I am sitting on some gold that I want to spend on Keys, I am having trouble deciding which keys I should purchase.

Ancient Elonian/Margonite: Both have a chance to drop elemental swords and are cheaper than Demonic but have a higher grape rate.

Demonic: Have a chance to drop colossal scimitars and a higher gold rate but are twice as expensive as the Margonite and more than 2x of the Ancient Elonian chests.

My question is which do you think would be most "worth it" and have the most chance of increasing my investment?

In my experience, I used 10 keys for each of the chests. Here's my results:

Ancient Elonian: 20% gold rate
Margonite: 30% gold rate
Demonic: 70% gold rate

From what I seen, it seems Demonic Chests have the best chance of giving you a gold and making your investment worth it.

Keys are a gold sink. If you're looking for solid investment opportunities, stay away from chests

Margonite chests have one specific advantage: they occur frequently on the Lightbringer point farm route in Domain of Secrets. If you're going after both the chests and the title, Margonite keys might be a good choice.

Wait, is this whole "this type of chest has higher chance to drop gold/purple than others" theory statistically confirmed by the community or is it just another "drops are not random" thing?

Well, the more expensive the key the higher the % of gold items. At 750 g a pop, margonite keys will tend to net more gold items than vabbi or desolation chests.

Of course, there's the ease factor - a lot of the chests in desolation are trivial to access on a wurm, and chest runs in the Mirror of Lyss are doable by just about every class with access to a run boost.

If you want profit from chests - forget it, it used to be worth it when chest colors were fixed for spawn (sigh ... one of few farming endevaours whe having full party was worth it)

If you want chests to fuell titles, i suggest Stygian demonic run if you want both bestrunner and identifier title at same time, if you want just chestrunner title then buy kurz/lux keys for discount in huge bulk from someone who owns outpost and run those.

From my experience and yes you will get more rares in one place than the other I don't think it's entirely random, at least not for each sole person. I've done more than 300 keys in each place so I would know.

Vabbian= best run for your money
Desolation= lots of purples, chance for rares that can get you 100k+
Margonite= same as Desolation, but keys are 750g each.
Demonic= Every run is a rare usually so about 95% rares (at least for me), but keys are 1.5k and well I haven't seen a weapon drop that could get more than 10k for me. But Gloom Shields can land you a pretty amount of gold so those are good.

I would run Demonic or Vabbian. Demonic won't land you as much chests because they cost more, Vabbian can land you more chests, but with more chests you get more purples.

ive made more cash back from running Demonic, have had 4 Gloom Shields, rare skinned Staves, and you also get your money back from mods etc.

Ive never made profit from Marganite, best thing ive had was a req9 FDS.

As for Ancient, ive never got anything decent, Req10 Crude Axe that i sold for 30k, but i still get my money bk from mods etc..just not a quick as i do from demonic.

Maybe if you used a more statistically significant sample...say 100+ keys...the results would be more accurate. 20% gold rate from Ancient Elonian Chests could be perceived as bad luck as I got a string of 8 golds from those chests a while back...but that doesn't mean that they're the best for chest running...

The fact you did is good luck, his might be bad luck though as well. Because I certainly never get rares.

It all depends on what you're trying to do OP.

Chest Running title= Kurzick or Luxon keys for cheapness. Shiverpeak Keys for Witmans Folly for speed.

Wisdom Title= Demonic Keys or CRing during those double rare events.

Money= dont bother unless you're lucky . Although you can net rare weapons/mods in each place.

I opened over 200 margonite chests this weekend, and almost EVERY item was worthless, like 85% of my drops were purple wing wands

i have good luck with margonite chests and kurzick chests....got an elemental sword from like the third margonite i opened and ive gotten 2 15^50 req9 gothic dual axes from kurzick chests....i might try running shiverpeak chests in ice flow and try for a mursaat hornbow or hammer.

I usually get crap from margonite. I made little profit from Ancient Elonian because I got 2 req9 ancient scythes, but most other drops were crap. Honestly, I made a pretty nice profit from Vabbian selling perfect mods. In the end chest running for profit is like the lottery. You can buy one key, and get a req9 colossal/elemental to drop. You can buy 100 keys and get nothing.

mostly purple junk, 3rd run netted me req9 scrabshell, and some upgrades(~100 keys, ~120k profit)
aint whorth your time, farming trolls wil net you more money unless yet are luckey

Bassicly,when u enter, head straight, wait for the patrol to pass, carry on, until you get to the red area, there should be a chest, also, if the chest is behind the bars, get the quest, move back, let the hungers come out and then you move in.

i bought 30 demonic keys, i only got 3 purples...however i only break even on selling items, i put stuff on my heros, and sold a few...

edit: i just ran 10 more demonic keys, one purple staff, 3 req 9 scythes, req 9 defender, req 9 curses icon, i feel i can make my money back

I prefer ancient elonian chests for speed and you can get some decent drops.
I've gotten req 9 scythes with max mods (ex. enchanting, fortitude), a dead bow (req 13 XD) and some other nice stuff. Its definitely good for the chest title. Just go out of bone palace into joko's domain in a wurm and look around. There are some close, especially near the entrance to the shattered ravines.
