies. This differs from regular teleportation.

I don't know about walking through closed gates with NT. My memory is hazy, but I seem to remember the gate to the Charr camp in the Northern Wall area is open. Yes? No?

It was the Assassin Recall/Return trick that allowed me to walk through a closed gate in Eredon Terrace and explore all the way to the edge of the world (.5%). I had to 'shadow step' back inside the outpost, though, to do it. It worked with other closed gates in Cantha as well (that's just the only one I tried) and may have worked on closed gates in Elona. I only tried it in a couple of places in Elona and it wouldn't work, so I'm not sure.

I wonder if this bug fix will effect being able to walk through the closed gate in that one fort in the Dunes of Despair area. Hmmmm. *tapping forehead*

At any rate, you've got my curiosity piqued, and I may try the NT trick under the bridge by the Charr staging area tonight to see for myself. I know it didn't work the first time I tried it, and it took me a couple of more tries to get the boss positioned just right.

That isn't what was being refered to in the Update notes. That was fixed when Nightfall came out.

Hi there...

I answered two of my questions this evening. I had the bosses positioned perfectly under the bridge in two attempts to NT onto the bridge, and both times I ended up under the bridge.

And as to my question about whether the gate is opened or closed, it's sort of closed and sort of falling open before the cutscene. Then after the cutscene, it's wide open.

In addition to answering my own questions, I also got myself a couple of wintergreen candy canes with the singed skulls and ornate grawl necklaces I collected, so all in all it was a fruitful trip.

Same goes to Rebirth, using it under a bridge to get to the top of it wont work.
Necrotic will still work in some places, but not for the bridges either - Rurik's path in shiverpeaks can be reached if you tranverse to a corpse of his dead bodyguard, but it wont for for ettins under a bridge later on.

I couldn't get past the closed bridge in Dunes of Despair tho.

I just spent 40 minutes on trying to lure the 2nd ice golem to the bridge in Frost Gate - for some reason the patrol that is standing ahead of the bridge won't follow you anymore, the summits come to attack you: however, the golem will break aggro before he can pick up the Ascalon Soldier... and one lvl10 Ice Golem can't do it alone. Still wondering when they snuck in this change, because 3 days ago it worked out just fine.
Dunes trick seems to be another old iron, haven't checked myself - but I read enough confirmation. Intention or bug? Teleport shouldn't be like Shadowstep imo.

I took Olias to animate a bone fiend. Then he sacrifice and died and the fiend killed 2 guards in no time.

i just tried to explore the path of rurik in frost gate mission.
but there are no dwarves he fights with on the way to be able to transport too...anet seems to have removed those.
i also tried the assassin skill "return" on rurik to transport too him. but it also doesn't work. Anet doesn't want people to get the 100% grand master im sure.

You don't need to do any "tricks" to get Tyrian GMC. I am a Tyrian GMC and have never once used the Necrotic Traversal/Rebirth trick.

Can you be more specific? Can you still get there without NecTrav? Or are you saying you can do it without NecTrav and 0% explored of all old arenas and 0% low-lev only arenas?

You can fully explore Dunes and Northern Wall without any trickery, it's just harder. (Dunes especially)

However The Frost Gate does look like it's no longer fully exporeable with update. I've no idea what you mean with that Golem suggestion Element; there's no corpses by the guards for the golem to be animated from, that's the whole problem.

There's still the map bug outside Ice Caves of Sorrow that gets ~0.1%.

I had a guildmate monk the ghost in Dunes while I explored the bonus area. Took me about 3 runs to fully explore it. I have also never been to any arenas in Tyria. That includes all arenas that have been relocated to the Battle Isles and the low level arenas.

That just means I had to edge a bit more of the map, especially in the high end areas.
