I have just started playing and Don't really know some of the mechanics. Not sure how to find allies to quest with. How do I find henchmen, or other players to quest with?

You don't! For now anyways...chances are you're in pre-searing right now, where there are no henchmen to hire and more other players are busying doing their own stuff.

Well, first off, welcome to GW!

Second off, henchmen aren't available in Pre-sear as I recall but you can join up with another player for quests. In general you'll just advertise what quest you're doing and see if anyone else wants to do the same thing. It would be nearly impossible for me to relate everything you could do in GW with a single post.

I can usually be found online most days but tomorrow I'll be offline. I don't mind helping you if you need it, contact me in game. I even have a char in Pre-searing that I could come back and maybe help you out a bit.

There are only a couple of quests that you need another player to help, but of course it is more fun when you have team mates. Getting in a good guild will help immensely.
