Default Aurora Glade bonus in Hard Mode

I'm having a terrible time with this. Any tips?

So far we've gotten the closest by having a runner trying to divert half the waves and making our stand in front of the closest pedestal. Freezes, crippling, and as much AoE as we can throw at them, but the mesmers shut us down and the eles nuke us to kingdom come. Not to mention the IWAY warriors and half-decent monks with elite kiting code.

Run back after you recap it and capture the middle shrine after the White Mantle get it. Basically you need to kill off all the enemies - it's way to hard if you try to run around constantly because a mob of level 25 enemies will own you...

Basically the best thing to do in Hard Mode is to let them come to your waiting heroes and lay down the law with spirits / nukes... This lets you complete both the mission and the bonus as the Demogauge will be left alone. Spirits are awesome here. I highly recommend you use a spirit spammer!
I really recommend you bring Razah here and set up your henchmen using flags. Put Razah on the base of the main pedastal where the Druid is and then flag the other two heroes to each side. I recommend you bring a Prot monk with Life Sheath and such and a SS necro hero with SS (duh), Reckless Haste, Shadow of Fear, Rip Enchantment (IMPORTANT), Insidious Parasite, and such. Then flag your henchmen in front of Razah. I recommend you bring Stefan and Alesia.

Let me know if you're still having trouble. If you're on sometime I can maybe help you out if I have the time... (I'm working on Elona Guardian now, I have Tyria already) - Just remember to bring at least one remove enchantment to get rid of Shielding Hands and Shield of Regeneration.

The easy way to get both mission and bonus reward is to have one runner (eg Ranger) in your group to run the crystals. Have the rest of your team go for bonus.
Bonus is done by hugging the righthand wall and avoiding all enemies untill you get to the Demagogue (dunno about spelling). He is always alone and should be a 10 second kill if you didn't agro any enemies.
In normal mode one party member can solo him easy while the rest run the crystals.
So far this has been the easiest of the hard mode missions.
Good Luck, not that you'll need it

Solveig, when we went down the right hand wall the running teams were chillaxing in front of the Demagogue, and they came out and smoked us.

Strange, in normal mode the other White Mantle were pretty far away from the Dem so it was pretty easy to kill him

If it has changed then your best bet is to slowly whittle down the White Mantle forces until there's none left (keep one as a crystal runner) and when all the normal WM are dead (don't complete the crystals) then go spank the Dem

Solveig's method works. For me it's constant alternate attuning both central and left. Dun attune the right side only after the team going Demagogue had passed thru. Else the spawns will come out and attuned the right side resulting in a battle unless u run away from it. After passing thru the right attunement area there's a BIG ROUNDABOUT to Demagogue. Totally by-passing the mobs clustered in the central. Only after defeating Demagogue then ur runner shld attune all 3 areas. The prot hero monk in the main path who died will kinda get bugged sometimes and the mob coming out will juz stoned around the central area not doing anything after the hero dies.

I leave my mesmer/ele runner buddy to attune while he leave his hero monk on the central main path to distract and slow the central attunement from mobs(mobs will slowly kill the monk) while b4 tt I would have already sneak pass the right attunement area with my 3 heroes to kill Demagogue in 10 secs. Yes it's tt fast.

We are using the not so welcome classes my Rit/ele Me (channel/warder) friend Mes/ele (pyro SF/runner) my heroes mes (ineptitude for Demagogue and some small spells interrupts) nec/mes (as ss reckless haste and small spell interrupts) and healer monk (l-o-deliverance) my friend's hero is a prot monk (with extinguish disable it for self maintenance/sacrificial lamb when running)

Boy, I'm glad this thread is here. I'm glad I'm not the only one who is having problems with this bonus using Tyrian strategies. While I believe it was stated that Arenanet did test hard mode to make sure it was completable with henchmen, I doubt they actually did any testing with Aurora Glade.

Fortunately, I am blessed enough to have Nightfall and all of the heroes, so I'll get to work unlocking some spirits for Razah to spam.

Loki, would trapping also be a possible method? Trap up the paths to the shrines and finish them off.

Try this for killing everybody round the demagogue.
Life Bond a warrior and then put Spell Breaker on him.
It'd be good if you had two monks doing that so Spell Breaker can last a while.
Or you can have an Earth Elementalist do the Obsidian Flesh thing and run in. But when Obsidian Flesh ends, you better have a backup plan.
Also, Wards. Very handy. The first one you should put up should be Ward vs. Elements, then vs. melee, then put down foes last. After you put down against foes, use an AoE spell on the enemies in it such as Searing Heat, Eruption, etc.
If you have a ritualist, have that Rit put down spirit of Destruction. If the enemies die before the spirit does, make sure that rit has transport spirit or whatever to quickly get the spirit up to battle where it can do massive damage.
Traps, I would advise against using. They only work once, and only once. And when they're set off, they only set off on one guy. It's not a good plan really.

If anyone can figure out a strategy to beat the bonus with just Tyrian henchmen, it would be very appreciated. Still can't puzzle that part out.

I completed it done with heroes/hench, but I had to do the bonus and the mission on individual runs -- That is, I couldn't kill the demagogue and complete the attunes on the same run.

First the bonus:

You're going to have to do some running here, so pack your skills accordingly. I found the bday cupcake to work well, but a boost you can keep up 100% of the time is helpful to stack on it (pious haste, storm djinn's, etc).

Alright so you're about to attune the second crystal after saving Less and clearing the area ahead of him. As soon as you do and the gate opens, run for the crystal pedestal ahead. Grab a crystal and flag your heroes to the right attunement pedestal (your right, the opposite of which the white mantle attune first). After flagging your heroes to the right pedestal, make a mad dash for the left (the one the white mantle attune first). Let them cap first and cap it as soon as they're out of your agro range. Run back to pick up a crystal and then cap the middle pedestal right next to it. Grab another crystal and run for the right pedestal, the one your heroes are stationed at. When you reach it, drop the heroes' flag, attune the right pedestal and run straight down the wall (don't worry they will have already capped the left pedestal by this time, so you won't complete the set). Hug the wall all the way around and you can reach the demagogue without drawing agro of the huge mob standing near him. Kill him asap (he dies quickly) and the bonus will be complete. You should have this done with 10-15 seconds to spare, at which time the white mantle will complete the attunement process and you will fail the mission (with bonus complete). Note, there is a rumor that the guards drop dead when the demagogue dies. This is false.

Now the mission:

Again you're running, so leave your bar unchanged. Let's assume you have an ele hero with you, so on his bar (or another hero of your choice if you prefer) bring imagined burden and kitah's burden. Set illusion magic to at least 9 or so. Disable both of these skills on his bar for now, you won't need them for the early portion of the mission.

Alright, so you've reached Less, or skipped past him if you prefer, and cleared the boss and the other group standing near the 2 pedestals. At this point, open your eles skillbar if it isn't already, enable imagined burden and kitah's burden, and disable every other skill he has. Attune both pedestals to open the gate and proceed to grab the crystal from its holder. Head left (to the pedestal the white mantle attune first) and take your heroes with you. Again, let the mantle cap and get out of agro range before you cap. After you cap, flag your heroes to remain at this pedestal. Run back to grab another crystal then attune the middle pedestal right by it. Grab another crystal and attune the right pedestal. Grab another crystal and go back to recap the left pedestal (where your heroes are) attune it, to complete the set of 3. Even if your heroes wiped in their defense of this pedestal, the white mantle runner always leads his group, so your ele hero will have casted at least one illusion slowdown on him. Although he will still cap the pedestal, the snare will give you enough time to complete the set and return to get the recap for the win.

Cliff notes:

1. Enable imagined burden and kitah's burden on x hero and disable all of his other skills.
2. Eat cupcake and open gate
3. Grab crystal and head left
4. Let white mantle cap and let them go without agroing
5. Cap left pedestal and station heroes there.
6. Return to grab a crystal and attune middle pedestal
7. Grab crystal and attune right pedestal
8. Grab crystal and re-attune left pedestal for the win
9. Win

The mission post-cutscene is no challenge if you've made it this far. For the record I was playing monk, brought blessed aura, and storm djinn's haste. I used SS hero, MM hero, SF hero, Thom, Alesia. Brought Alesia b/c I was using somewhat of a gimp monk bar due to the running skills, and to give the group at least some chance of putting up a fight while I was attuning.

If anyone has a good way to complete both the mission and the bonus on one run, I'd be interested in knowing how as well. I know the old way was to just keep your heroes left, keep the left and middle attuned and take out the runner groups one by one... but in HM mantle abbots (monks) are resilient and savants (fire eles) rip through heroes fairly quickly. I don't think 5 heroes left alone will be able to get the job done and still slow their runner for you, but maybe with the right build it's doable. I suppose you could try having the runner run bonds and using the bday cupcake to keep the middle and left attuned while heroes kill the runner groups on the left side.

Edit:

Does the Mes hench still use Crip Anguish? If so you can try the strategy outlined above (for the mission) and hope that he crips the right guy. If not, bring barbed trap or something, lay it on the left pedestal after they cap first, the runner will hit it on the recap, and hopefully that gives you the time needed to complete the attune process.

For the bonus, the strategy I used above is exactly the same whether using heroes and hench or just hench. Hench damage output is a little lower, so if you can bring something yourself to help take down the demagogue quickly, you should still have time to kill him using that strat.

I did it with hero + henchie:

Alesia
Cynn
Echo SS hero
MM hero
Interrupt Mesmer hero

I was a monk...I went M/W and brought along sprint. I capped near crystal stand (center). And flagged heros + henchies infront of crystal stand. I then sprinted back and forth between that stand and the one to the left ensuring that the enemy never capped all 3. Hero's + henchies took care of the enemy quite effiecently. I did lend a healing hand on occasion but primarly wasn't needed.

I contempalted swapping A trap ranger with interrupts for my mesmer, but wasn't sure how effective they are at placing traps. I also contemplated swapping in an Earth Ele with AoE dmg + Wards. But I personally find my Power Block mesmer (loaded with interrupts and Empathy) to be quite effective and I use him for most missions.

steal their crystal... if you can steal their crystal, they can't attune. I haven't tested this in hard mode but it worked in normal. if they changed then I would advise killing the white mantle slowly. let them attune the left pedestal and immediately take it back. hold up there and kill them as they come out. traps work to cripple their runner. try a water ele with snares. also MM's help body block the pedestals. again haven't tried in HM yet...

I finally made this friggin mission..

the setup that we used here was:
2monks: 1woh moddiefied,zb prot,1mesmer(surger as crystal runner),ss,mm.razah(but dont really need razah here,dont need tanker here,take another proffesion)
we just stand in the mindle and fought the oncoming groups..the mesmer used cakes as speedboost here to only attune the left pedestal, once we kill all oncoming groups we started on the running groups that was attuning, once they was killed we killed demogague and gg

Tried with SS, MM, Trapper and Barrage Ranger and 2 Monks. We used the Rangers to block and had healing seed and even healing hands just to make them last.

We also tried some other methods but always got swamped by the masses of White Mantle.

W/Mo with cripslash/sig of stamina/running skills attunes crystals

Rest of party flanks demagouge (You can kill without aggroing any enemies by making wide right loop once in shrine area)

Rejoin war and help finish attune with snares and killing

Finally found a working strategy, also works with henchmen.

Use Razah and give him spirits if you want to do it with henchies. If you eat a birthday cupcake any class can do this.

You need to hold the final portal and attune the left and the right portal always right after the Mantle attuned it.

This way you can control how many groups of White Mantle attack your henchman group at the portal near the druids. The key is splitting the attack waves in small groups of 3-4.

Just wait till no more groups come and then go fight the Demagogue.
